Yeah, it's kind of bummer that we haven't had anything. At least we have the winter event to look forward to!

Yeah, today the real crunch of things finished. A fellowship app was safely delivered to New York according to FedEx, I presented in my Japanese class, and I started work on some pieces I'll be playing next week for my end-of-quarter cello jury. It's nice to be the normal kind of busy again. :)

Oh! I study Japanese too! Interesting.

Yeah, I can't even imagine being like. Bone-crushingly busy. I'm glad you're back to an even amount though.

I'm starting my fourth term in the spring, so not too far. But it's fun! I love it!

I'm in my third year now, and our teacher gave us a long lecture on Tuesday about basically how, even though we've all come a long way since first year, we're really only "mid-level intermediate" according to some official Foreign Languages Teaching or whatnot guidelines. :cry:

Yeah, I just got that lecture in my German class but it was more encouraging since we're accelerated first years, like "It's only been 3 months and you're all low intermediate level"

but god those guidelines are soul crushing :cry:

You're taking both German AND Japanese? Don't you get them confused?

All the time. Latin too. And I'm adding Spanish in the spring. Only my best friends can untangle the horrible snarl of multilingualism that is my everyday speech.

I major in Languages and Social Work nowadays!! It leads me toward some kind of humanitarian profession. Peace corp, etc.

Oh, that's totally awesome! I love languages, but I can only handle one foreign language at a time. I was pretty fluent in French at one point, but then I lived in Holland and started picking up Dutch, and now I'm learning Japanese, so whenever I try to speak either French or Dutch, it comes out as Japanese at first. :cry:

Anyway, I'm logging off for now, because I'm quite tired, but I'll be back on tomorrow!

I've been told that when you're speaking a foreign language, what you've learned most recently comes first - so it makes sense that the Japanese comes out first.

My Japanese final totally kicked my butt. I studied literally all weekend for it, and I still barely finished on time. Same with most of the rest of the class, except mister always-gets-a-perfect-score-I-memorized-my-presentation-completely guy. He finished fifteen minutes early. But everyone else was still working when she called time up. :(
