[[Bahah. Is okay my brain was stuck anyways. Unstuck now thanks to a spatula and some elbow grease! :D And was Inception good?]]
Camry struggled to get to his feet, to walk on his own and give her less to worry about, but he soon realized there was no chance of that. He let her drag him along, missing the signs that they were close to home as well.
"Y-You're an idiot," he said, then grinned. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said that. Come on, Haley, give me some more credit then that. If you didn't kill me, then this ain't going to." He coughed wincing slightly. "Ah, damn, that hurts."
He raised an eyebrow at her, an amused look crossing his pale face. "Me don't leave you? I thought that was all you wanted," he mused. Then he sighed and managed to lift one shaking hand, pushing his hair out of his face. Instead of letting it drop, he put in the extra effort to put it under her chin and make her look at him.
"Haley, don't you get it? No matter what happens from here, I'm stuck with you. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd be happy to come along for the ride," he said, then gave her a wink and his usual smirk. "That is, if you let me."
He let his hand drop and rested his head back against the leaves. He knew he had promised not to leave her, but he was getting tired. "You need to get that to stop bleeding," he said, closing his eye and focusing on breathing in a way that didn't hurt him. "It's a tad too close to my heart for comfort, but I think I'll survive." His smirk came back, and he even managed to chuckle a little. "Huh, and here we thought you were gonna be the one to cut my heart out." He knew he shouldn't have been making those passive-aggresive stabs at lightening the mood, but his brain was going on autopilot as he got weaker. Damn, girl, you better work fast if you want me sticking around. He didn't say it out loud, knowing that in her state it was the last thing she needed.
His mind began to wander, to what his father would do if he got news that his son died. Nah, that couldn't happen. Camry knew his father loved him, loved him more then anything, and that he was the one who hated Arden Blake. I used to adore him, he thought vaguely, taking another slow, deep breathe. He used to be my hero. What happened?
This war happened, you idiot.
No, I didn't start hating him till recently. Wait, do I really hate my own father?
It was a shock, now that he was thinking about it. Man, he must have come off as a real jerk. What happened, he demanded again, focusing his scrambled thoughts.
You lost those men. You didn't get your revenge, that's what happened.
Aah, Camry remembered now. It was back in the spring campaign. Camry had just been made a general, and was confident, maybe overconfident. Arden had tried again and again to reign his son in, curb his eagerness to fight, but the day the battle came Camry was biting at the bit. He sprung into battle, and he was great, didn't even get a single scratch.
Until he saw one of his men take a sword for him. That had broken something inside Camry, and even if it wasn't a physical wound, it had hurt him even to this day. Arden Blake had given the order to retreat, even though they could have finished them off there.
"Death is not our way when it is not necessary, Camry."
You hated him for taking away your chance to avenge your fallen men. He was trying to protect you, to protect your soul.
"Man, I screwed this up," he whispered, totally forgetting where he was and who he was with for the moment. He could suddenly understand how Haley must have felt, seeing someone go down for her like that. He opened one eye and looked at her with brand new eyes.
[[A little reflecting on Camry's part  ]]

[[T_T So sad! I think Camry needs a hug! lol]]
His touch was something she longed for and when it was finally given, Haley knew her heart skipped a beat. Was it love? She began to question what it was, but dismissed it as love. I cannot love. No one loves me. No one ever will. Her bright yellow eyes closed for a moment before she went to work on patching Camry up.
"Be silent. I must work now," she cooed lightly to him. Her fingers danced across his chest like little spiders, but they soon marched up toward his neck. Cutting off her make-shift bandage, Haley Crest reached for her hip pack. Within that little black pouch was a lot more than one could ever dream. Woman, as you might know, are magnificent at packing just about everything into a small purse-like object. Her searching hand bopped against a small tin container. Smiling, she tugged it out. It was going to sting (like hell), but it would help keep an infection out of the wound.
The thought of covering her hands with gloves never crossed her mind. If his blood was infected, she didn't care. He had to live, and to live, he would need her help.
Thanking her father mentally, Haley thought back to her junior and senior years of high school. She was to become a medic. It's what her father wanted. Well, her mother. So, while still in school, Haley signed up for a program that let her intern and shadow persons at a local hospital. Her mentor was actually in charge to soldiers, so this training she had was ideal for the situation Camry was currently in.
Closing her eyes and holding her shaky breath, Haley thought back to the patient that would be most beneficial to remember. The one she was thinking of was Lieutenant William Greggs. He was fighting valiantly on the field when out of nowhere a bullet came up from behind and pierced his Brachial Artery. It was a messy situation and blood was just erupting from him like there was no tomorrow. Coated in blood and with limited supplies (Haley's internship was on the battlefield), Haley watched intently as her mentor worked some true magic to save the man's life.
Eyes still shut, Haley knew it would be risky to do this with closed eyes, but she needed to keep the memory in her mind alive. Praying quickly, she went to work. It was hard at first, but once her finger dropped into the narrow cut on his neck, she knew it was time. Pressing down (which caused blood to squirt up), she did her best to stop the flow. At first it failed, but it did soon die down. From there, she felt for her sewing kit. But, before she did that, Haley dropped some clear liquid on his cut. She heard the foaming crackles from the cut and knew Camry must have been in serious pain. Wincing and forcing her teeth together, Haley had to look.
This is bad. Her eyes watered, but she refused to try. Stay strong. Thread the needle. Her tongue poked out and it hit something salty. Licking her lips again, she nearly vomited when he realized what she was foolishly licking - Camry's blood. Now pale as a ghost, she slowly placed a fine piece of planet fiber between the little silver loop on her needle. This stitching will have to be quick. Looking down at the cut, she slowly weaved the needle's sharp tip in and out of the cut. Drawing it together, she winced some. It was disgusting. Pulling it tight, she moved on to start another stitch.
When she was finally done (with the blood drying and now flaking off her), Haley sat back on her behind. Wiping a blood smear across her brows, she leaned down beside Camry's ears. "How do you feel?" Her voice was raspy and sore sounding. "I've done about all I can do. I hope it will suffice. For now." A tear dripped from her eye onto his cheek.
