Mine are aching so badly. My whole jaw feels like it's splitting in half.
Have you had yours pulled out yet? How did it feel?
If you don't know what wisdom teeth are they're the little monsters growing slowly in the back of your mouth. That in some cases have to get pulled out.

I got mine out a year ago on my best friends birthday.
I didnt get put under or anything.
Just numbed me up.
Put me on painkill.
I only bled a lot on the first day.
After that it was smooth sailing.
Well.. except.. I couldnt eat a lot of things..
Because certain things could get in the holes created from getting them removed..
and then it could get infected.. and that would be no bueno.
Anyway.. as for my appearance. I looked just fine. Normal.
Nobody would even have known. And they didnt.
I went to a friends youth sort of thing.. They didnt even know until my friend mentioned it.
They thought I was crazy for being there.
I replied that I was fine. And I was.(:
But Im probably crazy too.

Woah, from what I've heard it's extremely excruciating pain.
You sound really brave :]

I just had mine out a little over a month ago and they hurt so bad but the worst part was that I was supposed to be under but they didn't give me enough medicine so I was partially awake...the four inch needle in my arm was the worst of the pain at the time but when I got home I felt like I had been stabbed in the face...but I do have a low tolerance for pain so...

Was your face swollen?

Mine weren't as bad as I thought it was. To be honest, the thing I hated the most was the fact that I couldn't eat chinese food or anything solid for that matter. I was put to sleep when I got it done and the only thing that was terrifying was waking up and all I could see were the lights on the ceiling. I felt completely normal and started freaking out thinking that I was waking up in the middle of the surgery like some movie I saw.
I was surprised when the nurse just let me get out of bed and walk out to see my parents. It seemed like such a bigger deal to me.

That sounds really scary Roxxi,I've seen movies like that make me stay away from the dentists.
It's just plain scary to be honest. I hate the thought of drugging my body or taking out blood..it makes me cringe.
I should record myself when they're taking out the wisdom teeth and post it on this thread.

I recently had a wisdom tooth removed... Mine came in really late. I had a few relatives and a few friends who'd tell me their horror stories... I came in the doctor's office with the impression that the worst was going to happen. For one, my appointment had been delayed for two months because my dentist had hurt his wrist. By that point, I was ready to start mainlining percoset. My tooth was growing at an angle and was cutting into my cheek. I could barely open my mouth without feeling as if someone just roundhouse kicked me. But by that time, my tooth was so grown out that I was barely in there for thirty minutes (after he gave me the painkiller). My tooth just popped out. No pain, no mess... Hell, I didn't even have to keep the cotton in the hole for long. Hey, at least you might get an interesting story out of all the mess. All I have to say is that I was too animated when he pulled it out... I kept on saying, "Really? Are you serious? Really?! ...Oh my god!" .///.;

I thought I'd escaped the trouble of wisdom teeth, but one started come through when I was 30 >_> I used to hurt a lot every 6 months or so, as it tried to birth itself a bit more. but after a while it stopped coming up and started tilting/sinking forward instead. That didn't hurt, but it did move my teeth on that side, the back molar is twisted a bit now, and my canine on that side overlaps the incisor next to it more than it used to, but I don't think it's going to do any more now.
I think I might have one on the other side too though, every now and again the gum at the back there gets tender and I wonder if another one's going to start erupting :( Hope not! But there's plenty of room back there anyway so even if it does I suppose it's no big deal really.
My sister doesn't have any wisdom teeth at all. She had her jaw x-rayed for some reason when she was younger and they told her then that she didn't have any wisdom teeth, lucky cow!

I'm getting my bottom ones in now, they're so sore... the tooth is just breaking through the skin, so I can feel the top of it, but my back gums are super sore and bleed if I brush them too much. I can't eat anything crunchy because the back of my gums will ache. But I'm not getting any of mine out, they're coming in fine, so I just have to deal until they're all up ;__;
It's not like I have a low tolerance for pain, it's just I forget about it until I bite into something and it hurts D;

I got nitrous when I had mine removed and the process was funny- I was laughing at the dentist and the assistants! Go with that if you can and breathe deeply to get more! :)
Afterwards, it wasn't so bad with the painkillers. Very much worth it overall. A few days of pain or pain for months?
And kinda weird- I only had three wisdom teeth.

Hahahaha I already posted here but.. Uhm..
I had 4 wisdom teeth.. All still in the gums.. So.. The dentist had to dig..
Sooooo yeah ahahaha.. Yeah I was a weirdo.. Nobody I know has reacted the way I have except my sister.
Yeah you cant eat solid things.. you cant eat small things like rice either cause it could get in your holes..
get infected.. not cool. :P
The only pain I felt was when he had to stick the needle into my mouth to numb me some more.
Ahah it was funny actually.. The dentist was like.."Im sorryyy.. I have to hurt you to not hurt you.."

I can feel the tops of all of my wisdom teeth. They were bothering me a bit last week but they feel just fine now. They seem to be growing in just fine, rather straight and they havn't moved any of my other teeth just yet. I'm going to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned tomorrow, hopefully he won't say I should get them out. o.o

i chewed a lot of gum when my wisdom teeth were coming in. it helped me out a lot. my preferred gum was either big red or spearmint. that and try to also brush your teeth especially back there. that also seemed to help me out. if you want them out then go to the dentist and see if how they are growing. if they are coming in straight up then don't worry about it but if they are coming in sideways or coming in and going back down you need to have them taken out.

I've never experienced the pain from wisdom teeth growing out... I had all four of mine surgically removed before they were even a problem. XD I was getting braces then so I needed that extra space. My gums were anesthetized so the procedure wasn't that bad. No excruciating pain, only a tolerable amount when the drill hit some nerves. x Ax No significant pain the next few days either, but I did look like a chipmunk.
If anyone's getting theirs pulled out (all four), split it into two sessions a few weeks apart (two teeth on the right side one week, then the other two on the left at the next appointment) so you can still chew on one side. ^ w^

I only have three wisdom teeth. My dentist told me that I would have to get them cut out a couple of years ago because they "would grow in impacted". Never did. And when they started coming in, I had pain from the pushing through the gum. And mine don't just keep on pushing through, my one wisdom tooth is still partially covered by my gums and it was the first one to start growing in. :/ Which I think is totally weird. But my dentist hasn't said anything more about it, so apparently, since they didn't come in impacted, they're fine. Although, it's weird mine have come in this early because everyone else in my family never got them until later in life.
My mom got a tooth pulled the other week, not a wisdom tooth though. But she bled for a few days, the area was swollen and bruised. :/ She was in major pain and had two shots of novocaine to numb the feeling. But that was also someone she never had been to before or have ever heard of. She got her wisdom taken out when she was around 30 and never felt a thing and was in pretty good shape (which is what she told me). So, what it basically boils down to is the person doing the job and your pain tolerance.

Just went to the dentist for a cleaning yesterday. I mentioned the pain in my wisdom and they took an x-ray. Apparently one of them is growing in sideways and pushing against my other molars. I'm going to have to get them removed. o.o

Mine were pulled, well... two were pulled and two had to be cut out. I was drugged up and unconcious for it though so I was good as I could hope to be. It was a little annoying after, I kept wanting to poke at it >.< But that's NOT a good thing to do so I resisted the urge.

for the past 3 years my wisdom teeth do this little push for about a month, which involves excruciating pain and soreness. Then all of a sudden they'll stop hurting for about 4 months. Long enough for me to forget about them, then bang! pain. Although with all of this, I've felt them push through once a tiny bit, but then they rectracted. *eyeroll*
If I feel around I can feel the shape of the buttom set against my gums, but I've never had pain from the top set

Sadly yes I've gone through the horror of having mine pulled, all four at once. It's nice to not have the painful annoyance of them surfacing over and over and then pulling the disappearance act when you want it least. But I won't lie to my the process of getting rid of them hurt a lot. My family drug me to a recommended dental clinic who swore up and down I would be completely and totally under for the whole process so I wouldn't feel a thing, which was exactly what I wanted. But when we got there on the day my surgery was scheduled I was informed that it was just local anesthesia and I would be slightly aware, that really got me worked up and more scared but I thought I'd still be fine. Things went pretty well when I was being put down, but I guess the stuff wore off before they were done and I was aware of them pulling the last tooth and sewing my gums. That hurt a lot, all I could do was lay there crying and let them finish.

Interesting how completely different each person's experience is. I mean, really, no two stories alike!
So here's mine:
I knew beforehand that I had to have my wisdom teeth removed as I'd gone to the dentist for a checkup and 'lo and behold, my wisdom teeth were coming in crooked! I didn't have a lot of excruciating pain like most folk said right up until the two bottom ones erupted - that is, they broke throught the gumline - which gave me an odd, sharp sensation in the back, but nothing intolerable. I never took any pain medication for it right up until I opted to get all four taken out at the same time (Note: No, my top ones weren't bugging me, but I wanted them out anyway since they would likely crowd out my teeth later - and if I get four out at the same time, I go to sleep for it! I'm not a fan of Novocaine. Needles aren't all that impossible to deal with, but the burn of local anesthetic doesn't really mesh all that well for me.). I made an appointment, was put to sleep via IV anesthetic and woke up a while later with my mouth packed in cotton gauze. The whole world was really fuzzy. I knew where I was, but I didn't know what time it was, bright light bugged me, and all I wanted to do was nap off the grogginess. In any case, my parents drove me home (as I was living with them at the time), at which point I completely fell asleep surrounding my face in ice and they went to the pharmacy to pick up the antibiotic and pain medication.
I woke up a few hours later and my mouth still felt numb. My dentist does a double-numbing thing: both IV and local, but thankfully, he waited until I was asleep to numb out my mouth. I got up, less groggy, but still so, walked to the bathroom, pulled the gauze out of my mouth and -splash- Nice lovely load of blood in the sink. Interesting. Took my pain medication, antibiotic, stuffed my face with gauze again and went to sleep. That was essentially my routine for about 3 - 4 days.
Mind you, my planned surgery was on my winter break, so I had no issues with class or anything. You might want to plan ahead as well and schedule it with some time until you know how much you have to take out, whether or not you'll be put to sleep (you can discuss with your dentist), and so on and so forth. I was lucky - all four taken out and no swelling, no bruising, no infection, and only mild discomfort (I stopped taking pain medication after the third day and was fine without it).
I was on an ice cream, pudding, Nutrament diet for a few days, then I dared eat oatmeal after a week and soft breads and so on and so forth. By the time I went back to the dentist to have my stitches removed, there weren't any stitches!
All in all, a pleasant experience considering what it was. I hope yours works out well. :)
