It was another beautiful day and the circus under way, which meant Cordelia was in her favorite place, her tank. The tank was full of large fake plants and rocks you would find in a coral reef. Even had seaweed with pebbles and shells across the bottom. The best part were her friends the fishes. Their were all kinds of them, even a starfish and a few crabs. She made sure to take care of all of them, feed them right and gave them all their needs. Was the only rule she needed to follow to keep them around. An easy one at that, to her it made the sight of her more impacting seeing as it was a representation of her home. Where else would you find a mermaid other then in the ocean. Cordelia sure wanted to sea the ocean and swim in it massive vastness.

However she had work to do and money to make. As the show progressed and Cordelia gained more of an audience she smiled as she swam around loving how the water made all her hair feel light as air. A sensation she never wanted to give up, it was so heavy when she was dry and on land. Gravity sucked. Cordelia though loved to please the crowd so with her swimming, she was using it to pick up moment. When she got enough speed she practically threw herself out of the top of her fishbowl, did a little flip, with her tail and hair making an almost perfect circle, before straightening out and plummeting into the cool water again. Absolutely pleased with herself that she made barely a slash, she started to sing out of joy. A very happy little mermaid she was.

Heavy footsteps slammed opened the make shift wooden door. "klaus? Get up you lazy bum." The tall man left the door open, letting the cold breeze and the sound of chatting visitors wash into the tent. Klaus sat up, his face grim. He hated morning, let alone working. He stood, quickly getting dressed in the nearest clothing. He stalked out of the tent only to find the lines were extra long today.

His chores would be even bothersome to do with extra people watching him in awe, or woman giggling and trying to flirt with him. Oh no...That was the worst. Especially when they were already married. He had once lived in a lovely home with anything he wanted but that was all taken away after his father died. Now he lived with a bunch of freaks and slept in a giant tent.

This was his first day working for his uncle. He had already been told everything to do and when to do it. At the moment all he wanted to was to sleep in and stay out of the chilly Autumn air. He sulked around a bit until he entered the tent which the mermaid and the strange sea creatures were kept. His eyes traveled, watching her jump up. He had not met any of the freaks besides the ticket seller and a few of the mimes. He stood there, trying to figure out just how she stayed underwater so long without having to breath. His uncle sure was good at fooling people, he was starting to believe she was real.

When her performance/showing was done and the crowd dispersed, she pulled herself out of the tank for her hour break. During the performance one person caught her eye, it was the owners nephew. She was told he was going to begin working today and he seemed on the, grumpy side. Oh, how she wouldn't allow that when he was in her tent, smiles were what she wanted. Cordelia slid down the side of the glass to land on a bunch of towels where she began to dry herself.

Now with a pair of legs Cordelia wiggled her toes with a small giggle. Wrapping a towel around her body she walked over to the new guy and held her hand out to him with a grin.
"Welcome to the circus. I'm Cordelia." she beamed happily, with great curiosity on how he would react seeing as she now had a pair of legs. Then man seemed skeptical if she was the real deal. Most did but that was apart of being a freak. Who would want to believe they were real? But her emerald hair that now cascaded around her body was the natural color of it. Something uncommon on its own. So she decided to help him instead of freak him out on his first day. "If you need anything ask. I'm willing to help, I have an hour long break before the next show. What did you think?" she asked still smiling like an innocent little child.

He ignored the hand. "Klaus. The show was interesting to say the least. He said, shrugging his broad shoulders. "I don't need help." He said, keeping his posture straight and tall. He glanced around in search of the tail but saw nothing that looked like it. He turned, moving out of the tent in search of his first job, cleaning up after the wild animals. Oh how that was going to be troublesome.

He glanced back at the girl in wonder. He had so many questions but was not willing to ask any. He moved towards the horse stalls and grabbed a broom. At least horses didn't talk. He had owned a horse a while back but was forced to sell it for a train ticket to the circus.

Even with the rather rude greeting that wasn't going to slow Cordelia, she was the wrong person to be grumpy around. She was now bent on getting him to smile or at least talk to her. First she needed to get some clothes, a towel just wasn't cutting it for her. With a very cool colored skirt and a top that just wrapped around her chest, with all kinds of jewelry. She ventured out fully dressed in shells, fabric and shiny things to find the man named Klaus again.

It didn't take her long to find him in the stales. Being as silent as possible she walked up behind him wondering if scaring him would at least get some kind of reach out of him.
"You know you are quite grumpy. If I was in your position I would love it here. With all its craziness and fun!" she stated with a giggle and smiled looking up at the back of his head. Being overly cheerful like usual, could never keep a straight face.

"No...I don't want craziness or fun. I want a stable house to live in. Not some tent." He mumbled, not at all startled by the young woman. He paused and looked up at the large black horse that had wondered up to him. He slowly reached out and let it sniff him. He stroked it's head and smiled. When noticed he had smiled he quickly washed it away with his normal frown.

He eyed the woman. "You sure do dress your part. So how is it done? Wires? Pipes? I have to say it's impressive." He crossed his arms, careful of not getting any fur into his mouth, which he learned was not fun to do. He still had not gotten all the bits of fur from his mouth.

It was a shocking discover to Cordelia when the grumpy man smiled. "So your face isn't in a permanent frown. I thought you had some spell that made you unable to smile...." she exclaimed excitedly dancing around letting everything she thought just pour out of her mouth. A habit she had, couldn't really keep anything to herself. Never meant any harm but most of it was positive. Everyone loved her anyways, she was like a little ball of sunshine. Always happy no matter the situation.

She looked up at the man surprised he was asking her a question and grinned mischievously.
"Not everything you see is fake or an illusion." she kept it vague wanting to hear him talk more or at least ask questions. Even as she slipped past him to pet the horse giggling as it nipped at her hair.

"yeah I'm not surprised someone from a circus to say that." He went back to his work, ignoring her. His mind started to flout away to somewhere else. All he wanted to move back home, rid his horse and live the way he wanted, not doing chores the rest of his life.

Through he was surprised about the outcome of the circus. So many people had come that the lot was full. He spotted his uncle waving his hands and poking his cane towards one of the tents. He was yelling about something ut everything felt like a blur.

"I'm not surprised someone from a stable home would say that... Goes to show how little you know about the outside world, Mr. Grumpy Pants." Cordelia was offended by his statement and the fact he was ignoring her. With the opportunity she made disgusted faces at him before she noticed a canteen of water hanging from a nail in a board. The young man would regret ignoring her.

Cordelia took off the top to the canteen, tipped it back till she had enough water in her mouth, to squirt him in the back of the head. A perfect shot at that too, she had great practice at doing it.
"If you are going to stay her you better get use to it. Not all of us were lucky enough to live in a stable home. This is the only family we have." she said pretty much talking about herself. Though she looked at him before shaking her head in disgust and left to go get more people to check out all the circus acts. When Cordelia was upset she showed it and held a pretty nasty grudge.

Klaus shook his head like a wet dog, water dripped down his face. He growled something under his breath. He watched her leave. "Dang freaks." He mumbled and let the broom drop to the ground. He walked over to the horse and grinned. "I bet you aren't ridden much. Why don't we do that now?" He moved over to the side of the horse and slowly climbed on. He gently kicked his heels at the horse's sides, making dart out of the stalls.

His uncle had gone inside one of the tents and was no where to be seen. He wasn't going to leave. His uncle was the only family he knew and sadly enough this circus was the place he could live without having to pay. He had always loved the feeling of riding a horse, the rush of the wind, the feeling of being free and one with nature. He loved it. The horse slowed down a bit and walked off to the back of the circus. He glared back at the large crowds of people.

Cordelia had gotten a nice crowd of people glad her appearance was so loud compared to their dull neutral toned clothing. Probably helps she was loud herself grinning and laughing as she got their attention. The little mermaid even held her other carny friends in setting up for their acts while waiting for when she needed to get ready for her own. Luckily her stage set never needed to be built up or taken down. But she needed to get back and in the water, couldn't let the crowd she her change. Would ruin the guessing of if she was real or not.

With a sigh she ran across the circus grounds to her tent as she saw the crowd starting to surround the entrance. In side she quickly grabbed her ladder and climbed up to the rim of the bowl. Kicking the ladder away, off the platform, Cordelia sat down on the rim. She took off her skirt and top letting them drop down onto the towels. This was her least favorite part. With a deep breath Cordelia leaned back into the freezing water. It didn't take long for her ears to change into fins, parts of her hair getting a gold shimmer to it, gills tore through her porcelain skin, and her legs morphed into a tail. Was never a very pleasant morphing.

Klaus brought the horse back and finished cleaning up the stalls. Now he had nothing to do until the circus closed down for the night. He made his way to the back of the line as the mermaid tent reopened. He kept his glancing at her in wonder. He saw no strings or pipes, not even wires. It was the greatest thrill watching her move so gracefully.

He ducked inside the tent and stood in the very back, watching her. He reminded himself to make sure to check out the fishbowl after the tent was shut down for the night. He crossed his arms over his chest, watching the the people flood into the tent, gasping like fish.

Cordelia's performance now was much more energized as she swam around and continued to fly out of the fishbowl doing all kinds of aerial tricks. The smile on her face staying she even sang in her haunting voice, that was smooth as stiff water or as hectic as waves crashing into the shore. It was apart of her to love singing and pretty things that made up her wardrobe. It was as if she was just playing in the water as she danced around and swam around the edge till her show was done for the night.

With a giggle she pulled herself up to the rim of her bowl and smiled at her audience before chiming happily.
"Thank you for coming to the circus and seeing my performance. If you liked it there is a donation box right by the exit. I would be overjoyed if you helped keep me performing. Good night everyone!" She waved to the people as the slowly left her tent. Only this time Cordelia stayed in the water floating at the top. If she got out she would have to wait till tomorrow to enter it again.

Klaus stayed back in the shadows. Her voice had made him zone out. He snapped out of it and walked forward. "If your done now...I need to clean up. So...out you go." He said, tapping his fingers against the glass. He stared at her. Even her hair color seemed so real. one thing was for sure, his uncle did a great job of hiring the right people.

He leaned his back against the bowl, waiting. He wanted to see if she truly was just wearing a costume or if this was the real thing. "Klaus?" His uncle yelled outside. He guessed it was closing time, which meant it was time for diner then a quick clean up.

Cordelia was startled by the tapping on her glass, it rang through her ears in an unpleasing pitch. "Hey, don't do that..." she whined before swimming to the edge he was against. She didn't want to get out yet it was too nice. "I don't want too." she complained before for getting her mischievous smile back. With a snap of her tail she sent a splash of water down upon the young man. The quickly escaped the fishbowl sliding down the edge.

"You better go, your Uncle is calling you and I would prefer not having an audience while I change, perv." Cordelia snickered. She didn't want to give away that she really was a mermaid just yet. Part of her feared that the man wouldn't speak to her again. He seemed to dislike freaks and the carnies all together. Either way she was going to have to watch herself around him. All the other knew not to let water touch her skin, she feared he would want revenge for the things she did.

He groaned loudly. "Second time you've done that..." He muttered, shaking his head. He snorted. "I am not watching you change. I'm waiting for you to leave, so I can clean. I'm not hungry there for I have no reason to listen to my uncle at the moment." He said.

"Do you take care of the fish, or should I?" He asked, changing the subject. He glanced at one of the fish. He had always like animals and fish. They were interesting to watch and fun to take care of. He hadn't really noticed the fish until he got closer. He pointed at the tank. "Is that a starfish?"

"And not the last..." Cordelia said with a chuckle. Seemed splashing him with water actually got a reaction out of him. Good or bad? She had no idea but it was fun and now that he wasn't going to leave she changed rather quickly. Feeling slightly awkward, no one was ever around when she did. They at least knew better.

Walking off the platform she landed next to him and ended up sitting down on the edge of it.
"I take care of the fish, I don't trust anyone else with them. So I don't know why you have to clean... and yes that is a starfish, one of three." Cordelia smiled glad he seemed interested in her tank. She still acted nonchalant about the things in the tank even though she was bubbling over with joy and it shown on her face.

He bent down. "Three? What else is in there?" He asked, craning his neck around to look at the fish. He felt like a child again. He stood quickly and wiped off his pants. "Alright. Then I trust you'll clean up in here too?" He asked, trying to forget the fact he now felt like a child, gawking at fish.

He stood up. His uncle, Tomas yanked opened the tent. "Come on Klaus, you need to clean up." Klaus grumbled something that sounded like a string of cuss words. He left the tent and headed towards the yard to pick up trash. "Hey Klaus. You liking it here so far?" The ticket vendor, climbing out of the ticket booth. "Oh yeah I love being told to clean up after everyone have no time to breath." He said and grabbed a broom.

"Angelfish, Butterflyfish, ..." Cordelia rambled on grinning at how he was practically gawking at her fish in a childish manner. Made him seem actually approachable. "I always do." she said looking at him slightly confused. She always cleaned up her space, never let anyone else do it because the factor of trust. When the young man left the tent Cordelia went to folding the towels and storing them in her chest. Then using her ladder she got to work feeding her friends trying to avoid touching the water seeing as she just dried off and was in her clothes.

Finished taking care of her place she pulled a tarp over her fish bowl and then left her tent to go converse with the other carnies while eating dinner. Then afterwords she would help with dishes and any clean up. Which made her thinking of grumpy Klaus. A small giggle escaped her as she went to find him and offer her assistance even though he would probably deny her.
"Grumpy! Want any help? It could go faster." she said smiling at him.

"I don't need help." He said. He picked up the pile of trash and dumped it into the trash can nearby. "Why don't you go get some food?" He said, putting the broom away. He sulked over to the smallest tent where diner was being served. "What else do I need to do...Wash dishes. Lock up all the animals. Oh...right and breath! He thought, sitting down at the only table that was empty.

He had a glass of water in front of him, his fingers tracing the top of the glass. His eyes glazed over. He had a short break and already he just wanted to go to sleep. It was starting to get dark and a fire had been made in the center of the circus. Some sat by it, roasting hot dogs.
