Inbreeding is part of how they get the special traits. It's part of why you should never try to get pets like bull dogs. They have so many birth defects they are in horrible shape.

Yeah, or those floppy-eared, flat-faced cats...heard they have a lot of health issues and don't live as long as mixed, healthier breeds.
I try to make sure my mice gets a nice mix of genes though sometimes I lose track of which batch is paired with which batch. @[email protected];

We don't even know what breed our cat is but we know she's very healthy. This girl though I swear she wants chocolate CONSTANTLY. I recently caught her trying to "test how much chocolate she can eat without getting sick". Sneaky girl is too smart for her own good sometimes.
Could try using labels maybe?

OMG Poet your cat X'D. She's a little fuzzy troll .
I'm not denying that purebreeds are cute, but yeah--not as healthy. It's why I'm glad my two girls are rescues; one is that they're rescues and won't have unhappy lives, the second is because they were born to a mama outside, I'm 99% certain they're definitly mutts. Cute, furry, purring mutts who like sleeping on my bed X'D

Really? I guess being human has its merits, like immunity to chocolate.

Herro Kirin!
@ Anta: Yeah, chocolate is no good for kittes. Same with onions, garlic, grapes...there's a list of stuff that you reeeeally shouldn't let your cats eat because it'll poison them. The others I didn't know about, but chocolate I did XP
It's not as bad for them as it is for dogs, but still; Chocolate and cats do not mix.

Wow. Now that I think about it, humans seem to be strangely immune to a lot of things that are poisonous for other mammals.

It's about quantity. Eat too much of most things and they can eventually kill you.
We are fortunate she only ever gets a lick. She's digging in dangerous territory trying to enjoy that stuff.

I wonder if it's kind of like drugs to her...okay in small amounts but not so good in larger quantities.

Possiby?
Oh, another thing that humans eat for funsies that're usually way bad for other animals (and apparently fungi!): ultra-spicy hot peppers. Most other animals don't like stuff with a crapton of capsacin in it, yet we humans will down Carolina Reapers and Ghost peppers like they're candy.
Well...some of us will. I personaly have no desire to set my mouth aflame, thank you very much ^^

lmao So true, and to think that those plants made themselves so spicy in order to avoid getting eaten, yet some humans breed them for the sole purpose of eating them.
I think coffee is another one of those things that humans love but are toxic to many other animals?

Coffee can kill a human in higher doses.
I think it's a flavor thing. As lactose intolerant people do a similar thing.

Yeah, true. I can't drink a lot of coffee before my heart rate goes up and I feel uncomfortable in my chest area. Any more would probably give me a heart attack. >.>;;

Yeah and too much chocolate can cause nausea in a human.
Really the only reason half the stuff we east isn't toxic is our size.

And am I the only one who finds the fact that the only reason we're immune to a ton of toxic stuff is size? X'D

Not all of it but some of it. Some things are broken down into seriously toxic stuff as well. Depending how it's processed.
Like isopropyl alcohol. Harmless, but if you drink it then it will kill you.
Too much chocolate will make me sick personally

I usually stop eating chocolate after a few pieces because I get tired of the taste and want to be able to continue to savor it after a break. XD;

Yeah, same X'D. Though one of my new favorite things is chocolate covered sunflower seeds.
They're like M&Ms, if there was a sunflower seed variant of them. But with higher quality chocolate and much thinner candy coating. They're sooo good
