So who has played any game in this series? This long running saga of vampire hunters has been running for quite some time... all the way from the original Castlevania when Simon Belmont, the first vampire hunter to make it on the scene of the Nintendo to go to Dracula's castle and slay him all the way to the new Castlevania- Lords of Shadow of a new vampire hunter named Gabriel who sounds like a Scotsman. I personally have played the first, second, third, forth(Super Castlevania) Symphony of the Night, Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. I really enjoyed all of the my favorite was Castlevania Three Dracula's curse where you could enlist the help of Grant Danasty- a pirate who's family was murdered by Dracula and want's revenge for being put under control. Sypha Belnades, a witch who hunts vampires but you don't know she's a woman until the end of the game. In the booklet you read about him and not her. I guess they were trying to keep that a surprise, and then of course the first appearance of Dracula's son Alucard who later goes through a huge cosmetic appearance dying his hair from black to silver gray and lets his hair grow out, and takes the spot light in his own series Symphony of the Night which was one of the best in the series in my opinion. The third was great too, I hope they remake that one. Lord of Shadows was actually going to be a 3D remake of the very first Castlevania but they decided to go with something original instead. I haven't played it yet, but it looks good. I would also have to lastly say that I loved the music so much-- it was definitely memorable. My favorite tunes were Bloody Tears which originally came from the Second installment of the series-- Simon's Quest...long and hard to figure out and just tedious-- not the best game by any means in the series-- but redone with actual bosses-- would rock. The music was awesome in that one too.
Anyways what was your favorite part of the series and what did you like about it?
I wasn't really a fan until they moved from platforming to the Metroid-exploration style in Symphony of the Night. I really liked Dawn of Sorrow on the DS, and Portrait of Ruin was still good but too linear and level-ish. I am currently playing Order of Ecclesia on the DS. I haven't gotten that far yet but it seems like a mixture of Dawn of Sorrow's soul system and exploration but still retaining a bit of the linearity of Portrait of Ruin since the game world is split into several different locations.
I remember renting Castlevania 64 many years ago...the first boss was a giant skeleton riding a motorcycle, it was awesome. Shame the camera was really bad, you were guaranteed to die every 30 minutes or so due to having to make a jump with a terrible view of the platforms. It did have nice music though.
I wish they'd go back to the Belmont clan for main characters, they did have Johnathon Morris in Portrait of Ruin using the Vampire Killer (somehow) but there hasn't been a Castlevania starring a Belmont since they went Metroidvania, and I miss the whipping.
Symphony of the Night was definitely a game that got so much notoriety. I had a copy of it until by apartment I was living in was broken into. I had my Play Station Two, Sega Dreamcast, and Nintendo Gamecube along with a few games, movies, clothes, medieval weapons I had been collecting stolen by some crackheads. I remember really enjoying this game. It's really sad, that game is so hard to find and when you do find it, you're going to pay a lot of money for someone to let go of a copy of it. I only played Lament of Innocense and Curse of Darkness on the Playstation Two. Lament of Innocense is hard to get through. I really liked curse of Darkness, just because of the fact you could level up, whereas you had to find items to get more hit points and get stronger. You can also play as Trevor Belmont in Curse of Darkness if you put in a code, and it is much more difficult. I haven't played the other castlevania games for the Nintendo DS though.
I have watched the video you posted before, Angry Nintendo Nerd is hillarious. There is a video about Ghost and Goblins which somebody else posted and it too is extremely hillarious. I wished they had done Simon's Quest much different. I think it could have been a great classic... like the first and third installment in the original series.
I have played all of the Castlevania series and they are really good classic games. I would say part III is my favorite of all. I kind of would like to see them remake Castlevania III which is awesome although Castlevania Lords of Shadow was supposed to be the first Castlevania game remade, buit they took it in a different direction. I will get castlevania lords of shadow it looks really great.
I'm still trying to play Rondo of Blood (Stage mode) but I keep dying. I wanna play SOTN already damnit! I've had this game for two years and like it was last month that I finally got past Stage 3 or 4....can't remember anymore but in Rondo of Blood it started in a red castle and had suits of armor attacking me with long spears.

Someone please tell me why SOTN is tha shiznit? I'm so jealous! I wanna play but I keep dying!
Well, it was one for one thing that you could actually level up and gain experience from fighting monsters. All the different items and secret chambers you could explore was part of the reason. The story line of course-- Well the game play was just classic so other than that I really can't tell you. It's a genre to itself really.
