Do you have a favorite type of animation style for movies/TV shows/shorts?

I've seen a lot of different kinds in my life, and I've found I love them all. I am a little upset that computer animation is over-shadowing 2D animation these days, however. I really hope it doesn't fade "out of style" and become forgotten just because it's slightly easier to make than 2D is. But I am also always impressed with what 3D can do. I'm really excited about the new movie coming out, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, it looks so amazing! :eager:

So what do you guys like? :D

Puppetry like Tim Burton?
Clay-mation like Wallace and Grommit?
3D like How to Train Your Dragon?
2D like Disney or Anime?

Express your opinions!

...By the way, how do you like my homemade signature? >w<

I think they're all extremely fascination. I kind of envy people who do claymation, because I can't sculpt anything to save my life. And the things possible with computer animation are just absolutely phenomenal, though I don't believe we've quite reached its full potential yet. But I think I'll always have a nice warm love for 2D animation. It's familiar to me, since that's all there was when I was a kid, and it never really seems to fall out of style. It's like a PB&J sandwich. :D

And I don't think you'll be seeing 2D fade away anytime soon. I'm actually at an art school to study animation, and from what I hear of people's specializations...I'd almost think there's going to be some sort of revival... ;D

It depends on how well the animation is done rather than the style. They all have their good and bad points. I love the look and feel of old fashioned 2D animation though. There is nothing worse than bad computer animation.

Tim Burton is king, but not because of the claymation. It is because he brings a naturally dark and twisted look to everything that he makes. His style is uniquely his and is immediately recognized as made by him. Alice in Wonderland was not animated, but it still had that twisted Tim Burton feel to it.

Actually, Alice and Wonderland was very animated. They mixed Real Life with Computer Animation to make all the effects, the creatures, the world, and little bits to the people like the Red Queen's big head. ;D

Though there is really good CGI animation movies, I have this feeling it's becoming a little bit overrated. It seems people think the movies will do well just because they're CGI (and now adding 3D effect) movies. Then we get to see a lot of bad CGI movies as well as good ones. It annoys me a little, wich makes me be a little more inclined to like 2D movies, who are going "against" the trend. And I was always kinda indifferent to clay-mation.
But of course I think it's not only the style that makes a good movie. It's how your work with it.
And in my opinion you'll never have a really good movie if the story is crappy, not matter how pretty it looks.

I absolutely agree. CGI and 3D has become an expectation now. It doesn't "wow" people anymore. It just makes them feel ripped off when it's not included. Nobody cares about the story, acting talent, or anything else that goes into a movie (which is a TON o.o ). So they willingly accept complete garbage from the filmmakers and producers in exchange for something that they only think they care about.

Personally, I think we should just take everything away from people for a while. Maybe then they won't be zombies anymore.

That would be a hilarious thing to see. xD "Hi, we won't have CGI and 3D movies anymore! Please cope with all those lame effects we'll have avaiable now and care a little more about the story!"

People would go nuts. :P

I personally feel a little ripped when I go watch a movie and it's absolutely stunning to see but the story is crappy. I felt like this with Avatar. It was so beautiful, but the story was basically Pocahontas with ETs replacing the indians.

LOL That's why I want it to happen. I'd personally love for my area to get hit with a storm that wiped out electricity entirely. People would freak. They'd forget how to drive, cook anything without their fancy electric stovetops, and I wouldn't be surprised if a large number had no idea how to work a lighter. It be chaos and I would find it absolutely amusing while I sat inside taking care of myself just fine. ;)

And that's why I waited until Avatar was out on DVD to watch (or at least part of the reason--second reason being that my friends went without me). I did like the movie, but it was mostly because it was a very pretty movie. The story was something we've all seen before, though. I want an epic, thrilling and twisting story that's so amazing I'll forget I'm watching a screen.

I don't really have a favorite form of animation. It's it's done with skill, to a great story, then I'm pretty much up for anything.

I, myself, am going to school for computer animation, so I've been more apt to study CG movies than most others. They are all a treat though, and I particularly love going to the theater to see an animated movie. I just wish America would see that animation isn't just a technique for making kid's movies. I would love to see some serious CG movies. That would be amazing.

I grew up watching 2D Disney movies and they will always had a fond place in my heart. But 3D movies and video games cool to watch too. some of the things they are coming out with now are just so cool. In fact I am trying to become and animator just so i can work on 3D Video Games. Itshard for me to pic the type of animation i like the most. It a toss up between 2 and 3D.

I really like 2d animation, i'm just more of a fan or cartoons. I also really like clay-mation even though its not used as much

I like the look of 3d but I think its kinda over-used but maybe thats because I miss 2d animation.

I don't mind computer animation, but I hate how lazy people can be about it.. Not animating in shadows, making all the characters bugeyed.. (Open Season, I'm looking at you) and other terrible things. But drawn animation had it's lazy movies too.

I know 3D can be used for awesomeness, like Owls of Gahoole and How to Train your Dragon, but everyone knows the main reason it gets used is to add extra money to ticket prices. The 3D for alice in wonderland was terrible in my opinion.. Giant blurry hedges! Gah!

Anyway, I love stop-motion/claymation animation with a passion. Jan Svenkmajer is sort of the Walt Disney of claymation, (if walt disney was a very dark morbid fellow) and worth a looksee for some awesome animation.
