My family and the vast majority of sportsmen in the state.
I still have no way of fathoming how someone can think animals should have the same rights as people.

They're fun, sure, but I'm not ready to start delegating rights. I happen to enjoy that my home is rodent free, and that I can purchase the right materials if there are. I'm perfectly fine with owning pets and respecting nature without any kind of PETA or paint throwing.

No, I wasn't referring to the rights bit, I meant the not "doting" on animals bit.

I'm not sure we should give them full legal rights, but I do agree they shouldn't be abused. Also, I don't agree that animals are tools, at least not always. Farm animals are, but most animlas are kept as pets/companions. I think they should be treated with respect but I think it's weird when people treat their dog like a little person. They're just not.

My two cents? We are all part of the animal kingdom, and should treat each other accordingly. Of course things like the food chain comes into it, we are predatory beasts and such. But we also have the ability of empathy, to understand the pain we might be inflicting on others. We shouldn't take that lightly, we should acknowledge it, embrace it, not ignore it for our purposes. Still, I don't think humans are "special" or "unique", just remarkable in their successes.

I might be able to sympathize with a cow, but it doesn't change my habits.

Ooh, Biggles, I just found this and had to share. Seems like something you'd like as well.
B H L D N
It's mostly bridal stuff, and quite expensive, but just so gorgeous to look at. There's a lovely aesthetic about the site (referring mostly to the "Collections," haven't looked at the full stock yet), I feel quite inspired for how to decorate... well, everything. Also, I'm now coveting $100 jewelry. That's new.

Ah, that is indeed some very neat stuff. Excellent presentation. And for wedding stuff, not too horrifically priced.

I found dozens of sites on stumbleupon that had things just like that. Except, they were crafting sites and you can make and organize everything and it shows you how to do it.

Yeah, a lot of the stuff there looked like it could be reproduced at a much lower price. Fantastic source of inspiration, though. :)

I know you are out there
Time for me to pontificate.
We have such an amazing resource! Seattle International Film Festival is the largest in the United States, and with such variety that you are spoilt for choice/bound to find something to your liking.
And lucky for you, it's on now!
http://www.siff.net
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of seeing Submarine, which was truly delightful. It's showing again at the Neptune tomorrow at 11 am. Writer/Director Richard Ayoade was at the first screening, and the vagueness of the Submarine page on SIFF.net leads me to believe he will be at the second screening as well.
But let me push this for a second: The Importance of Being Earnest (Presented by Roundabout Theatre Company, L.A. Theatre Works, and BY Experience) | 2011 Seattle International Film Festival | Brian Bedford | USA < Films
If you have been in here before (or in Howse of Hoff, which I also spammed.) You may have seen the AMAZING Jersey Shore gone Wilde videos. Well, it's the same magnificent cast. I intend to see it myself, once I sort out which showing would be best. Oscie fangirls, represent.

YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION DESPITE MY NON-SEATTLITENESS.
I'm kind of jealous of the places that get awesome indie movie festivals and what-not. So many great movies fly completely under the radar and it makes me sad that I may never find them. :(

It's long made me sad that I'll never be able to know about all the things that would interest me in the world.
You can maybe take a look at the selections and mentally note the ones that pique your interest for a later netflix availability, maybe?

Yeah, I'm planning on relocating to the West Coast (Oregon, bitches :talk2hand: ) ASAP in the not-so-distant future... I agree that the indie scene is pretty awesomeful over there, specifically in the Oregon/Washington area. :o I want, I want!
Anyway. Ahem. Yeah. As an Oscar Wilde fanatic, and moreover a lover of The Importance of Being Earnest in specific, I wish I could go. :gonk:
That play has always been something I've wanted to see. Bad.

Biggles - Yes, that sounds like a good plan...
Not a film festival movie, but have you seen The Science of Sleep?
Facade - I've considered Oregon before. But unfortunately it looks like I have Virginia or D.C. in my future.

Oregon is pretty nice. It seems to have a little sister complex that surfaces every once in a while. And hipsters. But yeah, nice.

:gonk: Yeah, hipsters smell. But hey! They're everywhere these days, so it's not that big of a surprise. :ninja:
If I'm on the East Coast still when you relocate to VA/D.C., Cherry, we should meet up. :o I'm four hours from the heart of VA, but still. Not too bad! ... Conversely I'm ~2 1/2 hours from D.C., so yeah.

The area I'd be moving to initially would likely be closer to the Tennessee border, so it'd probably still be a looong ways from you.

It's impossible to be specific at the moment because it relies on too many variables, so "within the next few years" is as close as I can get.

I'm not quite on the hipster band wagon, but I don't have a problem with them, and actually enjoy several bits of their "culture".
I saw some sort of quasi-poll lately that suggested that Washington only came in eighth in hipsters per capita. I was appalled by our lack of initiative.
ANA. SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL  GOGOGOGO.
