*Fancypants* For the culturally inclined and aspiring ~ In today's episode: Biggles reveals her potentially unsettling breadth of knowledge on talking mummies in literature
Some things hipsters like are cool. I think the general disdain comes from the fact that the penultimate hipster does not actually do or like anything they actually enjoy, but rather live with a very carefully crafted image of what everyone says should be cool. Also the smugness. And doing everything "ironically."
I dunno, Biggles. The second video down with the weirdo lady making crackling noises every time she touches something reminds me a bit too much of Saladfingers.
...Whom I love. But man. Seeing him fondle his nipple in person with nettles just isn't my cup of tambourines, y'know?
My idea of fanciness is a tea party with Saladfingers, so I'm in your boat, Cherry.
But yeah, I dunno. Fancy stuff bores me; I was stuck in a friggin' suburban tearoom with my mom this past Thursday and it more or less pissed me off to bits.
Contrivance just ain't no friend of mine.
Now, see, I also hate dressing in formal wear, because men's formal wear is about as thrilling as anything else inherently heteronormative.
At any rate, I suppose it depends on your definition of 'fancy'. :ninja: I love hand-knit things, and would personally deem them 'fancier' than a $300 Vera Bradley bag. :P
I LOVE CUCUMBER SANDWICHES! Believe me, my problem wasn't with the sandwiches and the tea (I had a nice rooibos mojito...) - it's just how they doll up the tearooms and make it so much more pretentious and presumptive than it all really is. I just don't get the frills about things like that, y'know?
(I'm a huge tea enthusiast, so maybe I need to just find a tearoom that's more plain and dreary.)
We have such a nice, funky little tea shop on the island. Not tea roomy in the food selection (just a few baked goods to choose from and some miso soup), but it's pretty damn nice overall.
Facade - You kidding me? I wish I could wear a men's suit. Not a tux, but a suit. There are some damn nice men's suits.
Biggs - Undercurrent fancy! \o/ As implied previously, I'm working on a garden... but that currently includes a fair deal of labor and getting dirty, so not so fancy. But enjoying the outdoors and flowers is fancy, right? So... there goes that undercurrent, currenting under things!
The taking in of the outdoors is tremendously fancy. Trips to the seaside, the obsession with the pastoral in eras like the roccoco, the landscape painting tradition... it's all been spelled out in history.
I too love men's wear and tend to gravitate towards it. I mean, just look at that picture of me in the Howse, waistcoat and all.
I look silly in menswear, so all I can aspire to is the occasional menswear-inspired piece and the hope that Daniel wouldn't notice if I tried to dress him.
