I was perusing a thrift store today and came across a chair I considered revamping. Refinishing the wood would have been no problem for me, but the upholstery, which stretched around the frame save for the places where the wood was exposed, would have been a bit much for me to tackle, inexperienced as I am. other than that sort of thing, I'm not too crafty, though I would like to be. I never can figure out how to cast on properly when it comes to knitting, I always end up inadvertently crocheting. And I'm not too good at that either. I wouldn't mind a hobby, but I also wouldn't mind finding something less isolating, as long as I found it engaging as well. And full disclosure, I don't have a license. I think it's not just action that needs settling on, it's mindset as well. This may take a while.

I'm taking up a similar chair project, actually! We found one on the side of the road. The fabric's ugly and old and the seat caved in, but the framework is solid and quite pretty. As far as the fabric recovering part, what I'm doing is taking detailed pictures of the way it's attached before I take it out. That way I can just refer back to those when putting on new fabric. But I don't know if paying lots of money at a thrift store would be a good idea for a first time project, since it's a learning experience. Finding a free or almost free chair might be best.

Have you looked up video tutorials for knitting? I came across one once that was aimed at older children/tweens, but it was really quite helpful. Much less confusing that diagrams in books. I could have learned how to knit completely from those videos, I just lost the will.

Maybe take an interesting class at a community college?

My house has too many chairs actually. I keep trying to get my Mom to move one to her room, but she claims she has to
"clean". Why can't she just shove things to one side to deal with later liker the rest of us do?

I really want to learn to sew. My goal would be to make a Halloween costume. Preferably steam punk.

I feel like my room needs a chair, but there just isn't a spot for it. I used to have one in here, but it became sort of a catchall for all the junk that didn't have a proper place... When I have my own home, though, I suspect that it will be positively littered with chairs. I don't know why, I really prefer to sit on couches, but I am always drawn to pretty chairs...

I want to learn how to sew too! I'm intimidated by it, though... I bought this cute skirt over the summer. It fits me nicely and has a lovely pattern, but the length is just terrible. It ends at the worst possible place for a skirt to end on your calf. It looks so weird. I want to hem it to be just above the knee. Hemming is probably one of the simplest projects I could take on, but I'm so afraid of getting it all crooked!

Maybe you could find an ugly skirt at a thrift sale you don't care about?

If you can find one in a hideous color that'd be even better. And then you could cut the skirt and pretend it's a dragon?

----------

Just so you know, I'm picturing one that's a hideous pea green and wooly.

Well, it depends on the pea green. There's pretty pea green, and then there's vomit pea green. I would never insult the former!

But if you really want to mock sword fight...

Precisely why I chose this attack! I did keep a few kittens for myself, though.

And hence the defensive shields. I knew your cuddle campaign was a brilliant tactile maneuver.

Refer to my previous statement regarding the refusal of tiny kitten snuggles and the lack of a soul.
