I've always liked the idea of Gunne Sax clothes, but when I've searched them online I was never drawn to anything I found for sale. I found an absolutely prefect dress while I was out of town though, and I am totally in love with it. Honestly, I am amazed it even fit me, 'cause I'm shorter and curvier than shape those clothes were made for. I don't have a good picture of the dress overall yet, but here is the fabric motif:

I was initially drawn in by the teal and brown colors, and all the white lace it has, but when I realized the pattern was framed portraits of trees, I about died of happiness.
That's lovely I have the opposite in that I'm tall for things. I just bought a full length summer dress and it's half way up my calves

That tassle idea is cute. I think what would throw me off using kool aid is a random corner of my place smelling really fruity for weeks.

You could certainly use a proper fabric dye if you were so inclined! I think the DIY was just meant to be cheap and very simple, being aimed at teens, so they tried to keep it as easy as possible.

Have you guys done any of that shibori style dyeing? I was thinking of trying some plain cotton lengths then making them into clothing, since I have some craft store gift cards.

Oh, I haven't but I've always thought it was neat. I think I may have done some tie dye when I was a kid, and that's pretty similar, iirc.

I love tie dyeing...and I figured this would be a more adult-y version that I can make some pretty cute summery things with, like a skirt or dress. I saw a cool exhibit on indigo wear in Japan while I was in Portland, and I stumbled upon some of my pictures again.

Hey party people, thought you'd want to know H&M is having a pretty big sale right now. Home stuff included. A lot of junky stuff that's clearly on sale for a reason, but the first few pages are full of some great finds, even things that were on my mental wishlist. $4 hand towels! Score.

It doesn't show in that picture, but the sleeves have a strip of lace down the center, with no backing, so you can see skin. I've seen that as a DIY thing around Pinterest and really liked the idea, so I'm pretty stoked on that.

Oh, that's so cute! Silly me, I didn't realize it was going to be a period dress, I was thinking it was that pattern on a modern dress. The reality makes much more sense! Do you have events in mind to wear the dress to? It's definitely a dress that demands a good occasion.

I went to The Container Store yesterday. Nothing more exciting to me than the promise of organization. Only thing frustrating to me is the disparity of the prices of their products. Some things are cheaper than you'll find anywhere else (got some decent-sized, clear, stackable bins for gloves, scarves, hats, etc. for $1.87 each!), and other things just have the most ridiculous markup ($15 for a single airtight food storage container? NAH, SON.). I felt like I left there with a shopping list of what to look for at Target and Walmart. But if nothing else, you can get a lot of inspiration there. And sometimes even an amazing price. Though I'll give them this - their expensive stuff is often worth it. When it's the stuff they're making, not a regular brand they carry (then it's definitely cheaper at Walmart). Some of their closet organizational products were just so nice, and reasonably worth the price. It's just that I have no money.

Organization is a fancy thing, right? Can't be fancy when you're messy.

Weird tip? Ace hardware is now selling some pretty cute kitchen and small container storagey stuff. They also have a paint color called bathing beauty which is a scheele's green without the arsenic. If you're into that. Which I am for reasons.

Huh, nice! I don't... actually know if there are Aces out here. I see Lowe's and Home Depots a-plenty, but not so much on the Ace front. But hey, I just moved, what do I know about what's out here? In any case, if there aren't any Aces, I could probably find something similar at Lowe's. They do carry some nice, stylish stuff since they rebranded themselves to be a bit different than the "RAW WOOD FER MANLY MEN" Home Depot. Though Home Depot does have Martha Stewart, so maybe we'll call it even.

Crazy, I was thinking about this like five minutes ago, wondering if I should take some pics.

The place isn't "finished" yet, of course. Lots of bare walls, still need a decent TV stand a few rugs, need a little bookcase for my comics, etc. But it's coming along pretty well! I love this little place. So yeah, let's do a little tour!

House TourX

Living roooooom! We plan on putting this rug in front of the couch/under the coffee table once the new Ikea opens next month. I'd also like a sheer curtain panel, maybe in a light gray, maybe with some kind of plant pattern, for the right side of the window. It'll be tied back, mostly just for framing/aesthetic purposes.

The other side of the living room + entryway and a bit of the dining room. As mentioned, needs a nice TV stand. Maybe this one, but we haven't decided yet. To the left is a little nook where we keep the litter box, right by the balcony door. Not shown for obvious reasons.

Dining room feat. too many plants! Found that table in the alleyway. There's junk below it and behind it... and on the dining room table. Not shown because I don't want to broadcast junk but also don't wanna clean.

My kitchen.

I don't have a plant problem, honestly. (Ignore the basil, it's a dramatic baby)

Close up on the bar thing between the kitchen and dining room. Poor lighting because who knows why, it's not like I had all the lights on plus ample natural lighting.

The bathroom is still a bathroom.

BEDROOM IS SUCH A DISASTROUS MISHMASH. I'll get it fixed up eventually.

Right now my wonderful boyfriend is helping me build a custom computer to replace my broken laptop, may it rest in peace. But once that's taken care of, we'll be back to getting furniture. Lots of relatives gave me very generous birthday+housewarming combo gifts of cash, so even though my finances are tight atm I can get some sweet furnishings.

Looking great! Loving the Halloween decoration Did you ever find a tapestry you liked for the ruddy wall?

If you look closely, you'll see three skulls throughout those pictures. It's not halloween decorating, I'm just year-round spooky. But the hand is new, and may have been purchased from a Halloween section, yes. Anyway, there's a glittery skull on the coffee table, a crystal skull vodka bottle in the kitchen windowsill, and a little purple skull on the dining room window sill which my friend got me in Mexico.

Haven't found a tapestry yet! I'm on the lookout for all sorts of art, but I've gotta be picky. Also, money. I'm buying a large painting that my friend did next time I see them, though. But it'll be a bit as they live across the state and also it's pretty expensive so I don't have the dough just yet. Here's the finished photo they sent me:

It'll go on the green entryway wall so that it's framed by the doorway that leads to the living room.

Relatively? It'll be open to the living room, and if I'm in the living room there will be lights on.

I love it.

Erm. Okay? In truth I don't really know myself. But. I do have some interesting news. I erm. I acquired a real pre-raphaelite etching.

Well, I found it for sale on the internet a few years ago. I forget what it I was searching for, something pre-raphaelitey, sure, but I can't say it was me looking to buy art.* A few years ago, I also got some inheritance money from my godmother. I want to hang on to as much of that as I can, but nothing is too fixed. Anyway, so the idea entered into my head that I could possibly buy it, as it wasn't *too* much money (395 pounds). I pondered it off and on all this time, checking periodically it see if it was still available from the gallery. And it was. And I mean, it's not only pre-raphaelite, I like it. so. Yeah, I eventually convinced myself that it would be okay to buy it, especially as I could probably use it as collateral if I should ever need to do that. And here we are. Do you want to see it?

*I may have been looking for a piece of art at a specific gallery that does sell them (Leicester Galleries?) but just because I wanted to see a specific work.

Heh.

It's actually something he painted as well, so I went to google that, and found that the aforementioned Leicester galleries had a page on one of their own:
The Abundance of Egypt by WILLIAM HOLMAN HUNT - Peter Nahum At The Leicester Galleries
And here's the painting:
BBC - Your Paintings - Afterglow in Egypt
Look at all them pigeons. I'm happy with my cows and camels though, don't think I'm disappointed
