This world has been crap since humans have fought each other anyway. Some countries have been at war so long, the generations are raised to only know fighting, and finding a peaceful solution is now impossible because the children only know war.

Haha don't be fooled. We in by no means kept ourselves isolated from either war.

We got involved in WWI for economic interests in ensuring Britain's victory, despite claiming to be neutral. Looking up the "Merchant of Death" concept, which also shows up later in WWII, for one point. Also it's the reason why we offered such feebly protest to the British violation of international neutrality laws and use of neutral flags which started a chain of events that resulted in the use of unrestricted submarine warfare by the Germans.

In WWII, we entered the war with Japan because what you have is two new imperialist countries with their eyes set upon the Chinese market. They were both looking for a sphere of influence, push came to shove. The Americans set trade embargoes and limited Japanese immigration, which of course then caused the retaliation of Pearl Harbor as well.

Granted, these are very briefly explained reasons but I could go into full detail if necessary. :B

My fiancee is a big WWII nut. He and I take opposite sides on most discussions, because it's more interesting that way. It's also amusing for me to play devil's advocate, trying to push holes in his preconceptions of things he's been told to believe.

I helped out at a garage sale toady. It was for relay for life. I got a good haul.

At the moment I'm focusing on the Cold War and the WWI.

I'm working on a paper for the sinking of the Lusitania, which actually argues the Germans were completely justified in sinking it despite Americans and other neutrals being onboard.

See, the Germans AREN'T essentially evil. XD

I don't know enough about history to even be able to begin to debate or agree with that. I just learn the basic facts to get me a B in my history courses.

Yeah I'm only a History major in my sophomore year, so I'm still learning quite a bit myself.

Haha you should hear me go on about the Lusitania incident in 1915. I'm working on a pretty solid paper for that one and thinking about speaking to my professors to see if I could get a speaker presentation on it.

Before I was forced to leave college - I was going for an Anthropology major, with side focuses on linguistics and myths/legends. It's only been recently that I've paid attention to 'modern' history. XD

Now, if I were to go back to college, I'd take a course in Asian studies, and get a Business major. I want to own my own jewelry store and pimp myself out as a translator on the side.

Alas, as much as I wish I could have an intelligent history discussion with you Vixen, it was not one of my better subjects throughout school...

As much as it does interest me, I don't have the education experience.

Definitely go into secondary education. Who knows, maybe get a PhD someday and teach at a university.

My dad was an English major and has been in the newspaper business for most of his adult life. My mom was the history nut - but her focus is England/France War of the Roses sort of thing. She can tell you exactly how many Henry's there were and who all of their wives and mistresses were etc, ad nauseum. I got burned out pretty quick and stopped listening before I hit my teens. I like Ancient Egypt and silly useless things like that.

I think history is interesting, but not wars and stuff. And only parts of it. I'm very idiosyncratic at what catches my interest.
