Many of us spend so much of our time in the Nation threads because they're a place where we can discuss absolutely anything, but with the same people, on a regular basis. Each hangout thread is like its own little discussion club. And since we already talk about movies and such in there, we find little need to spend more time in the forums that are actually dedicated to specific topics. I'm not sure if it's more of a blessing or a curse, but it's just a side-effect to having hangout threads. Personally, I would recommend leaving things as they are, really.

I would be interested in seeing this happen, as I enjoy discussing such things. But you're right about them being pretty slow. xD

I don't think I would. I'm pretty lazy and by definition I tend to stick to the Roleplaying forum primarily. If they were moved up to the top then maybe...

Although I'm one to usually stick to a handful of subscribed threads, I do occasionally like to wander and have posted in the Media thread. I would be for the revision, HOWEVER if I can kindly suggest ditching the 'one thread per topic' rule as I found it annoying when I wanted information about a particular video game and had to do some serious thread necroing.
That, and, I couldn't set the topic of the title to reflect that I needed help with something in particular with that game.
----------
@jelly - Me me me! I play videogames and listen to music. :XP I don't really discuss music like videogames, though.

lol, as if I venture out of my comfy zone anymore. xD
I suppose I might randomly venture over there if they were easier to access. As it stands they're kinda a round about forum to get to. Now I DO think they would get more traffic if they were more out there since a lot of newbies tend to stay out of subforums. I think music and video games are something most people play, and so it would help the community. (:

This is how I, personally, navigate the site. First, I visit My Account and hit all my subscribed threads. I'm also subscribed to Community Discussion, Menewsha Nation, Community Sites Discusion and Manga/Anime. If nothing it going on in my subscribed threads, I'll hop around those. If I have to visit anywhere else on the site, I always visit the main forum page and navigate from there. Since that's just how I do it, any length added by more icons won't affect me at all. I'll still do it that way. I also hop around from Spy occassionally. I don't really see the addition of more forums as a problem. People might be lazy, but if they want to see what we have to offer, they'll have to put their scroll wheel to work. It's not like the page is 50 pages long or anything.
I know we're trying to get away from being too kiddy, but I think making the Anime/Manga forum more prominent would get it more hits. Not saying that Anime and Manga are kiddy, I'm an adult and I watch/read it, but I'm sure some people are still stuck in that old mindset. Either way, it's stuck in a sort of odd place. Yes, manga are books, but anime isn't. People tend to think anime first and they'll head into media.
While I love music, I don't tend to discuss it much. My tastes are rather interesting too.

Very good point about anime, I'm honestly not sure why it's lumped in with manga, that doesn't makee much sense at all. Apart from the fact that they're both Japanese, hmmm.
Anime could really do with it's own forum, couldn't it.

I don't think I personally would visit them more.
I know they're there. When I'm looking for a topic I know where to go.
It might be easier for new-er members. My first few days I didn't know they existed. I didn't know a lot of forums existed.
I don't have anything against the change. If it's beneficial I'm all for it. It just wouldn't really affect me at all.

Yeah, if we could split the anime forum off, that would be better. I might hang out there more often if it weren't confuzzled with the manga threads.

I do not visit that particular forum.
But, if you feel that it does need change, maybe show us how it is going to look before it goes live.
That way, we can say we like it or don't.

I would still keep Anime and Manga together, because lots of anime is also a manga and vice versa, I just don't think books is the best place for it. It could move to Media (if Media stays) or just be its own forum. It doesn't make a lot of sense to divide anime and manga but still have the same topics in both forums you know. :)

I always thought they were grouped together because half the time, they're the same series. Like, do you read Naruto or watch it? XD
I play lots of games, I watch a good amount of movies, and I read tons of books/manga. However, I don't bother going to threads about it or make my own threads about it because:
A. These threads are dead, and any commenting is necro.
B. I can say the same thing in a nice lively Hangout thread when the subject comes up. And it usually does at some point. Get enough people together and chances are good we'll talk about what we're doing/reading/watching at the time and other people will talk about it too.
I actually created a thread once about a game series which - while an import from Japan that has never been ported to any other country - is so popular IN Japan that they have manga, anime and OVA movies based on the game series. It's awesome - but people don't stop into random threads to find out about things they don't already recognize, so my thread is pretty much very very dead, at like one page.
I'm not the only one this happens to - it's very common. If it's not a super-popular topic, no one bothers to stop by - unless you've got chatting friends from other threads who come by out of sympathy - and then you end up talking about something else, and it's then more of an extension of another thread where you were already hanging out.
It's not that people don't watch moives - it's that most of us don't need a 'special' place to talk about them. We'll do it wherever we are, if it's a subject that comes up.

I think I might just move stuff and see what happens. Can easily be moved back agan if it proves to be a complete waste of time.
No wonder it's so damn hard to encourage activity on this site though, if the majority of you guys never set foot outside of your subscribed threads!
