Just out of curiosity (I really don't feel like browsing through 28,000 posts right now... X_x) are any of you guys in post-bac programs, like graduate or doctorate level? I'm working on my doctorate now and it makes undergrad look like a cakewalk :S

lol this is the thing, like with mine, it's not that I don't trust his skills on the road, but I certainly don't trust everyone. So this little scene plays in my head of him driving along safely enjoying the ride and then a semi just being like
*APPEAR FROM NOWHERE WRAWH*
*plows russ flat*
now in a car there is hope you will still be fine, On you tube I saw I guy come out of a flatted car un harmed XD
but on a bike? No chance
and that would so sad
SO I say compromise you can GET a bike and ride as fast and long as you want
on a closed track?
how's that? XD
No worries Ely I'm secretly posting at work ssssh XD

Elysium - I've yet to see it, it looks really good! Maybe I should do that today... hmmm...
I can understand your moms sentiments. It's unfortunate, but there's a lot of people who get hurt on bikes. By a lot of stupid people who don't look where they're going... I went out yesterday and bought gear head to toe. So whenever I drop/crash the bike, hopefully at low speeds, I won't be a bloody smear across the ground. Just bruised and unhappy. Yay leather, textiles, and Kevlar!
There was a short list of things I told my girlfriend before dating: Motorcycles, guns, and home brewing. They all weren't stereotypical guys things though, because there was also: my kitchen, fluffy animals (especially cats), no beaches, no rollercoasters (they scare me), and I'm staying anti-social.
Wagon - I'm not, but serena yuy is doing her Masters in library science.
Bound - That's the part that's worrying me. Everything's going really swell and then SPLAT. Car.
In my car? Pssssh. Lies. Motorcycles have force fields and stuff!
But... the road calls. I'll be careful x3. It's not like I can do that much crazy with a Honda Rebel 250cc.

wagon: We've got a graduate student, yes. But we don't have any post-BACs as far as I know.
@Birdie: There ya go. That's an interesting compromise. Or at least have them not ride on interstates and shit? Because honestly I wouldn't mind having a bf that rode crotchrockets or some shit. Just as long as he wasn't an idiot about it.
I'd probably have to lay down the law and say: no interstates, no bad weather, period. No busy roads, and if you ever don't wear a helmet I'm dumping you without explanation and leaving your shit on the lawn.
@nonsense: If you can find it you should see it. :) As long as you don't mind the fact that they never stop singing.
Yeah, that's why I say just be really careful. My mom has been through so much that no normal person can understand, though, so my dad knew his place. Besides, he's got his speed boat now, and it works for him. ^.^

She's trying to be a librarian as far as I know. :)

ElysiumFate: Man, is that evidence that the requirements for every job are increasing or what? I mean, a master's for becoming a librarian when 20 years ago most librarians probably had high school diplomas at best :O My career is definitely evidence of that trend too: 30 years ago most pharmacists didn't even have college degrees, then it became a bachelor's required except for those grandfathered in, now it requires a doctorate! Soon we'll see people getting their PhD's in ditch-digging :S

I think librarians have always needed some sort of degree, but I doubt it was always a master's. XP
But yeah, gosh. Might as well become an actual practicing doctor if you've got to get a doctorate to be a pharmacist.
I myself need to get a Ph.D. to become a psychologist.

ElysiumFate: Yeah, I can't find much on when the master's requirement for librarians was instituted, but it seems to be pretty recent. Still strikes me as odd, but I'm sure plenty of people think the same about pharmacists needing their doctorate.
I thought about becoming a doctor but there are some parts of becoming a pharmacist that are more attractive to me, especially since I can be done and practicing in three years rather than four years of med school plus another three or four of residencies :O
How far along are you in your studies?

You'd have to ask Ser, I bet she knows. She's having a vacay of sorts with her boyfriend atm, though, so she's not around much.
Ahh, yeah, not having to do those residencies is worth it. I originally wanted to be a psychiatrist, but I really don't want to do med school just for that. I might yet, I have time to decide. But I don't feel like I should be doing autopsies and cadaver disections, etc., to listen to people talk.
I'm halfway through my junior year of my bachelor's. :)

Omg, I am not going for my doctorate. But like they keep saying, I can relate. ^^"
Shoot me now. Even Master's level stuff like the stuff I'm doing is making the undergrad look like a cake walk.
I know people who are planning on going for their doctorates, and I've had conversations with one of my undergrad profs about him going for his PhD and yeah, I send you a lot of good luck.
Actually, even 20 years ago a Master's was required to be a librarian. We do more than just the stuff in front. We have to know a lot of computer stuff and cataloging. My degree basically is a Masters in Library and Information Science. Ever since the internet and computers became what it is now, we have to also take into consideration being an information professional and navigate this stuff.
The Masters in Library Science has been around for longer than 20 years. It's been over the past 20ish that the "I" was added for Information. But, the first school for Library Science itself (dunno if it was just training or if it would be that era's equivilent of a Masters) was in 1887 with Melville Dewey.
I dunno if I'll post again for a bit since I have one more day of this vaca with Mike tomorrow. He goes back home on Tuesday (sad I am) and I also go back to work after enjoying 5 days off (I took Fri off to enjoy a nice day with him. Which we did have :) and to be fully in the vacation spirit)
I'll def be back for a small bit of time tomorrow maybe. If not, I'll be back on Tue.
Gotta head to bed. He's in bed now. ^^" Night

ElysiumFate: Oh cool, so you're pretty much done with your prereqs and working on upper-division stuff now?
serena yuy: Ahhh ok, thanks for clearing that up. I must admit, I'm quite surprised that a librarian would need a master's degree, but then again we consumers only really see the front-end stuff so I'm sure there are lots of things going on behind the scenes. Kind of like pharmacists, most people seem to think all we do all day is count pills :O
Pharmacy school isn't too bad so far, the concepts aren't too hard but there is so much drug information to memorize :/ How is your schooling going?
Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Ehhhh, yeahhh. It really freaked me out. I didn't know if they'd let me take the test when I got there late. I would've failed the class without it. Fortunately they let me and I passed both the test and the class by the hair on my chin.
