I've got no idea if I'll be able to come back to the same university next semester. Hell, I don't even know if I can go back to ANY university after this semester.

I'm still going with the "take a couple semesters off to accrue funds" method of dealing with this.

@ Cart: No, it's not. At least finals I'm too busy to get emo.
@ Hyena: I'd do that, except for one problem; my bitch of a grandmother. She'd make sure that I 1) didn't get a job, 2) that any money I'd earn from that job wouldn't last very long or 3) do anything and everything in her power to keep my ass home. NO FUCKING WAY AM I GONNA BE SOME FUCKING HOUSEWIFE!!!!!!!!

Tell her the law. If she still tries to keep you there, tell her to fuck off and leave. To me, it just sounds like a big guilt trip. You can build up an immunity to that.

That's why I don't post there. But there is a writer's guild that's rather nice.

I decided to throw caution into the wind and ask for some writing advice in the main writer's forum there. Understand that when I come up with a character, they sort of develop a personality and a backstory all on their own regardless of what I WANT to happen. It makes for wonderful character-driven stories, but it gets out of control sometimes. (Last time this happened, the main character ended up with a female fiancee, despite being established as quite gay.) Well, this time, two of my characters have decided that they're brother and sister, after already being obviously in a romantic relationship. I went to the forum to ask for advice, and this was my reaction:
"Don't tell me that bullcrap about not having any control over your characters. YOU are the writer. The characters AREN'T REAL."
"If you're writing the story, can't you just NOT make them brother and sister?"
"You're a liar. They're fictional characters. Stop being such a drama queen."
I roll my eyes. Sorry that I get into character when I write, guys. From now on, I promise to only publish shit stories about robots. -eyeroll-
Sarofset: I write and draw a webcomic about cannibals, cult activity, loss of sanity, projectile rocks, and general faggotry! =DD
(my question was totally just answered because I can't pay attention worth a damn. Yay coffee!)

See most people who write fantasy go the rout of dragons, wizards, and elves, or they make crummy romance bull about sparkly vampires...
I didn't want to go down either rout, since I find them to be a bit played out. I'm currently writing about constructs. Two of them at the moment. Though as you say the story evolves on its own. One is thousands of years old, and the other is still young, and quite mad. :)
I'm actually continuing with the story, which is weird for me. lol. I'm overly critical of my work. I tend to deliete everything after about two pages or so. XD

Taiyo: It only sounds disturbing. For the most part, its just cute. I try to cut the melodrama with humor most of the time. Otherwise, it wouldn't be the fun, wild ride that it is.
Sarofset: Oh... if we're talking about genre then I think my stuff would classify under fantasy/adventure. I would say that they're superheroes, but none of them really subscribes to the capes and spandex school of vigilante-sim. Also, a LARGE number of my characters are neutral-neutral.
Also, I think it TECHNICALLY goes into Magical Realism at this point... >____>
CONSTRUCTS! -claps like a moron- =DDDDD

lol. yes emphasis on the first syllable. Golems, Animated suits of armor, any life form created by humans, and brought to life artificially. :) They make for interesting characters.

I've totally had characters take over the story like that. The problem is whether you think the story is better the way you had it or the way it turned out. Obviously they aren't real writers.
I typically do sci-fi although I have some ideas in the works that are fantasy. The story I'm working on is definitely sci-fi. I need to edit it hard-core, since I did it for Nano.

I once had a character that was a mud golem. He was fun. The story was crappy, but I think I might reuse him...
Fairy: In this particular instance, my characters seem to be the better writers. I was going to have it stop when the main character's relationship came to fruition, but NO! They were all "there's other stuff happening now! WRITE THAT!"

Always good when that happens. It leads to better stories.
I don't get how someone can write, without letting the story evolve at least somewhat naturally. You have to let it flow, or it will seem force, and jumpy. I hate reading stuff like that.

I've found that if I force a character into something that he/she/it doesn't want to do, it just doesn't seem natural. And then I have to ret-con a LOT just so that it will make sense for that character. And I feel bad about making statements like "he was possessed by a demon!" or "it was a doppleganger!" because then I have to write a whole story arc in which that makes sense. >______>
Also, I have yet to mention demons or dopplegangers in my universe. I don't intend on using them quite yet.

I agree. So far my changes have been quite mild, but I did have to change half of last years Nano story because I was trying to force my characters to do unnatural things.
Possession stories are good, but they definitely can seem out of place if done wrong. I agree with being cautious on those.

I already have possession going on, but the character that does the possessing seems to stick to one person throughout. There's no sense in having her jump from one character to the next when its clear that she's already made herself nice and comfy in Leonard's brain. Plus, there are rules to abide by in this universe... and that's important to take into account. >______>
Ugh. Forcing it. It ALWAYS comes out rigid. Its like... like introducing a villain for the SOLE purpose of being EEEVIL.
