Pearl, ball point pen. Your mother is a ball point pen.

I couldn't find the German thread.. it's not in my subscriptions anymore (I think they were reformatted at some point or something, must've fallen out then) and the links in my language thread are so old they don't work anymore.. damn Mene for changing everything!

Has this changed to a 'who is the most geeky' competition all of a sudden?

Mornin' Hyena! It's such a beautiful day and I wanted to get someone for an impromptu photoshoot, but I can't reach anyone, or people are busy. *sigh* I might be able to do one tomorrow though, but I'm just much more busy tomorrow..

What's the matter Taiyo?

I love my dentist. She actually lets you eat candy if you brush your teeth immediately afterwards.

My Mom's making cream of wheat. :) You should probably get something to eat, if you're hungry.

I'm at the library. THat's the only reason I'm on a stable connection. Mom went to get food anyway.

Oh yeah, I LOVE libraries. My computer is so slow I can't do half the things I need without them. And it's so old I can't donate current programs like even the most recent flash. But at least it's a steady connection, I guess.

I love my laptop. It's freaking awesome to have it. It's been a blessing to be honest. I can hang out with my family, while I do my computer work, and I don't have to banish myself to the basement. Plus I can write on my book, whenever the muse hits me. :) That's a giant blessing if you're a writer. You don't have to wait to get home, and log on.

You're a writer too?! What are you writing?

I'm presently working on a book myself...well, books. About half a dozen, all at the same time.

I'm a writer too! I tend to use Google documents, since I can open it on any computer and it saves automatically. It doesn't work that well on my home computer, but I can use it at school.

I'm working on my story from NaNoWriMo last year right now, editing and rewriting the last half. It's a cheery dystopia story about rebellion. And love. That last part just sort of crept in there. I ended up taking out half of what I wrote for NaNo, and I still have a lot of writing to go. Then I have to edit my story from this year's NaNo, which already seems like it's less in need of major editing. We'll see though.

Oh, and what egnres do you guys write? I do sci-fi or fantasy.

...I've mentioned this before. lol. I'm writing at least one fantasy novel, and outlining a couple of other types. Science fiction, and maybe a high school romance. :) I do it all the time, but I always decide it's all crap and delete it. lol.

Most of my friends write too. All fantasy for the most part. My ex was writing a romance, but I think she's kinda dropped it.

I don't really write, but I like realism. (If there is such a thing)

I'm studying great literature and constantly writing academically, so I figure I can return to writing in a few years once I've got some life under my belt.
A novel written by a 19 year old would probably be tiresome.

What do you consider "great literature," because a lot of "classics" should be removed from existence. Frankenstein is pathetic. The characters have little depth, and the first half of the book is superfluous. Everything by Dickens, and Austin are just depressing. Little women is positively dreary the whole way through. ...If you're talking about Chaucer he was really interesting, if you can read middle English. lol.

Much of modern literature is produced by young people.

I wouldn't say MUCH of modern literature, but certainly more than you'd expect. And I agree with Pearl, I want to wait until I have more experience writing before I try to publish. I think you do learn as you write though, which is why I continue writing.

Just because something is depressing doesn't mean it isn't great literature. I did try to read Dickens though, and gave up because I found it incredibly boring. And I liked Frankenstein, so I at least found it a compelling read. But you're entitled to your opinion.

Lolita, What I Loved, Slaughterhouse 5, and As I Lay Dying have been my favourite books.

----------

But I try to resist snobbery, if something's good it's good, and if something's bad it's Tarzan. ;D

Never heard of any of those.

I had to read Pride and Prejudice in English during my final year in high school. I bored me to death.

We had to read it at 14. I was like *stabstabstabstab*

I like the movies/TV serials, especially if Colin Firth is in them, but it's another one of those famous books which is dull as heck in the original - or completely not what you expected.

i.e. Robinson Crusoe. Supposedly the first novel in the English language, it is dull, racist, tediously written, completely un-emotive and stuffed fit to bursting with improbabilities and a sucky plot.

But I wrote a good essay on it so I can't feel too mad at Daniel Defoe. xD

I keep meaning to read Lolita and Slaughterhouse 5, but I haven't yet. I have read and enjoyed the Brother Karamazov, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Brave New World, and more that I can't remember right now. :XD

I've heard bad reports about all of those from one person or another. Occasionally I'll get a good one though. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like them. I like a lot of the pulp fiction of the early 1900's, and a lot of the early science fiction, like Jules Vern. :) It's just about personal taste. I also like literary analysis. Figuring out themes, and metaphors. It's just like a great puzzle for me. :)

The first half of Frankenstein bored me to death, because it has nothing to do with the rest of the story. The actual story part is interesting, and kinda launched the whole Gothic era in literature... by the way Shelly wasn't even twenty yet when she wrote it. Just thought pearl might like to know that.

@ sarofset - maybe if she'd been 29 the first half would've been better. What would you describe it as... tiresome?
