I stayed up until 3am doing a presentation (quite needlessly, I could have been done by 11) which I gave at 9am.
It went ok, it was on an awful book by Theodore Dreiser, An American Tragedy. Terrible book, but it sparked an interesting discussion on naturalism and determinism.
I was sooo tired though, I didn't even notice which clothes I put on, and I thought my friend said cat's feet instead of caffeine.
I just slept from 2-5pm xD
I've had 7 hours total, I hope I can still sleep tonight.

I think it's an excellent way to celebrate. I'm not wearing any pants myself. That may or may not be a good way to celebrate it. :XD

I am too. I wonder what the items will be, and if there will be less items this time.

i missed the winter event so i'm hoping this one I won't miss.
Ugh I'm so tired...I had my internship today and my boss couldn't get in on time but I was on the bus for disabled people so they guy needed permission to leave me somewhere else. Everyone is stuck, traffic and parking suck because there's feet of snow everywhere. My boss asked me a really inapprorpriate question at lunch and I spent a few hours working with a printer that decided it only liked to print once every five minutes and leave off the last page only to print it a minute later.
I'm. Tired.

Yikes! I think I may need a job, so I'm worried it'll turn out like that. My family's on food stamp because my Mom's out of work, but we need to calculate if we get less money if I get a job or if we get more food stamps that way. It sucks.

Yeah. I love pinging, but it can be confusing at first. It's not hard once you get the hang of it though!
Well, it's better than it was. Actually, my Mom getting fired had nothing to do with the economy and more to do with the changing of bosses. Her new boss didn't like her. I think she was also trying to show that if she could fire my Mom, she could fire anyone else. It was a power play, really.

Still. record unemployment, and all. Kinda not a good job on their part.
I understand though. My mom was forced to retire form her job of thirty some odd years, by a newbie lawyer woman, who had no clue what she was doing, and treated her so poorly that she almost had a heart attack. ...I do not like lawyers. ...well most of them. I've met some nice ones, but I think the job turns people into jerks.

The thing is, part of it's not even the government's fault. The economy is a tricky thing and you can't really pin it down to just what the government does or does not do. Maybe they caused it, maybe they didn't. It's a number of factors. You ask 10 different economists about the issue and they'll give you ten different answers. If it IS the government's fault though, it has to have started back when Bush was president.
Yeah. I think so too. I've met FUTURE lawyers that are jerks too. So maybe it's just a personality to go into law?

In actuality it's the fault of a bunch of people. They put in a regulation which forced the mortgage companies to do loans they knew they couldn't get back. When they figured that out, their CEO's decided to grab as much money as they could and run. Then the Government completely went the wrong way when the collapse happened, and screwed us up for a much longer time. Taxes should have been dropped, to help businesses and people get back on their feet, but they raised them, and bailed out the companies that screwed up in the first place. ...it's a bit of a cluster$#&% actually. No one really did the right thing at all.

Well see that's the whole thing, economists disagree. Some thought raising them would help, and other thought lowering the taxes would help. It's really more of an art than a science to be honest. But yes, I will agree that a lot of things went wrong. But those are all different parts of the government, so it's also the left hand not talking to the right. And bailing out those companies WAS the right thing to do because they actually do have a valuable function in the economy. However, I think they really shouldn't have let them get to that point in the first place. The economy is recovering naturally now though, and we will just have to wait for it to reach a more normal level again.

MMmm, I was very encouraged that the President felt confident enough during the State of the Union to say that "the worst of the recession is over."

Actually unemployment is continuing to rise, and the economy is suffering. Bailing out those companies stagnates the economy in the short term and allows them to do anything they want in the long. They should have been allowed to fail, so that their competitors could grow to fill in their places. That's how evolution works. Jobs would have been created, and the economy wold be better now.
Most of the economists out there said to lower taxes. Lowering taxes always stimulates the economy, and raising them always makes it suffer. That's basic economics actually.

In my opinion, unless you're an economist, you really shouldn't be talking about how to fix the economy.

I've studied economics, behavioral psychology, anthropology, sociology, etc. :) I'm obsessive about studying people, and what they do, and why they do it.
Anyways, politics is bad to talk about with friends. XD makes for fights. therefore...
I'm writing a new book. :) What kinds of things do you guys like reading?
