Thanks! You should post a picture of Ginger. :D
Yeah, Izzy would tolerate kisses, but he'd spend the entire time trying to wiggle out of your hands. But he didn't get mad and bite or anything like that.

I've never had a hamster, but I've had several gerbils and two guinea pigs in the past. My guinea pigs were actually pretty boring, which was a disappointment because everyone else made them sound like so much fun. Mine never got tame though. -_- The gerbils on the other hand were some of the best pets I ever had; they definitely all had very distinct personalities and were very friendly.
I have a friend who used to have hamsters. Apparently she started out with only a few, but unfortunately they weren't all female/all male as she thought, and at one point she actually ended up with forty-seven. Her mother turned them loose outside though, but of course several of them made their way into their basement and somehow into their walls, so for a while her house was somewhat hamster-infested. xD And if I remember right, at another point in time she actually had one that managed to escape, and half a year later or so one day out of nowhere it came running out from under the refridgerator. After she chased it throughout the house for a while, I think she finally managed to catch it and kept it for quite a while after that. xD

Something similar happened to my mom when she was younger! She had a little syrian hamster that escaped. A few months later they heard something in the wall, and my grandpa then found the hamster sitting in one of the air ducts, perfectly fine and alive.
My Izzy made a few jailbreaks, too. We ended up having to reinforce his cage doors metal keychain clips, because he got strong enough to push them open himself. He never left the room, though, and we found him before we even knew he was out of the cage. It was a situation where you just go in the room, notice a hamster running across the floor, "Oh, I guess he got out..."

My white hamster was doing gymnastics today! He's on his own in the cage now, which is plastic with a barred door bit in the lid. There was a seed "thing" hanging from the bars, one of those things that looks like a cereal bar and he was trying to get to it.
I looked round because he was making a lot of noise and was treated to the vision of a hamster hanging in thin air by its front paws from the bars in the top of the cage D: I couldn't open the top to catch him either because that would have made him fall off. He dropped down to the bottom of the cage with seemingly no damage though, and I unhooked the seed stick ans laid it down for him xD

Aww, that sounds cute.
Yeah, as delicate as hamsters seem, they can handle small falls pretty well. Of course, I wouldn't advocate going around dropping them, but when my Izzy was young he quite fancied jumping right out of my hands. One time I actually managed to catch him on the way down, but he immediately jumped right back off. The only time his little falls seemed to effect him was his first one, which I'd say was from nearly five feet up. He was stunned for a brief second (in which I was terrified he'd died or injured himself) but then he got right up and ran under my desk.

I'll be posting pictures of The Ginger Kid when I get internet at home again
and if you have a problem with jailbreaks, I suggest getting a glass aquarium and use that instead of a cage. They can't climb out of them, and it also helps if your little one is a bar-chewer
NEVER let them chew the bars, that can cause brain damage, and misalign teeth, and some misaligned teeth can actually keep growing and cause damage or death.

Yeah, but the thing with glass aquariums is that they don't have as good ventilation, which can be bad for them.
Izzy did chew on his bars quite a lot. Sometimes it was to signal to us that he wanted more food or wanted to come out, sometimes he just did it out of boredom (he refused to run in his wheel, no matter how many different kinds and sizes we got him) or because he was frustrated (sometimes he'd want to come out, we'd offer to let him come out, but then he'd have worked himself up into such an anger that he no longer wanted out, he just wanted to be mad at his bars). It never effected him, though. *shrug*

I currently have a little hammie named Lyla...we should have changed the 'y' to an 'o', because seriously, she's a spoiled brat. There is that song, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets..." we usually just sing "Whatever Lyla wants..."
She's also narcoleptic. O_O And a spazbucket...but she's cute, right? ...>>;

I once had the most amazing hamster! Her name was Kali, she was pale chocolate brown and she loved fuss! Whenever you walked past her cage she press herself against the door in a "FUSS MEEEEE!" Kind of way. She loved to be handled too. I remember once I had her on the bed and it was late at night. My fiance was in bed at the time and she climbed up him, curled up on his chest, and then they both fell asleep together XD it was so cute. I miss er so much :( She died in my hands and I cried for ages. She also loved oreo cookies (she once peeled one half off and then ate the cream side! o_O) and wotsits (cheesy poofs for you americans >.>)
I currently have a syrian named Hamtaro (it's what I get for letting my fiance's best friend name her) and a dwarf (not sure what kind, he was in the "adopt me because my owner didn't love me" part of the pet store) named Ludwig.

i have a hamster named harry.
to be quite honest, i do not know what kind he is. all I know is that
he's a dwarf hamster. he's a bit of a sleepy head but i love him anyways.
c: i've also bred hamsters for a while. it was a bit disasterous at first
because she nibbled out the cage and escaped, so did her babies.
oh my god, i had to find them all. c: but they are mega cute!

The ventalation problem can be fixed by leaving the lid off and making sure the aquarium is high enough that he/she can't get out, even if they climb on stuff to do so
my little guy is rather smart, he's too big for his wheel, so he climbs on top of it, sits his back against the bars and runs on top of the wheel XD

I don't think any aquarium would have been tall enough to keep Izzy in.

Yes, Izzy wanted to explore everything. And whenever I'd block him from going somewhere (like, oh, off the edge of the bed), that'd make him want to go there even more, and he'd get really persistent about trying.
Sometimes I'd take him in the bathroom and block off the toilet area and shove towels under the doors so he could run around on the floor freely without me constantly coralling him and worrying about him darting under a piece of furniture. But he could just tell where I'd blocked something off, and he just wouldn't leave that area alone. He had a great desire to see the toilet, apparently. Then I'd lay on the floor (on a towel - floors are icky) and he'd climb all over me.

Starling - Exactly!
Sometimes I'd sit on my bed and bend my knees up and then put him right in my lap so he'd try to climb up to the "summit." Teeny tiny hamster claws climbing up your jeans tickles.

*squees at the visual*
I was sleeping the other day, and my dad came into my room and let the hamster out, so he was climbing on me. I woke up with him on the pillow in front of my face, washing his 'widdle face'. He was sitting on my hair so when I lifted my head it was like a rug was pulled out from under his feet. He rolled down the pillow onto the matress and was SO cute doing it!
My widdle tumbler.
His expression was that of 'wtf just happened? The ground friggen moved!'

I took a pic of my little furballs. I gave them a pumpkin seed each so they'd stay still for a minute xD The pics aren't really very clear because I didn't use the flash as I didn't want to blind the little guys.

I moved the grey one into my fishtank today, and did try to see if they could go back in together as they'd have a big space, but they still don't like each other. The white one is terrified of his brother and runs away if he so much as looks at him. I put my hand into the tank and he was climbing up my sleeve in a bid to get away and he's normally pretty shy about contact, so I cleaned his cage out and put him back in there. He comes up to me now though and is all friendly so that short spell in with his brother accomplished something at least xD

When I was a teen I had a gold and white hamster female I named her Honey. for some reason she hated me a lot. each time I would pick her up she would bite me the naughty little girl. as long as I recall we sold her at a garage sale at are house but before she was sold. the little brat did a jail break on us thank goodness my mom found her.
As really young child in grade school my sister and my self had a male hamster. we named him Mickey I don't recall much about him at all. but when we stayed at my grand maws house one night. he got out of his cage got in the middle of the night one of his back leg's caught on the back of the stove. after that he turned mean on us we could not save him. we had no choice but to let him die back there.
