I actually don't really like carbonated beverages. They make me feel a little bit dizzy :P I usually call it by the brand name, like Sprite, 7up, Cocacola ect. I do call it Soda from time to time, but I am Canadian. It's more common for Canadians to call it pop though.

I say soda and my favorite is Dr Pepper or Pepsi. Though, I've been avoiding Dr Pepper lately because I think it gives me a headache. o.O;
But at the moment, I don't care WHAT it's called, I just want some. D:

Soda IS carbonated water... with flavored high fructose corn syrup, usually ;) (or invert sugar if you get something fancy like an organic soda, Jones Soda, or "throwback" sodas like Pepsi Throwback or Mt. Dew Throwback)
But if I'm asking for just the carbonated water, I'll ask for "seltzer water" or "soda water."

I call it soda or coke.
Though if you go north about 30 minutes people say Pepsi (mainly because it is the major brand there). Go north more and everyone calls it pop.
Around here you can usually tell what town a person is from by what they call soda.

I've always called it soda. Though when I visit my relatives in Oklahoma they all call it pop or soda pop...except for my parents, who still call it soda. My parents have a little ongoing thing that they put on their refrigerator called "Oklahoma-ism Of the Day" where they highlight an odd phrase that you'd only really hear in Oklahoma! XD

I'm English so of course we call it pop. But I dated an American for a while and when I used to play online games I would be on skype with Americans so I started a few American Vocal habbits so I do slip up a lot and say soda. Which is funny when ordering at a bar because some people are so dim they have no idea what you mean XD I also say yoghurt how they say it too which makes my fiance make fun of me lol.

Yup, totally agree :yes: soda is what people mix into brandy xD Very occasionally someone might say "bottle of pop" if they're talking about wanting to buy some and don't have anything in particular in mind. Otherwise people will state: Dr. Pepper, cherryade, apple Tango, etc. But any generic term for carbonated stuff is very rarely used in the UK.

I call it pop but I live here in the west. Some of my friends call it Soda though. I've always thought it was weird how people called any kind of carbonated beverage "coke" I had some friends that called it that and it always confused me.

I call most carbonated drinks either soda or pop... around my family it's pop, because they're weird. To everyone else its soda.
