For those of you who have yet to notice, Mene is now sporting a chat system at the bottom of the screen (complete with a new toolbar). Reminds me of Facebook chat...though it has yet to eat my responses, so I'm going to call it the superior chat despite its newness. Spiffy right?!

This should make it much easier to keep track of who's online when etc. etc.

Features:

1) Hand Writing/Drawing Tool - click the pen at the top of a chat window to be given the option to hand write or draw something and send it to your friend.

2) Clear Conversation - Self explanatory. The tool resembles the bottom of a broom.

3) Time - the clock icon adds time stamps to your posts and makes them disappear if you click it again.

4) Games - Click on the card tab/tool in the chat window to start one of 27 different games with a friend.

Issues Noted Thus Far:
  • If you click on another page within the site itself, any chats you've started with folks who aren't on your friend list (those you've met in the chat rooms and started talking to on the side for example) disappear.

That aside, how do you think this will effect chat based posting (if at all)? How do you feel about this brand spanking new feature etc. (I don't think I saw an announcement about it up yet, so I'd love to see some feedback here in the mean time).

*pokes at the toolbar a bit* Such a -magical- little gadget. At least, so far. I'm enjoying it for the moment.

I was wondering if someone was going to post about it. I haven't really used it yet. Nobody online and there weren't any chat rooms opened when I last looked. I don't really know what to make of it, either. It doesn't really feel necessary, but at least it's a cool way to keep track of who's online when I feel like jumping into roleplays again.

I won't be using it, because I don't like chat features or static footers like that. I am usually always Appear Offline for my MSN, and only talk to my girlfriend through it on a regular basis. I see where it will be useful for users, and I'm glad it was implemented for users who will enjoy it. :P

I do like this feature, and for those that don't have AIM or MSN... it will be great to chat to them. ^_^;

The thing I might dislike is it might make less users post on the boards. :S

Other than that, I like this feature. :)

Really the only form I can see effected by it is maybe the Nations Forum. Everything else has to have a topic so I really do not see no posting as being an issue.

@Anna: I think you just click on a username on the "Who's online" list and go from there. Kind of like how Facebook is set up, it seems.

Unfortunately, I don't like the idea. Instant Messaging feels a bit to personal for Mene.. but that's probably just me.
It just seems like it's copied straight from facebook or myspace. I'd rather a feature that is Mene's own design if we have to have Instant Messaging.

I like it. Makes conversation a hell of a lot easier than messaging back and forth via mail... And I love just how simple it is.

I can see how this can be useful for talking back and forth to friends rather than waiting for PMs and filling up your inbox. That's the only time I would use it, if I had anyone to chat with.

I'm not seeing any of these nifty features mentioned above. I'm just seeing the basic chat.

I kinda think it's a little - strange... considering we 'chat' in forums. Commenting like this and chatting away in Quests threads and Charities is how I make the monies! I imagine for other people it'll be great - but I don't think I'm going to be using it much.

It also looked like it's not there anymore on my screen?!

The nifty features show up when you open up a private chat with someone, which you do by clicking on their name if it's showing up on the bottom bar.

I've only really used the general chat and I like that. I think it's a fantastic way for people to talk to others who they've maybe never spoken to in the forums before, and make some new friends! Even if people just come in and lurk and are too shy to post it's a good way to get to know other people. I know I was terribly shy when I first encountered chatrooms but those days are long passed!

I think it will also be good because it will allow people to have live chat with the staff which should make us seem more human and less intimidating, for those of you who find us scary :P I will have to keep away from the chat unless I have nothing pressing to do though, because I can't multitask at all xD

I think it's really nifty. I've already used it a few times for RP planning, etc. and so far it's working out really well. I don't use it tons, but it's nice to have it there when you want/need it.

I think its a cool little feature :) would be nice to add other things to the bottom toolbar too that could come in handy, like notifications or subscribed threads lists

Much liking that it tells you when you get a PM instead of having to refresh to find out... o.o does it do that with trades to? cause if so (since I generally stalk a specific number of threads) that would make me not have to refresh all day long
