“It would be best if we made this quick.” Artemis told him. “I have to get back to the school soon, I’m expecting someone.”

She took off her coat and hung it up, closed the door and made sure it was locked, then looked directly at her brother and got to the point.

“If you want an oracle fine.” She said, clearly with great difficulty. “I know an oracle may be able to protect my girls, and the one is less important than the many. You can look if you want, but once you’ve found her I expect you to treat her with more dignity and respect than you would even give our mother.” That was really saying something too, to Artemis and Apollo, Leto was more important than all the earth.

“But… I want her to finish her schooling. She must stay with me, and if her grades slip, or you have her do anything that would harm her life after graduation, you will pay dearly.”

Sitting down on her bed, Selene sighed heavily. She got the feeling suddenly that she shouldn't be at home, but out somewhere.
"But where? Where should i be? And what should i be doing?" She asked herself, frustrated. She stood up and paced the floor of her room. She walked over to her window and looked out, having a perfect view of the forest. Her home was high up on a hill in the forest-the closest thing to a mountain in that area. Looking carefully, she could see the grounds and main building of Artemis's school, and farther off, the field where Apollo held his archery class. Somewhere in the back of her mind, it occurred to her that Apollo would be there now, probably cleaning up from the last class. She shook her head.
"Why am i thinking of him now? I have other worries. Should i go there,perhaps? But why would i pay him a visit for no reason? But it isn't him i want to see,is it?" She questioned herself. But the question made no sense. If she was to go there, who would she see besides Apollo?
Endymion... Selene looked up, startled. Why would that name come to her now? Endymion...the man she had loved so long ago...and then it clicked. Endymion was back!
"He must have been reborn...but why would he be with Apollo? Could he one of the students there?" She mused. Then she found herself laughing.
"If that is the case, it shouldn't be hard to find him. Apollo has mostly female students." And with that she was up and out the door, shoes on, her clothing changed to look more modern. She was in her car and on her way to Apollo's archery field.

Apollo's eyes widened, hardly believing his luck. But his expression grew serious again as he considered her words. He nodded adamently-the value of his Oracle went deeper than any outsider could ever know.

"You have my word. I swear it on the River Styx that she will be treated with my utmost respect. I will personally assist with her studies if necessary, and see to it that she is safe from all who would misuse her gift," his face was set, but his eyes sparkled with excitement. This would make things much easier in the long run.

"Oh, and another thing before you leave. The Oracle will manifest at the first quarter of the moon. Warning you ahead of time. I will be there to ensure it goes...smoothly."

Selene found the drive to the archery field much quicker than usual as she pulled up only ten minutes after leaving her home.
"I must have broken the speed limit..." she said to herself,getting out of the car. Blinking in the bright sunlight, she looked around to see if Apollo was nearby. Naturally, he was not.
"He must be in his office." She decided, and walked in the direction of the office. As she walked,she looked around to see if anyone there sparked her memory.

"You stay away from her studies, she needs to improve, not learn to slack off." Artemis teased. She still wasn't fully comfortable with this, but she would have to deal. "Hey, I could use a favour. Selene has been kinda depressed latley. I think maybe a hobby could help lighten her mood. What do you think she'd enjoy and be good at?"

Artemis herself had been racking her brain, and that's when she realized she didn't really know her titan cousin that well at all. She knew about her thing with that one guy... what was his name? Eddie or something. But she thought it was stupid to recommend finding Selene a man, and pretty insulting as well to assume the compony of a 'man' would solve all her problems.

As the sun was rising, she had no idea just how long she’d gone working. “My, my, it’s morning already?” Aphrodite traced a finger on the inside of her frosted window. “I should have gone to bed ages ago!” Morning paperboys were making their deliveries to various residences in the city, and families were leaving for work and school. “Such mortals,” she murmured. “Worrying about silly things they can’t even begin to understand. They don’t know that there’s so much more behind the scenes orchestrating their lives.”

It wasn’t long before she’d reach Artemis’ school. Knowing the girl, she’d probably keep her waiting.

"Hey, you're the teacher. Except when it comes to music. And archery," he grinned at her-their rivalary over archery had lasted over a thousand years, "Yeah, she has seemed a little off lately. I mean, more than usual. She's always been more removed than the rest of us...like all the Titan generation. The power was more...absolute back then. It would have been a hard fall for them. Mind you, they have had a lot longer to deal, taking a step back when the Olympians arrived," Apollo paced back and forth, "I've got to admit, I don't know too much about how she lives these days except that she visits the pagan groups from time to time...Has she been in touch with her brother lately? And then there was that boyfriend of hers, tough luck with mortals, I-"

Apollo stopped, realizing he was rambling, "Sorry. Yeah, I'll see what I can do." As he stepped out of the office he noticed Ed, the Range Master lacing up his boots in the hall. Tall, mop-haired and with deep brown eyes, Ed ran the archery academy with a sort of gentle grace, despite his imposing looks and short phrases.

"Morning Ray," he said gruffly.

"Morning Ed," Apollo led Artemis out and noticed a slender figure lingering at the door to the gym, "Speak of the devil," he strode over to the modern young woman, "Gemini. What brings you here?"

Selene started at the sound of Apollo's voice. She turned to see him walking towards her from the direction of the office, just as she had suspected. Instantly reverting to her assumed name, and his, she adressed him casually.
"Ray, sorry to disturb you so early, although I doubt that bother's you much. I came to ask a favor of you, though I'm not sure just how to ask it." She said, feeling slighty foolish. She cleared her throat.
"You see, as you've obviously heard by now, I have been having difficulties lately. I think i may know why, but i can't really say for sure, since i don't have your powers of perception." she said, using the term she usually used when speaking of prophecy in public.
"But even without that, I think what I seek is here."

"Well, going with my instincts is what I do best," Apollo smiled, trying to lighten the mood, but always found Selene a bit disarmingly serious, "If you're looking for something and you feel it's here, chances are you're in the right place. Can you tell me what-hold on a minute..."

One of the younger, more forceful girls had started wrestling one of Artemis' students for a bow, and the older girl was trying to teach her not to, "Hey, you two! Stop that!" Apollo called from across the room, but they paid him no avail. He was about to run over when Ed strode past to separate the two girls with a simple grip on the bow. He then knelt down to the younger girl and gave her a stern talking to. Apollo laughed earnestly-it was amusing to see even Artemis' perfect students involved in a little conflict. He turned back to Selene;

"Do you want to walk around the grounds or something? If you can let me know what you think is here maybe I can guide you-or maybe it'll even strike a chord with my prophecies, so to speak."

Selene nodded, noting that her serious demeanor seemed to be unnerving Apollo.
"Right, I suppose a walk would do well." She said,walking with him. Part of her wanted to stay and watch the man Apollo had called Ed.
"Well, Ray, I had...a vision of sorts earlier. Or rather, I heard it. I was trying to figure out why I have been feeling so empty lately, when I happened to look out my window and see this field. At that moment, I don't know why, the name Endymion came into my mind. I assume you remember that little affair of mine?" She paused a moment to look across the grounds.
"For some reason I don't quite understand, I think that perhaps Endymion had reappeared, and I believe that he is here. Can you help me figure it out, Ray?" She asked, a tear escaping down her cheek. It was very rare for her to show any type of weakness, let alone tears.

Endymion...yes, Apollo remembered him well. The strong yet guarded shepherd that had so entranced Selene during her days in Greece. She was never quite the same after he passed on. He noticed suddenly that she was crying, and took her hand to comfort,

"I'll do my best Gem. I think cycles are coming again, and my instincts tell me it's very likely that Endymion has indeed come again," his eyes burned in the bright sunlight, "Now, who? It could be any of the parents of the students-some of them are alone in raising their child, it could be one of the staff, or even-"

"Ray!" Ed's smooth call from across the room snapped Apollo to action.

"What's up?"

"I know your sister's students like to use the range, but I don't think now is the best time," he strode past the now-sulking pair, "Trouble between the groups."

"No problem, Ed," Apollo stopped suddenly, his eyes widening in realization. Not meeting Selene's eyes, he turned, "I'll...go talk to her."

"Thanks, Ray," Ed noticed the gorgeous woman standing at the door, her dark brown eyes deep with sadness, "Sorry to interrupt, miss, the children can get a little rambunctious at times," his eyes strayed to the charm on her silver necklace, "The triple moon. May I ask if you are a High Priestess?"

Note: the Triple moon is a Wiccan symbol of the High Priestess. Associated with the moon, and with feminine power.

Selene was about to thank Apollo, when the man named Ed called out to him. She caught the realization in Apollo's tone as he answered, and her own eyes widened slightly. The man did look a bit like her lost love... She was so lost in thought, she almost missed his question.
"A High Priestess? No, I am not...though i nearly was, once. I decided against it, however. I was...young, and hoped to find fullfillment elsewhere in the world."

Ed nodded slowly, eyeing her bold appearance, "It is a strange path, though I feel more than anything that it is mine to walk," he felt very strongly about his beliefs, and didn't hesitate to let anyone know.

Ed displayed his strong left hand, adorned with several ornate rings. The middle finger presented a tarnished silver ring with a triple spiral carved in it, "I myself favour the triskele, for its...cyclical properties. I haven't introduced myself. My name is Ed, and this is my school of archery," he offered her his left hand.

Selene took his hand and shook it.
"It's nice to meet you,Ed. I'm Gemini. I must say, I do admire this place. I once practiced archery myself, though not for long. I'm not nearly as good as Ray here. But i can certainly appreciate the beauty of a field of practice." she said, letting go of his hand reluctantly. It was rough, but warm and somehow familiar.

"Well, it was nice to meet you...Gemini," Ed smiled warmly, "If you ever decide to pick up the art again, we have our adult drop-in clases tomorrow every week." He headed over to relieve his co-workers.

Ray jogged over hurriedly to Gemini, a mischievious gleam in his eyes, "So that's Ed. Does he...remind you of anyone you're looking for?" he glanced back at Suzanna, who seemed annoyed by his attention to Selene.

Selene blinked and looked over at Apollo.
"Ray, I think he's the one. I think that's him." She said in the most bemused voice she had ever used. She shook her head to clear it and smiled at Apollo.
"I think I just might join that adult class, Ray. How much is it to join?" She asked with a mischievous smile.

Apollo was slightly disarmed and delighted by her sudden cheer. She seemed almost-like him, in a way. His thoughts took a momentary lapse as he considered poetry, then he came to reply:

"I'm so glad, Gem. From what I know about him he's a great guy. Just...be careful, with these mortals," he caught Suzanna's eye who motioned impatiently. He chuckled;

"I should know. The adult class is $18 a session. Hope you have...fun," he winked and her and resumed helping Suzanna with the young girls, giving her an affectionate glance and speaking lightly of a few reasurrances about his cousin. She seemed pacified, but still wary. These mortals, he thought fondly, They are proud, loving, hateful, jealous, and content, all in an instant. It suits well because their life passes in an instant.

Ray Hawksley reveled in the sun and checked his watch subtly. Three more hours of classes till his date. But what was time like that to an immortal?

...and it's too bad. I thought we really had a good story going with the Oracle. I hope she comes back ))
