This refers to those who have served their time. Also, should special considerations be given for certain factors, like age when crime was committed or their specific role in the crime?

What are your thoughts?

I guess I never understood why it was taken from them in the first place so I don't have much to say on the subject.

Well, you could ponder about why we feel the need to remove them in the first place, I guess. I think it's because they're trying to make them less of a citizen. By taking away their voting rights they're less human.

yes, after some period of time. i mean, they should be still punished as convicted felons but after they reform their opinion shouldn't be silenced.

being forced to be silent would make anyone angry, and the whole point of them integrating back into society would be contradicted if they weren't given the basic right to vote.

I really think that it's kind of stupid to take it away from them, actually.

Why would their past crimes have anything to do with their political views? There's absolutely no harm done voting for the person who leads the country.

I think the reason their voting rights were taken away was because they might vote in "felon friendly" laws, and when you think about it, there are a lot of felons...So if the numbers added up...Welllll, they could "rock the vote" so to speak.

I'm not really sure...But I think I'd say only after they served their time in full and then 10 years, and then voting right should be restored.
Because 10 years is enough time, I think, to pull yourself out of the gutter, and into something better, or to get sent back to jail.

I definitely think they should be given back. I agree that there's not much of a point in taking it in the first place. If they've served their time, and they've reformed, now they're trying to live normally in society. One of the basic rights of citizens is the right to vote. If they're living normally in society, and are being told to behave like the other citizens, shouldn't they be treated like them? Even if they did commit a crime in their past, they were already punished for it. Besides, this is still their country, and they are still affected by whoever leads it. They should at least have as much of a say in the matter as everyone else.

But, monstahh' does have a point about the 10 years thing..

I don't think they should lose the right to vote in the first place. I think fellons should be urged to vote and get to know politics.
Often criminals feel not a part of the society and voting is the easiest way to make an impact for common people.

It should be based on what they done but rights like voting should be restored the minute they are released.

I think it should be based on what they have done and like monstahh said I think they should take in to the account of how long ago it happen.

You hurt people, kids, men, women, even extreme animal crimes, whoever, you took away that person's rights, so why should I be concerned with yours? You smoke pot and get over 11/30 then you are the least of my worries though the government would like me to believe otherwise. I think if you keep your record clean you should be able to come back to the liiiight, so to speak. ;) Again, those who have done extreme, cruel crimes, I honestly don't care if you get your rights back. I know some people get thrown in the clink for stuff they didn't do and if they are found innocent they need their rights back ASAP. People found guilty, not so much.
