OK, who else moved out on their own, experienced the wonder of independence, then had to move back home when they ran out of money?

Well, I am back home for at least the third time. I turned 25 last month and I feel like a giant loser.

Anyone out there happier after they moved back home? I would love to hear some positives. I can't think of any other than financial ones. Everything else is a pretty big fart of a negative.

When I was 14 - 16 I was living with a guardian (who was always drunk, so it was like he was never home) and then when I moved back with my parents at 16, it was quite strange getting used to having someone expect me to do things they asked lol Then I moved away for Uni for 3 years and got a job after, so I was living away for about 5 years, doing my own thing. Then they bought a holiday complex and offered me a job. Since I hated the job I was doing (travel agent), I said okay and moved back with them.
It's been weird.
The job's great, living with parents again is strange, but living and working with parents is kind of like some kind of cruel and unusual punishment LOL
We get along most of the time, and thankfully the place is big enough that we have our own space, but unlike a 9-5 job where you get away at the end of the day, here you get hassled at all hours of day and night. If something needs doing, it has to be done, which I do understand, but I really don't need to be called everytime they can't remember where they put the coffee >.<
My dad's fairly laid back and we get along most of the time, apart from when he's being so laid back that he's not pulling his weight with work.
My Mum's ...feisty. Yes. Hard work dealing with her a lot of the time. But she can be lovely.
I do miss having my own life though. They get more of a life than I do, as they go away often to see my sisters kids and go on vacation. I stay here looking after the dog and the business. Then again, when they go away, it's like a vacation for me :D

Thank you for your post, Ebil, it is really nice to hear your experience.

I hear you about the working AND living at home. I go to work thinking, "Lalalala, I am such a good girl and productive member of society!" only to come home to find out there were at least five chores I forgot about doing and my mom left the oven on all day and it's my fault for not checking. :XD

But oh my goodness am I grateful that my parents like to travel. Yes, I stay to house-sit and look after the pets, but it truly does feel like a vacation! I get to used to the empty house, though, then they come back... :stare: Haha, I am probably just spoiled. I truly am grateful to have a place to live, I just wish things were a bit more perfect.

Don't do that!

Move in with me, jeez.

Man, I'd hate to move back in my with family. ugh. just thinking about it makes me feel like a shitball.

Srsly, move in with me. I promise i wont let my friends touch you inappropriately.

I don't think that people should move back in with their parents after they've moved out.

my sister moved back in wit our parents after a few years of living down south florida , there wasn't really a point in her staying she had finished school and her job was tough and barely covered rent so now she is back home its like i left (staying with my sunt and uncle) and she came home. but i shall be going back home in december i litteraly never moved out though im basicly just here doing my thing and volunteering at the elementary school every once and a while. but i don't think i would leave my parents any time soon (just graduating in 2010) and if i did i wouldnt be to far from there to start off i like my parents they are fun :P

i've been living out of home since i was 14.
but i did have a similar experience with moving to Japan for the second time.

it's so expensive to live in the cities there that i only managed to stay four months the second time i went, and then had to use the last of my money to get a flight back to NZ.
it was quite depressing and i felt like a complete failure for a long time afterwards.
