Derivative work is allowed to be sold, as long as it is not claiming to be the work of the original producer. While this is a very sketchy translation of copyright law, I don't think anyone is harmed by it. It seems to be the generally agreed-upon translation. I haven't gotten into trouble yet for selling my Nightmare Before Christmas prints...>>

Remember that whole noise about the iconic photo of Obama being vectored and recolored, but because it belonged to like... New York Times or something, the artist got in trouble for making money off of that derivative work?

The official law, I think, is that it has to have at least a 40% difference from the original work to be able to be sold. The problem there is, what constitutes a difference between 40% and 10%? Its all subjective.

I do all artwork for no sale, just for myself, so I don't run into those issues
