So I'm getting married soon and I have a picture in my head for a dream wedding gown XD But now I have to send in sketches and or pictures to the shop for them to get an idea of cost etc. I'm not the greatest artist but I do want to be able to convey a clear idea of what I mean. Thanks in advance on any advice or comments you have. I LOVE red lines if anyone is willing with time to do one >.< but I understand most people don't, any kind of comment or advice is all I'm really looking for.
This first one was more illustrative but I used a fashion pose from one of my old drawing books for the model and it looks really odd, but I think all the details of the dress are there...?
but it still bothered me so I decided to do a much more artsy one. This one is FREAKING MASSIVE because I like to do my drawing super huge so I'm able to get in lots of little details, and then when everything is perfect (or as perfect as I can get it) then I'll shrink it down to a normal size. The background is really just supposed to be kind of a surrealist suggestion. I only really want comments on if it's quick and easy XP or if it's driving you absolutely nuts (Yes I will fix the two eraser spots!) I'm still doing a bit of cleaning up over the hair/veil but I think after that it's just fine tuning and I'd like advice before then >.<
I'm using : the oC 1.1 (the free one!) and a poor old tablet that my kittes use for napping/landing so it's abused and can be hard to get a smooth line :(

Congratulations Bound Birdie!! :eager: I love it when I hear someone is getting married!
Those are some really cool drawings! What is it that you are asking in particular? I didn't seem to catch that.
And also, op 1.1.. is free? Like a downloadable one? I haven't seen that before. I should check it out :)

Thanks! It is super exciting. Just anything >.< I guess there not to bad if nothing pops out to you. I just wanted general comments.
Yes Open Canvas 1.1 is a very nice simple FREE program. It dosen't even take up much room on your computer and downloads in a few seconds. You can get it here if you want to give it a try. It has a super cool feature where it records your drawing so you can watch yourself drawing it later. It's nice to pinpoint mistakes.

*glomps Birdie* First off I love you! MARRY ME!! jk
I like the dress. The sleeves are a little confusing the dress, body and skirt seem easy to understand. The head piece is . . . I'm not sure. A bonnet, a cone or a veil?

It's a veil but I like the one that drape over your head (like a cape hood) and have it held to one of the medevil tiras that peaks down on your forehead instead of a big poof ball in the back of my head.
The sleeves are detached and are the big flowing angel sleeves >.< They lace in the back where they'll hold on my arm. I like having everything laced up so it will be a perfect fit ....
I should probably post some of my inspiration photos

for the veil I'm not sure. I need to hunt for transparent is options (other then netting, something still soft) and then it will have the thick purple edging that will be whatever I end up using for the purple on the dress. If I have my way I'll be using mostly velvets and satins and I'll just use netting and old fashioned undies to keep the shape of the dress

That sounds really cool. It's gonna be neat seeing it come about. Is the back lace up?

Well at least you have a really good start. I think you might want to do a separate sketch of the sleeves cause that was the only thing I got kinda confused on.

I suppose. If it's to much though there's one I can get a davids bridal that's not nearly as cool but still has all the elements I want. I can get it during one of there $99 dollar sales.
Plus I'll give them some photos....
I do have the sleeves on a separate layer but I don't think it makes them much clearer

Cool site!
Drawing velvet is hard. It's a tricky fabric. I would look up tutorials online. Are you using a digital program or actually drawing it out with pencil?

Yeah I would look up a tutorial on how to do velvet. I don't have much knowledge about cloth in digital.

Sadly I must admit that I have no idea how to do velvet in digital, pencil or paint. I've avoided for the most part. Generally I do easy cloths that don't shine or anything.
Are you going to have stuff on the edge of your veil kinda like that one, it's kinda cool.

lol I can do shiny super easy, just leave that spot white! I guess velvet has a subtle sheen but it's the slightly fuzzy texture that I don't know where to begin with XD
I WANT that kind of edging but that veil was SO expensive and I would want it to match my dress, I do want lace or satin edging though definitely.

o.o That is one awesome looking wedding dress. But certain parts are confusing. Looking at the design of the torso, the lines (that make your waist skinnier and stop under the bust area. You might want to indict what exactly are those (ie: folds in the cloth, lace or even wire) Secondly, you might want to clarify where the 'corset' ends. Some might confuse it for right above the hip bone or the bellybutton area. Then the actual dress part. It appears to be just a plain skirt but that effect on actual dresses means there's going to something underneath to give it that smooth effect. If that's not what you wanted, you might want to draw folds in the dress to indict whether or not you want it pleated, lace, flairing or just loose. The sleeves could also pose a problem. From the picture, it seems that there is a part that's attached to your finger? But in the sketch, it's just the long sleeves. :)

OH. MAN.
I'm good at this stuff 8D
Now the base you've got is quite gorgeous, but it needs some detail work me thinks;
for a wedding dress, it's nothing actually too complicated to sew, with your main issue being keeping the bodice stiff, which would require either ribbing it or doing something fancy, else you can use something stretch and avoid that.
What kind of materials are you looking at?
Also, I would go with a lighter, more bluer purple for a touch of elegance
If you'd like, I could try and redraw it, adding in detail work Wingy draws like this
