Plot
Hogwarts: A New Era

The year is 2015, and although the battle of Hogwarts had ended almost 20 years earlier, that doesn't stop those from wanting to rule, and have subjugates. The Ministry of Magic, now run by a short, balding man named Journs, with the gut the size of a car, has denied the repeal of their horrible laws against humanoid creatures to have equal work and schooling.

An uprising is going on, magical, but humanoid creatures are demanding equal treatment. No longer do werewolves want to be denied work, or vampires have their wands snapped. Hogwarts, under the headmistress McGonnagal, has decided to carry on the great Dumbledore's work of equal opportunity to all, whether it be muggle borns or a goblin.

Other than that, things are pretty much normal around Hogwarts. Birds chirp, the Giant Squid swims, and kids get sorted into the four houses. The full humans at the school, not only have to deal with those that were raised by muggles, but now the sort of eccentric array of other human like creatures that roam the halls.

THREAD SPECIFIC RULES:

1) PM all profiles to [ NekoChan ] or myself, but only if Neko Chan doesn't respond.
2) Only four spaces are available for each race, all other students must be human.
3) You can have as many as three characters, as long as they aren't all female and aren't all a specific race.
4) All Mene rules apply, obviously
5) Violence and Romance, PG13 of course. Both are okay.
6) All characters may pick a race, including teachers
7) Literate to Semi-Literate please. You do not have to post a paragraph every time, but do your best.
8) Try to keep house numbers equal, I do not want 10 Slytherins and 1 Hufflepuff.
9) Please act canonly as possible for the house you're sorted in.
10) You MAY apply to be the child of the original HP characters, but they MUST BE canon pairings. Example: Harry/Ginny, Hermione/Ron. They must remain human.
11) If your human character becomes a special creature in RP, for example, gets attacked by a vampire and turned, you must let me know so I can update your character sheet and the creature numbers.

School-Wide Rules:

To protect the Human students some additional rules MUST be followed by all non-human creature. Failure to do so will result in an Expulsion. (If you get caught :P)

*Werewolf students must take the Wolfsbane potion. During the full moon, they must change in the Forbidden Forest.
*Vampire students cannot use any vampire powers other than those related to classwork. Nor can they drink blood from other students. They will be given a supply of blood substitute, that doesn't taste the same but is just as filling.
*Goblins must keep their goblin made heirlooms and weaponry in their dorm, packed away for safekeeping.
*Faeries will be protected from iron by a spell that the Headmistress has put on all iron in the school. Fae must keep their wings folded, and are not allowed to fly unless it is break time. No Fae may fly during a Quidditch match. Fae must stay glamored during class time.
*Centaurs MUST keep their hooves clean, as they are not subjected to the normal school uniforms. Special desks will be provided for you.
*Elves cannot use any Elven powers other than those related to classwork.

*All other normal school rules apply to all.

Tali was slowly growing bored. All the first years had been sorted and everyone has had plenty of time to eat their fill, but Headmistress McGonnagal still hadn't addressed the students. Absentmindedly, Tali corrupted the flames atop the candles decorating the tables. Every other flame became a bright icy-blue and ceased melting the wax, instead solidifying it immediately.

She recognized many of the students sitting at the tables, especially the Slytherins, Holly in particular. Most of the Slytherins treated Tali like dirt because she's a Wisp, and the only one at that, and small for her age. It really shouldn't matter that she was as large as a ten-year old, but when combined with her abnormal intelligence and the fact that she skipped two grades, it made her an easy target. It also didn't help that most of their parents were Ministry workers, and the Ministry treated her the same way, making it pretty much a learned behavior. Tali didn't know why, but Holly didn't really treat her like the other Slytherins did. She supposed she should be grateful though, and went back to what she had been doing.

The flames, both icy-blue and orange departed from their homes and rose into the air. Both colors of flame combined into a long tail of fire with the same color, creating two tails of fire, one icy-blue, the other orange, that circled each other in an intricate and captivating dance. They appeared to be alive, moving so as to avoid collisions, and changing colors to the House colors. Shortly afterwards, they dropped down low and snaked their way among the students dining at the House tables, though they gave off no heat or cold. Hopefully they wouldn't get her in trouble. There weren't any rules against a Wisp using their powers, after all, though that was probably due to the fact that Tali was the only one in existence. She continued to manipulate the flames' artful dance, all the while wishing that Headmistress McGonnagal would give her speech and dismiss them.

Marionette was sitting down in her usual spot and eating the last of her dessert. All there was to do was wait for the ever famous speech and they could hopefully go to bed. She was feeling a tad tired from the train ride here. Along with a few commotions from the first years. It had always been amusing to see their reactions to food popping up from nowhere. And the talking hat. She noticed how the flames from the candles had stopped moving, and raised an eyebrow. Already there was a few pranks being played. She had to wonder for a moment who it was. The motions of the flames were rather pretty. Most of the first years were having a small fit about how all of a sudden the flames were moving of their own accord. She almost smiled. It almost seemed like it would be part of the welcome act.

Almost silver eyes giving a quick scope of the tables, she noticed a girl from her own table who didn't seem at all surprised, as most were, by the flames strange behavior. She chuckled a little, shrugging. The flames weren't harming anyone. And it did provide some entertainment. She almost reached out to touch one which came close to her side but decided not to. Instead, she took a cookie and nibbled on it idly. She had to ask the girl how it was done. But for some reason, she believed it couldn't be too simple. The girl didn't even have her wand out. At least from what she could see. The display by now, having found out they weren't going to harm anyone, was being watched in awe by a few of the students.

Lavi was half a sleep by time the flames started to dance around, but him being who he was, well he didn't worry about them at all, even though nearly everyone around him was freaking out, he just yawned and lazily ate what was left on his plate. The green eyed boy looked around the room on more, seeing the girl at Slytherin and his eye met the girl sitting at Ravenclaw before he looked over at Gryffindor.
Lavi switched the eye patch from the eye it was on to the other eye before he reached a hand up to adjust the beanie with cat ears on it, other people normally don't wear hats because it wasn't part of the uniforms but he got his father to ask if he could, considering the fact that he had some markings that he did not want anyone to see. The funny thing about his hat is that the ears actually moved and emphasized with his expressions. Like at the moment the ears were partially laying flat on his head, showing that he was either tired or being his normal lazy self, but that didn't stop one ear from perking up and flicking around as he payed close attention to what was going on around him.

Cory was sitting at the Ravenclaw table, running his tongue over his fangs and staring around at the other students. He was so scared to be around people, but McGonnagal had assured him that he was welcome. This was hardly his first year at Hogwarts, he was indeed a 7th year. However, all the previous years had been much different for him. This was his first year of school since 'The change'. Back when he was growing up, he was quite reclusive, holding onto his books as his only friend, now though, he found himself WANTING to have friends and meet people, maybe other people, maybe other people like him that had their lives so changed in the blink of an eye.

He noticed a small girl sitting at the same table with him, and raised a brow, she seemed too young to go to Hogwarts. He shrugged to himself and waited for the Headmistress to address the students, trying to make himself seem friendly if someone were to glance over.

Tali looked around, focusing more on her table this time. She noticed a girl study her for a moment with silverish eyes, and realized that the girl had found out who was behind the flames. Tali smiled nervously, half-afraid they were going to call her out as a Wisp, something she really didn't need, especially so soon. It wasn't like everyone excepting the first-years knew, but it was still the principle of the matter. Thankfully, she seemed more curious than malicious, reaching out to a passing flame before pulling her hand back. After reaching this conclusion, and visibly relaxing, Tali felt that she was the object of another person's inspection and looked up the table. She saw a boy, Cory if she remembered right, which she always did, studying her. He seemed a little nervous too, but still curious. Tali gave him a small smile, being her usual friendly self and trying to ease his discomfort. She gestured to the flames as if to say, "Pretty, huh?" before looking up herself.

After the excitement of meeting up with old friends, walking through the great hall, and the shorting of first years- 10 new total- all Holly wanted to do was crawl into and sleep. Possibly for days but she would settle for a few good hours.As it was everyone had to wait for Mcgonnagal to star her welcoming speech and dismiss them.Gray-blue eyes glanced over at the Ravenclaw table when the flames began their color show before her attention was one again grabbed by the conversation around her. The two Slytherin girls in front of her where arguing over the cuteness of the sixth year Prefect, who though she agreed was pretty cute had the personality of a soap dish. Holly didn't bother putting her two cents in on the matter though. Experienced showed that when their taste where questioned the twins got a little over excited and she was far to tired to deal with them at the moment. So instead she cracked open her Transfiguration book and hoped her fellow Slytherin's got the message that she wanted to be left alone.Normally the fifteen year old witch was friendly when approached but after a summer of sleeping in the early morning drive to the train station- and all the the train ride to Hogwarts included- had left her tired and irritable. The squealing coming from the first year students wasn't making matters any better.

Marionette saw that the girl caught her eye and she smiled back, winking a little. She had no intentions on ratting her out. She brushed back a strand of hair and sighed softly. It seemed she was not the only bored person there. There was another boy with an odd kitty eared hat. It was cute and she almost wanted to stand up and poke them. Just to see if they were as soft as they appeared. Realizing this would be rude however, she resisted and turned her attention back to her cookie. She wasn't sitting so far away from the girl, but still a couple of students in between them. She glanced over at the flames again curious as to how they were made. They weren't hot at all.

Professor McGonnagal rose from the teachers table, her green billowing cloak whipping out behind her. She pushed her spectacles up the bridge of her nose, and cleared her throat as she reached the podium. As she waited for the chatter to calm down, she smiled, albeit somewhat severely, and looked at each house table in turn, almost as if she was looking at each child's soul individually. "Welcome to another fantastic year at Hogwarts" She stated, lifting her arms out as if to hug the whole room.

"I am Headmistress McGonnagal, and you will address me as such." She seemed to pause for dramatic effect, her eyes sweeping over the old and new students alike. "Now some of you might have been baffled by the sorting. I am sorry if this is so, but as we have quite a few older students who are allowed to attend Hogwarts now, it would be within your best interest to accept them into your various friend groups as if they were here since the beginning." She moved from her podium, looking at the other teachers seated at the table, pausing as if leaving an opening for them to speak. However they remained stoic, so she continued.

"Some of you already know of the changes here at Hogwarts recently, but for those who don't, I shall update you briefly. First off, you may notice some classmates of yours displaying some un-wizardly like powers. Do not be alarmed. You know that we are in the midst of quite a Ministry uprising, with the non-wizarding magical community up in arms about the mistreatment of their kind." She looked up to the students again, adjusting her pointed hat and keeping a close eye so that no trouble maker decided to talk over her. "You must all remember, like the witches and wizards of the past, that it doesn't matter what race you are, or what blood you come from, or if you have magical powers. It only matters what's in your hearts, and I believe in carrying on late Headmaster Albus Dumbledore's noble work of equal education for all." She stopped again, looking on with a slight crooked smile on her face.

"Now, the new additional school rules are posted in your common rooms. I recommend you become very familiar with them, regardless of your views on the current situation. If you have any questions, I suggest you ask now." She finished with a flourish of her hand, as if opening the floor for any questions.

Tali turned back towards the girl with the strange silver eyes, still wary that she'd call her out. She'd gotten plenty of that in her three years of Hogwarts. Tali figured it'd be best to talk with the other girl, so as to make absolutely certain that she didn't do something that would make the next few weeks miserable. With a mental command, the flames that had been by the girl made their way over to where Tali was sitting before she climbed on top and ordered them back, riding them like a cloud. She poked the girl to get her attention and, when the students next to her slid away from her due to her status as a Wisp, sat down next to her. She leaned over to the girl and asked, "You won't yell out that I'm a Wisp, will you? I don't really want the first-years hating me so early in the school year," in hushed tones, trying to keep the specified people from overhearing her.

Cory looked over at Tali and nodded. He was still getting used to being talked to like a regular human again, and it comforted him. He was going to ask her what her name was, but sadly, he lost his nerve. He might be more social now, but he was still shy as hell when it came to people his own age. He watched her silently, her flame play making him a bit nervous, but fascinated. What if she missed and hit him? He would go up in flames for sure. He leaned back and tried to relax, concentrating on the odd school year he was bound to have.

As the mysterious girl left the table, he cursed himself allowed. Why couldn't he have had the bravery of Gryffindors? Then maybe he wouldn't be so damn lonely all the time.

Marionette blinked, glancing back at a poke. Surprisingly the girl was there. Once she heard the question the girl grinned a little, amused by the idea of her thinking she would rat someone out like that, she shook her head. "Of course not." she said softly in return. Her voice had a french accent, but she tried not to make it noticeable. At least she pronounced things correctly. She still did not know too much of Wisps, if anything. She wanted to ask what it was, and she probably could have the time once this was over. Her eyes went over to the headmistress, listening to what she said. So that would explain some things. She would have no problem with the new rules, nor the new students. She smiled again, once she thought Headmistress McGonagall. "My name is Marionette. What is yours?"

"Oh. My name is Tali," Tali replied, cheerful at the confirmation that she wasn't going to have to deal with those pesky stares that the wizards and witches always seemed to give her. "You know, the one and only Wisp, though the Ministry probably didn't give me a name. They don't really like me all that much. You can go ahead and touch the flames by the way; they're harmless." Her accent was hard to place, seeming to be a blend of American and Hispanic accents, almost like somebody who grew up in America speaking both English and Spanish fluently. If anyone were to pry deeper, they would find that her lineage actually originated with the marriage of an Aztecan prince and a Mayan princess. Her family was like many of the Slytherins in that they wouldn't marry anyone that wasn't of Mayan or Aztecan descent, insuring that she was completely Aztecan and Mayan, though an American citizen. That was actually the reason she had to move to England; her paternal family hated her father for having a child with a phoenix, who was obviously not of Mayan or Aztecan descent. "So, your from France?" Tali asked Marionette, trying to keep the conversation going. "At least, I recognize the accent, though I suppose you don't actually have to be from France to have a French accent."

She tilted her head before nodding. She again, was slightly confused at the name she took on. "What is a Wisp, exactly?" she asked curiously. Of course, she still was polite about it. It was somewhat embarrassing asking such a thing, but she didn't know. She liked the accent that Tali had, not something one encountered in these parts anymore. She reached out and touched one of the flames, unable to resist. "Is this one of your abilities?" she asked, glancing over at the girl. "Ah, yes, I am. I moved here not too many years ago, my family decided to move here on the count of the education." she replied, smiling.

Travis had paid attention to the speech, not really caring for the whole thing with new students. Everyone could come and go if they wanted. It was nothing too different from what he was used to. Just, adding different races of magical beings instead of races of muggles. He laid his head back down. The flames were slightly interesting, but he lost it after a moment. Thankfully, he heard the Headmistress speak, so he stopped drinking a slushy and looked up, golden eyes showing he was both bored, and slightly tired. The way here had tired him out and he was perfectly ready to fall asleep.

"The Ministry just labeled me with Wisp because a creature like me never existed before," Tali began, trying to be interesting. "I'm completely a wizard and a phoenix, like a regular wizard is a human too. Unlike most phoenixes however, my natural form is humanoid. All phoenixes can change into humans, while still being phoenixes, as I'm sure you know. Well, when a phoenix turns into a human and has a baby, they die because they pass the fire of life inside them onto their offspring, which means that I never met my mom. That's the reason most phoenixes avoid human contact; they risk falling in love otherwise. Regardless, I have all of the powers of a phoenix and a wizard. Papa often told me not to be afraid to cry when I was little because my tears heal any wound. I can travel through flames, sing, and lift a lot more than I should be able to because I'm a phoenix. Unfortunately, that's why the Ministry is afraid of me; my mom was a powerfully magical being that had a child with another powerfully, though not as much so, magical being, so I am therefore dually powerful when it comes to magic, though my control over fire and ice is because I'm a phoenix, not magic. This made them brand me with a tattoo they can use to hurt me. I'll show it to you tonight in the Common Room,\ if you're interested, okay? They also placed a physical regression curse on me; I'm supposed to shrink down to the size of a one-year old because of it. Papa stopped it though. Well, he didn't actually stop it because it was cast by thirteen wizards linking magic, which makes it unbreakable, but he did weaken it pretty good. Now it won't stop until I'm the size of a six-year old, but I suppose that's better than being an infant. I'm sorry if I bored you to death, but you asked." This last bit was said with a giggle and a bright smile from the smaller girl, who eagerly awaited a response from their new friend.

Lyra's eyes had widened a little. "Oh my.." she muttered. It was not the way to treat anyone. She knew some of the things that Tali had spoken of, but had never actually head of anyone being able to mate with a phoenix. And this was the result. It was sad that her mother had died to make her, but it did make sense. She nodded, thinking about it. "Well..That is rather useful, but I'd say not to cry. It doesn't matter if they're useful or not, nobody should cry. Unless it is from happiness." she said, smiling softly and looking at her almost playfully. She was a rather powerful being, thus why she knew the reasoning behind the ministry's actions. Even if they were rather hasty. She did want to see the tattoo, and the curse also explained on how young she seemed to look. "You did not bore me." she assured Tali, grinning softly. "I'm surprised, but it is nothing bad. I suppose looking like a six year or is better than a baby, it's true." She felt sad about that though. That was, yet again unfair. "How long til you reach this age, and how old are you really?"
