There are many different systems out there now but the most notable are the Kindle and the Nook.
So which do you guys like?
Anyone here have one of them?
Pros and cons of them?
Are they easy to read?
Able to find good books?
Do they make your eyes hurt/ cause headaches?

We have been thinking about buying one for my mother's birthday and I was wanting to hear what people on here say about them.

Hmn... I have to say I am NOT a fan of e-Readers, but I would have to go with a Nook. Better system, cheaper/cheaper books, and lots more free ones if you don't have much money after buying it.

Cons: Battery life... not as good as a book. XD Also, you eyes REALLY hurt after a while.

Pros: Cheaper in the long run and takes up much less space.

Really I'm not either. You can tell since I currently own more then 500 books, which are in my room.
But it would be great for my mom. She's a nurse and it would just be so much easier for her to take one of these then books with her.

Do you own a Nook or have you used one before?
Have you been able to compare it to other types?

I use iBooks on the iPhone. I used to use Kindle, but my phone is obviously easier for me since I always have it on me. It's easy to read, lots of books and short stories, love the layouts and features. :)

I probably wouldn't mind using a phone (if I had one that was able to do it) but the font would be way too small for my mom.

Did you like the Kindle?

You can actually adjust the font size in iBooks. (: It's really nice. I believe you can get it on an iTouch or an iPad as well.

I liked it pretty well, yeah. I liked it more than a book because I could multitask and wouldn't have to worry so much about keeping the pages open, you know? The downside was that I found the books too expensive for me and it was a bit too big. Another downside is that the room you're reading in has to be very well-lit, because the Kindle doesn't have a backlight. Sometimes that made it difficult for me as well.

That's nice. One of the nice things about e-books is that the font can change.
We were talking about an i-Pad but their just so expensive.

I bet not worrying about pages would be nice. (for me it would be I get crazy about dog-earring and stuff)
The books seem to be all over on prices. Some are the same as if you bought the actual book, others a few cents cheaper, some dollars cheaper, and a few free.

We were actually able to see the smallest of the Kindles and it was about the perfect size for her.
And really after reading Stephen King books nothing could be too big. lol
hm... I thought that was one of the nice things about it. I would hate to have to add lighting to be able to see it.

I got my iPad used on Craigslist for $90. Hehe, I sound like an Apple salesman.

Anyways! Look around. E-readers are all pretty pricey, so make sure you make the most educated decision you can. :)

Really? That's not too bad.
Maybe we'll look into that more.
My step-dad has been pushing us more towards that anyways.

They really are.
That was one of the reasons for this thread.
I mean you can read all the reviews you want to but I like talking to the people much more you know?

my husband bought me a nook color for christmas and I have to say I love it, it hardly ever leaves my side.

pros: you can adjust the coloring of the page to light or dark depending on the lighting of the setting you're in so that it is easier on your eyes, you can adjust the font size to make it easier if you are having issues seeing the words, you can also adjust the brightness of the background for ease on your eyes. you don't have to buy your ebooks from their store you can download them via torrents and add them to your ebook with ease.

cons: the screen has a glare on it if you're reading outside but you can buy a screen thing you can put on it to reduce that {not sure how well it works as I didn't spend the extra money on it} the battery life kinda sucks on it but for all the stuff you can do with it it is only a minor hurdle for me at least.

supposedly there are going to apps you can download for it from the android store since if does run on the android software but that hasn't been released yet.

That's cool to hear.
I haven't really read or heard much about the Nook since I'm more of an amazon person.

yeah I chose the nook because it had the color screen while the kindle didn't

That would be nice.
Though not sure how much that would do for us since we just read books (no magazines and no pictures).

oh definitely, it's also nice that ebooks are cheaper than a lot of the paperback and hardcover books.
