FFVI hands down. I mean, it's really no contest. None has ever drawn me in the way that one has. As for favorite character, totally Shadow. Who doesn't love badass ninjas?

I used to be crazy about the Final Fantasy franchise but as the games got worse and worse *cough*VIII*cough* I stopped paying much attention to them and went back to my true love, Dragon Quest.

Srsly? VIII put you off? VIII was one of my favorites of the series! Squall and Zell are my favorite characters, and admittedly Rinoa is a good counter to Squall's loner persona. The characters themselves are all really good, I think that's why I like it.

But god, if there was one reason - ONE REASON - to hate Final Fantasy VII, it had to be Yuffie Kisaragi. T_T Top of the list on my "most annoying party members". Everyone else, absolute badasses. Yes, even dark and lonely Vincent Valentine. Even being the way he is, I can't blame him with the kind of backstory he has. Dirge of Cerberus was a perfect redemption for him (if it wasn't for the damn levels though. Ya can't just get to level 99 and stay there! >:\)

Final Fantasy X was full of great characters. Tidus may have been a bit of a wuss in the beginning, but going up against his dad the way he did, not as an enemy but as a son trying to rescue his father from his fate, was awesome. I guess we can all thank Auron and Yuna for the way Tidus turned out, Auron's badassness rubbed off pretty well, and Yuna was his lover - she's always inspiration.

yuffie was never annoying to me she was very spunky and in VII she had great attack power even in the backrow so she took less damage.

ff 8 was shit because of the gameplay the drawing powers, enemies leveling up as squall does, and the ever popular theory that ff8 after disc 1 never happened

basically at the end of disc one squall dies or falls asleep or w/e and the rest on from disc 2 - 4 or is it 3? dunno anyway the rest after 1 was just a dream as in it never happened which is kind of a slap in the face to any fans of the game.

ff X was not a bad game but it wasnt that amazing either tidus was annoying as hell always whining about how its his story and such he was just bleh. auron made the game enjoyable so did rikku for her funniness. ffx was way to easy though the last boss was so simple I beat it in like 4 hits without overleveling. very easy game also the ending story of tidus being a figment of the faiths imagination was stupid as hell to me. then in X-2 if you get the true good ending he comes back oh gee thanks for bringing him back when he doesn't show up since then in that timeline. dissidia doesnt count as its an alternate thing.

I still consider FFIX to be the best one ever for its gameplay story and comedy aside from kefka that guy was just great lol.

ffix went back to the routes of ff and did it even better the story kept you hooked and quina just kept leaving the party as the game went on and you had to go back and get him/her it was kind of annoying to me but I did it every chance I got cuz it was the best char with all blue magic lol. anyways IX is actually better than 7 to me or any others.

dirge of cerberus wasnt a bad game persay it was just tooo easy i mean autolockon you could beat the game almost without even having to use your gun and just meleeing everything gameplay was not that good storywise it was awesome.

I feel FFVIII wasn't all that bad, it was set up a lot like VII honestly in my opinion. My one put off with me Squall's over-emoness in the beginning, and Rinoa. I have no idea why, but Rinoa annoys me ._.

IX was EPIC, and I've stated why earlier, so I'll skip that

X was good, but in my opinion, waaaay less detailed and much shorter than the older ones. It just didn't live up to it's name...

But 12 and 13..... Wingless says they were pretty meh. Good games by themselves, but to call them up to final fantasy standard? BLEH.

I also liked Dirge of Cerebus. It was great to learn more about my favorite character, while also playing a 3rd person Shooter, which is something I hadn't done before. While I enjoyed the gameplay, I can understand if from a person who plays a lot of FPS and shooters if it was annoying, as it was set up for RPGers and people new to shooters

I hated everything about FF VIII. Shit characters, one of the stupidest plots in any game I have ever played, and boring as hell. I have never been more disappointed in a game.

Then I think you're looking at it the wrong way. There's nothing wrong with enemies getting stronger as the player does, it adds a welcome challenging element to the game. It also shows that as time passes (time here being represented by your character's levels rising) the world around you grows stronger as well, which enforces the need for Guardian Forces. Though, I can agree that some character did have their annoying moments (especially Rinoa and Selphie).

And how was the plot stupid? I'd like to hear a few reasons for that, legitimate reasons that put up a good debate. Whether you find the game boring or not, that much I can't fight you on. How a person feels is how a person feels. There's reason behind judgment, though, and I'd like to know the reasons that make the plot stupid.

the main killer of plot for me was it never actually happened and was only a dream it really does seem that way.

Definitely boring though the first thing that made me actually put my head in my hands and groan was the whole bit where they had all been in the same orphanage and shit. I mean, how cheesy can you get? Sure, I get that with an rpg it's basically impossible to avoid cheese and cliches but really? Maybe it's because I've come to expect great things from the franchise but that was some straight bullshit.

And I have to agree with Obviously.

*SPOILER ALERT AHEAD*
It wasn't a dream. I don't know where you got that idea, unless you're only talking about the parts where Ellone takes back Squall and his allies to relive moments of Laguna, Kiros, and Ward's lives. Beyond those few segments, I don't see how any of it was a dream, especially because those segments actually happened to Laguna's crew and were only seen as dreams to the people who saw them because of Ellone.

You're groaning because they, except Rinoa, all grew up in the same orphanage? This game was released in the late 90's, cliche's riddled games back then. Hell, even Final Fantasy VII had plenty cliche's. Main hero carrying a sword (like always)? Check. Main hero has somewhat tortured past (happens unbelievably often)? Check. I could go on and on about this one, the ones before it, and the ones after it. But the fact that they all grew up in the same orphanage is what throws you off? THAT'S the one cliche that bothers you the most? Nonono, it's not that the primary villain in the first part of the game appears to be the maternal figure of their past, nor the fact that it turns out she is only being possessed by some evil figure FROM THE FUTURE, but the fact that they mostly spent their past together, utilized forces that gave them enough power to save their world at the expense of their memories, and completely forgot about it. Yes. Positively the most cheesy part of this game. Indeed. Absolutely. :\

In case you missed it, I specified that example as the first time I had an actual physical reaction to it. Don't get your knickers in a bunch.

no there are many indications that happen notice the first disc everything is all fine and dandy then when squall passes out at the end of disc 1 lets look at the facts

read this site it has ALOT of good points showing it never actually happened after disc 1

It's a good theory, but Square Enix themselves say it's non-canon. 'Sides, yeah that shard struck him in the upper part of his body, but it went through the right side of his chest. Fatal in most cases, but Squall healed right up. Whether from magic or naturally (magic makes more sense because, hey, it's magic. The kinda stuff you throw anywhere and turn everything to lollipops or cinders 83).

Here's another theory. Rinoa was standing right there on the sidelines, she could've healed him regardless of whether you'd given her cure spells or not (might as well, she kinda seems like the magic type doesn't she?). If they're all going to be captured and interrogated or whatnot, why not allow that to happen? Plus, Ultimecia knew Rinoa had sorceress potential, would she force Rinoa to not heal Squall and risk harming her? Whether that's right or not, it makes more sense then "oh well everything after disk 1 never happened, hur hur. Squall's still breathin'." Also, if everything didn't happen after Squall got stabbed, then why were there SeeD's? I don't think a maternal figure would allow her orphans to grow up into mercenaries without reason. So yeah, no.

@Vix Viral: Well the main reason for that rant was because that seemed like the entire point of your five sentence post. Just to say "aww the main characters all grew up together, that's bullshit".

I specified that it was one of the first things that hit me - if you ignore the fact that none of the characters are even remotely interesting - to avoid being misinterpreted but read it as you will. I have no control over your perception and processing.

Just saying, it wasn't the cheesiest thing in-game. To me, Irvine was absolutely made of cheese! XD Bloody cowboy trying to move in on everything that moves.

square actually has left it up to us to decide what happened. that theory makes the most sense out of anything on ff8 so much evidense that its a dream plus the whole flashing back to the ending of disc 1 with him falling. it explains so much of the plot holes in the storyline and it really seems like that. whether it was meant to be like that who knows but its a HUGE amount of coincidense espescially the last fight with ultimecia saying her lines that are eerie. at the end of the game squall finally rests in peace. it was kind of a dumb way to end it but I truly believe thats the gist of the story. it never happened.

I've beaten most of the FF games. All except for FFIX, which I am playing right now. Then there is also FFXIII...I have a file that is gathering dust on my guy's Xbox 360 hard drive...I just can't get into that game for some reason. I hope the next one to come out, gives me a plot to care about and towns to interact with. I haven't really played much on FFXI cause it was online and I didn't want to pay for it lol. I just recently started playing FFXIV, which I'm enjoying a lot so far. I just redid my character to be on a different server so at the moment, I'm only a level 6 Archer and a level two Alchemist, but I plan on becoming a Weaver too soon.

As for my favorite characters...FFIII- Onion Knight
FFIV - Prince Edward
FFVII - Vincent, Sephiroth, Aerith, Cloud, Zack, Cid
FFVIICC - Zack, Sephiroth
FFVIII - Irvine, Squall
FFIX - Vivi
FFX - Rikku,Auron, Wakka, Lulu
FFX-2 - Rikku, Wakka, Lulu
FFXII - Balthier
FFXIII - Storm
So yep, those are all of mine. I ship so many FF characters...I'm sure I forgot someone lol. ^_^
