@ Hyena: That's how it always goes with books that are made into movies. Another example of movie version of books is Eragon. The book was far better than the movie. I think as a general rule the books are better than the movies simply because there's more in the books that just doesn't show up in the movies.

I never read Eragon, but from what I hear the books weren't exactly great. I mean, they're fantastic when you consider that he was only fifteen when he started getting published, but you can see where he drew his inspiration from and for me that kind of kills a book. >>

Meh. I really kind of like the Inheritence cycle. Course, I don't like it nearly as much as I like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Harry Potter. <3
I really like the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Its odd, quirky, and full of puns.

If you like humor rooted in more traditional ideas of myths, its a good series. He likes to play on character development through humorous dialogue. Very easy to read.

Hm, I might check it out then. My university's campus library has a comic version of the first book, so I might check it out when I'm done with the Atherton and Keys to the Kingdom series of books.

I love the discworld books. I'm almost finished reading all of the Rincewind books. Then of course for a tour de force you can read "Good Omens" which is co-authored by Terry Prattchet, and Neil Gaiman.
I liked the first Ergon book alright, but not the second as much. If look at some of the things that were going on in there... It's kind of creepy.
Oh I'm on Wendsday for keys to the Kingdom. I so need to finish it. XD
Know what book/movie breaks the "book is better than the movie" problem? "The Princess Bride" both the movie, and the book are awesome for thier own reasons. Of course I think that it helps that Willam Goldman wrote both the book, and the screen-play.

I'm on Saturday for Keys to the Kingdom. I managed to get ahead of vgrace.
I agree with Princess Bride being awesome! *Dramatic pose* I was watching last night as I went to bed. Nothing like the sound of shrieking eels to lull you to sleep...
The Narnia movies are okay, but the first one had the kids fighting too much. The later ones are better though.

Princess Bride, I think, did as well as it did because it didn't try too hard to be like the book and presented it in a nostalgic, interesting way.
My favorite Pratchett books are the ones featuring the witches. I finished Carpe Jugulum a few months ago when I still had some downtime to spend reading.
Though, now I'm reading some Orson Scott Card because... well... my dad heard that I was interested in his work and proceeded to buy a good half of his novels on ebay... its somewhat more dense by comparison...
Edit: I have made my appearance and now I have to go write a monster post in the RP... >_______>

But... Engelbert Humperdinck wrote the Princess Bride. Goldman just tweaked it with a narration story and had it republished. I don't recall if I've seen the whole movie, and even what I did see was many, many, many years ago. I loved the book though. The funniest things for me where Humperdinck's asides, which I don't think made it into the movie.

The story so far?
Lixi is a fallen angel who managed to get wrapped up in the apocalypse because one of her old friends from way back when has decided that right now would be a great time to start the apocalypse. She met up with Sophia (another half-helled), her boyfriend Jason, Arminos who... well... we're not sure (Sophia's old flame, I'm to presume), Martin and Adja Mayhir (two humans), and now a half-demon (Yaoke.) Up to this point, they've been fighting to reach the city center because Joel (our main boss) is kind of building his fortress there, and the majority of it has been taking a nice whack at zombie heads. Right now we're meeting with Joel and he's basically being a jerk.
We're pretty much making it up as we go along, which is about par for the course when it comes to things that I'm involved in. Surprises at every corner because we don't know where we're going. Hoyes.

Well, I tend to think of them as separate as well. I don't have issue with the movie. I'm just drawn to the book. And Humperdinck's style.
AN I CAN BE A BUTT IF AH WANT TOO. Cos I've been authorized to be fancy and shit.

The both have their merits. althogh I think I might enjoy the book a bit more too. But this is because I'm a bookworm, and the bit about trees....
I totally hate Goldman for give the "1st chapter" of Buttercup's baby. Like I totally want to actually read that book, but it doesn't exist. My oldest sister sent a letter to him and everything. All you get is an apology.

I'm noble, too. At several junctures in my genealogy. Along with drunken sailors. Ok, I don't know they were drunk. But I like to give them their own theme song.
