I think that makes you Lawful Neutral: one who abides by the laws of their country and believes that they are right, but in a moment of truth will show that their intentions are not for the Greater Good, but instead is looking out for themselves and the ones they love.

I think I used to be Lawful Neutral when I was strict churchgoer (but I thought I was Lawful Good... and had a bit of a martyr complex while I was at it,) but now I think that I've become Neutral-Neutral. I still follow the laws, but not because I think that they are true and just. I follow them because I know that there are consequences to those actions (some, more than others. For example, I don't murder because I simply don't want to and I have my doubts as to whether I could properly hide the body. Stealing, on the other hand, I don't do that because I know that if I get caught it will severely decrease my chances of having a job, as well as the fact that I feel that something should be earned and that makes its sentimental value increase.) A lot of crimes I don't commit because I simply don't have the urge to commit them. Also, there are some laws that I simply do not agree with, which would put me on equal footing as a 'radical' if I were talking to someone who strongly opposes the things that I think make common sense.

Not to get political, but one of those things is the legalization of marijuana. I'm not a smoker myself (and, in fact, am kind of fed up with the potsmokers in my living space) but I think that as far as substances go its pretty benign. My only issue is the excess amounts of smoke (which is irritating my throat) and the amount of money that my friends have been putting towards it (purely selfish reasons). But on the side of decriminalized marijuana: it can be used effectively to fight anxiety disorders. I've had anxiety attacks that last for days and are completely crippling. So, once again: completely selfish reasons.

And, of course, I have this thing about Equal Marriage. (Purely selfish reasons.)

So, when it comes to my chaos/law alignment: Neutral. I stand by the things that I believe will benefit me.
And when it comes to my good/evil standing: Neutral. I look out for me and mine.

Neutral-Neutral.

If you can't fit a Futurama, Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, Joss Whedon, Star Trek, George Lucas,or Family Guy reference into a long, drawn-out paragraph about an alignment grid used in table-top gaming, then your statement is invalid.

Edit: Nana just told me her backstory. Now I have to write it down before I lose it again. If I don't respond to anything, its because I'm locked in a battle with Googledocs.

My alignment would be chaotic good. I only care for laws that are actually right. Laws that remove essential freedoms should be removed.

I think that's Neutral-Good, at least by my definition.

Someone that's Chaotic-Good is "Might help you out; might steal your car."

Edit: No wait... you're right. You could be Chaotic Good, according to this description: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/description.htm

No. A chaotic character just cares little for the law. They never do anything evil though. Stealing a car would be kinda evil. lol. Chaotic good characters always do what's right, even when the law ie. the anti vigilante laws in the U.S. dictate otherwise.

Chaotic neutral might steal your car though. they don't care about anything other than what they wanna do.

My favorite character I'm writing is a wizard who's an asshole. lol. He's a good person on the inside though... sometimes...when he feels like it.

Wizards.

I think the real reason I like that is that he possesses my mother's maiden name.

Are you Scottish or Irish? I have never been sure which that surname belonged to.

Well! Excellent question.
'Mc' is usually Irish. And indeed, there are Irish McDonalds, I believe.
But my family happens to be Scottish through and through.

On the subject of grids (again), even though I'm apparently lawful-neutral, I always like to run RPG characters who are chaotic good. Then again, I do kinda like Batman, so it may stem from that.

@Taiyo:Could be.

@Cardinal: My family is English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, German, and Italian. I'm related to nobility in England, and possibly Germany. Not really sure.

I have much the same background, but substitute Belgian, Dutch, and a bit of Danish for German and Italian.

Let's see...I'm full-blown German on my mom's side, and on my dad's side I'm German, Welsh, Scottish, Black Norse, English, and Pennsylvania Dutch. Yep, I'm a half-mutt.

Pennsylvania Dutch is actually Pennsylvania Deutch mispronounced. ...It's German. Ask an Amish person. They're German, not Dutch. lol.
