Aleron let Vulpix run ahead, shaking her head as she watched, looking around. Just in case. She wasn't feeling very paranoid, but better safe than sorry.

Espeon was content to settle on Margaret's shoulders, although her forked tail twitched every so often. Margaret knew that meant that the pokemon was keeping an eye out with her psychic abilities, rather than running around.

A sharp call from Vulpix sent Aleron running after her pokemon, and she skidded to a halt when she saw two Team Rocket grunts trying to fight off Vulpix, and she quickly released Jolteon too. The Staryu from one of the grunts was quickly distracted by the electric-type, and a Koffing moved overhead, avoiding Vulpix's attacks.

Espeon jumped down from Margaret's shoulder and threw a Confusion at the Koffing. Espeon knew very well that her psychic-type moves were effective against poison-type foes like Koffing, and seized upon the opportunity to show her skill.

The Staryu surprised Margaret a bit. Since when did Rockets use water-types? She had usually seen them more with dark- and poison-types, with the occasional electric-type thrown in for good measure. It was strange seeing a Rocket with a Staryu.

Jolteon downed the Staryu quickly, not even hesitating. Then he looked back at Aleron when the two Rockets recalled their pokemon and fled, leaving a big box where they had been.

Aleron moved over carefully and lifted the lid, letting out a soft breath when she saw the egg. It was lavender, with a few faint spots.

"Margaret?" she called. "You might want to see this..."

Margaret hurried over to the box that Aleron was looking at. Her eyes widened when she saw the egg. Even as she looked, there was a faint humming in the back of her head, almost half-way between being a physical sound and being just in her mind. She looked at her friend.

"I don't recognize it at all," she said softly. Her gaze kept being drawn to the egg. "But... it's weird, it sounds like it's humming or something." Reaching into the box, she carefully picked the egg up and examined it. "I almost want to say it's something psychic... it's got the right coloring for it." Her attention was grabbed when Espeon came up to sniff the egg for a moment. Then the psychic-type nuzzled the egg, purring slightly. Clearly, she liked whatever it was.

Aleron shook her head. This was weirding her out. Psychic type egg? And she suspected it was a legendary, too. But she didn't know of any psychic types except...

Except...

"Oh, hell," she swore, just as Mewtwo popped in behind the two, his eyes on the egg.

Margaret had been following Aleron's apparent train of thought, and had come to the same conclusion.

"There's just no way," she protested, although it was half-hearted at best. There were just no other legendaries that she'd heard of that were psychic. She jumped when Mewtwo appeared behind them. She was probably never going to get used to that. When Mewtwo appeared, though, the faint, almost insistent humming from the egg seemed to get a bit more... cheerful?

"I see you found my predecessor's egg," Mewtwo said, startling Aleron, who jumped. "Mew."

Aleron looked at Margaret, then the egg, then back at Mewtwo. Though it was hard to tell, he seemed kinda pissed.

"We kind of stumbled upon it," Margaret replied. She was very conscious of the fact that she was still holding the egg, but oddly, she didn't really want to put it down. It seemed almost familiar, in a way, even though she was absolutely positive that she'd never encountered a Mew before. Maybe it was just because it was psychic, and she was comfortable around psychics, but there was something almost 'safe' about it. Even Espeon seemed to like it, which reinforced the 'it's psychic and therefore familiar' theory. "A Rocket left it behind."

"Hmm." Mewtwo eyed the egg, and Aleron shivered briefly. She had a bad feeling about this. "I will take it."

"We don't mind walking," Aleron interjected quickly. "Really."

Mewtwo made a dissatisfied noise, still looking rather jealous of the egg.

"We were on our way out of town anyways," Margaret added. "We don't mind doing some more hiking around." That, and she kind of didn't want to let the egg go just yet. Something about Mewtwo's expression made her think that it was best to hang on to it for the moment. He looked almost... jealous? But why...? She blinked, remembering the vague details she'd skimmed in the cloning experiment files. "Oh..." she murmured.

Still looking rather upset, Mewtwo vanished without another word. He'd give them a few days to rethink their answer.

"Well," Aleron said with forced cheerfulness. "That went well."

"No, I know why," Margaret replied slowly, thinking. "I think." She nibbled on her bottom lip for a moment. "I almost want to go back to Saffron for a day or so... There's a file I want to get from Silph, it might explain what just happened a little better. I know some vague details, but... I kind of want the whole story."

Aleron nodded. "Alright. Well, we can go to Blackthorn first, or we can head down and back to Goldenrod and catch the train there. Up to you." She shrugged.

"We might be better off going back to Goldenrod," Margaret replied. "It's easier than trying to go through Tohjo Falls and the Indigo Plateau to get to Viridian. The train is faster, besides."

Aleron nodded. "Alright, then. We should probably put the egg back in the box, or in a bag or something so people don't look at us weird." She could already see some complications with this.

Margaret nodded, and slipped her bag off of her shoulders. After moving some things around, she gently slipped the egg in and covered it with her spare blanket. "There," she said, putting the bag back on. It was a little heavier, and she could feel the curve of the egg against her shoulder blades, but it was nothing she couldn't handle. "Come on, let's go. I want to get there as soon as we can."

Aleron nodded and started walking, Vulpix walking next to her, still relaxed. The two stayed quiet as Aleron tried to figure out the quickest way to get to Goldenrod.

Margaret walked with her, Espeon next to her. She kept an eye out on their surroundings; she wanted to make sure nothing else jumped out at them. It would be just their luck to run across Ho-oh again or something.

Aleron kept her attention around them as well, trying to make sure nothing else happened. Her nerves had had enough for one day.

Margaret relaxed a bit once they got back to town. There was less of a chance of any random legendaries finding them there. She didn't relax completely, though; she still had a Mew egg essentially strapped to her back.

Aleron glanced around and headed for the pokemon center, since it was getting close to sunset. So she just went straight to the pokemon center, grabbing a cot and pulling it off to the side.

"So, do we want instant food or do we want to find food somewhere?"

"Instant is fine tonight," Margaret replied as she grabbed a cot for herself and dragged it off to the side next to Aleron's. "I don't know about you, but I don't want to leave the building tonight. Never know what might be drawn to us by the egg or something..." That, and she just didn't like going out after dark, regardless. Oh, she had no problems camping, but she always made camp once the sun set and never left the safety of her tent and fire.

Aleron nodded, and then snickered. "I can't wait to see how you react once I get my Houndour. Since it's half dark." She grinned, unable to help the bit of teasing, but she got out instant ramen for them and some pokemon food for her two that she could let out.
