Margaret came forward, shrugging her bag off her back. Somehow, she'd managed to convince Mew that riding in the bag was best, and that it had to stay put until she told it otherwise. Hesitantly, she opened the bag.

"It's safe now," she said softly. Mew promptly popped its head out of the bag and looked around, blinking its bright blue eyes.

Professor Oak flailed a little bit. "Is that... Is that...?!"

"A living Mew. Yes. Don't ask us for details, but it's real. And we need you to keep it safe and secret." Aleron gave him a look.

Mew squirmed out of the bag, stretching a little and floating around the humans a bit. It brightened when it saw Professor Oak, and immediately went over to investigate.

Professor Oak just stared for a few moments before he held out his hands.

"Well hello there," he sid quietly, watching the little Mew.

"Mew!" it chirped happily, grabbing his hand the same way it did for Mewtwo before.

"Little thing loves meeting new people," Margaret commented, watching the legendary. Mew wasn't forming coherent phrases yet that she could understand, but the sentiment was loud and clear.

"Well, it's certainly rather charming." Professor Oak blinked. "He or she?" He looked at Margaret for clarification.

"Not a clue," Margaret replied. "It's barely been hatched for a day or two." And really, she wasn't entirely sure she would be able to tell until the little Mew spoke.

Professor Oak nodded, looking at the little Mew. Oh he could have so much fun and he would have to get some people together to do some testing...

Aleron could see the thought going through his head. "Hey. Professor. You can't tell anyone else."

"But... but..."

"Nobody," Margaret affirmed. She looked at him. "It's really important, Professor, and we can't let anyone else find out that Mews aren't extinct like everyone thinks they are."

Professor Oak sighed. "Oh, fine," he muttered. "Where are you two going?"

"Don't know yet." Aleron shrugged. "Keep hunting for legendary eggs, I guess." When he looked surprised, she briefly explained what had been going on.

Professor Oak frowned. "Well, all the regions have their own legendaries," he pointed out. "And it's possible that the eggs have been moved around, too. So maybe you should go explore one of the other regions for a while. And be sure to keep in touch."

"It's not hard to get to Johto from here," Margaret mused. "Through Indigo Plateau, across Tohjo Falls... Takes you right to New Bark Town, doesn't it?" She watched Mew float around them as it amused itself. It seemed happy, at any rate.

"Yeah, but we've been back and forth to Johto a few times." Aleron shrugged. "When we went to go visit my parents, remember?"

Professor Oak shrugged. "There are three other districts, too, and they have different pokemon."

That caught Aleron's attention. New pokemon to go discover? Awesome.

"We never took the route through the checkpoints at Indigo Plateau, though," Margaret pointed out. "We took the train." Her attention was also caught by the thought of new regions.

"What are they?" she asked, curious. The only one she knew of was Hoenn, since she had a pokemon from there.

"Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova." Professor Oak looked at them. "You have to take boats to get to them, but they're all different regions with different pokemon."

"I wouldn't mind that," Margaret mused. She looked at the Professor. "I have a Hoenn native in my team. I have a Metagross. I've just never been out there before."

Professor Oak nodded. "Well, I know there are a few boats leaving in the next day or two to each of the regions," he said. "They're leaving from Vermillion."

Vermillion wasn't too far away. They could make it by the time the next boat left. Aleron looked over at Margaret to see what she thought.

Margaret nodded. She liked this plan.

"Will you look after this one for us?" she asked, gesturing to Mew as it drifted past. It seemed curious about everything in the lab, although it hadn't touched anything. Yet.

Professor Oak wavered for a few moments before he gave in.

"Alright. But you two better keep in touch!"

Margaret nodded.

"We will," she said. She blinked when the Mew suddenly shot at her and snuggled close.

"Mew!" it squeaked.

"Sweets, it's okay," Margaret soothed, petting it a little. "You'll be fine here."

"Mew!" It shook its head.

"Yes you will," Margaret said. "And I'll check in as often as I can, I promise."

"Mew?" It looked up at her with big watery eyes.

"I promise," Margaret said again. Mew blinked up at her, then cuddled her again and reluctantly let go.

Aleron shook her head. "Take care, Professor." She headed outside and was already on her way back to Vermillion when she remembered.

"Whoops, I never told him about the red Gyarados."

Margaret grinned.

"Tell him on the next phone call," she said. "That way he can't get distracted trying to examine him."

Aleron snickered and shook her head. "Hey, think I should let Gyarados out while we're on the ship? It sounded like it'll take a while to get to any of the other regions, and I'm sure he'd appreciate being out in the water for a while."

"If they'll let you, sure," Margaret replied. "Though I bet some other trainers will be interested in a red Gyarados."

"This is true. Maybe at night when it's harder to see?" Aleron frowned. She didn't want anyone trying to steal her Gyarados, or get into a battle with her because of it, so she was going to have to be careful.

"You could teach him Surf and ride him behind the ship," Margaret teased.
