The cup was given to me last night by a student, I'm not sure why but I left it for today to drink since it had been a bit late last night. xD

I guess it's because people here don't celebrate Christmas as much, so we don't usually go around buying gifts and all that...maybe for a kid, but not for adults...(well, most of the time anyway)
lmao! I doubt that. xDDDDD

I've done most of my Christmas shopping already... but that's because I'm going home mid-month and will be leaving family again before Christmas. I didn't want to miss Christmas in Japan, so I'm missing it in the US. I still have to get stuff for my in-laws.... *groan* I'm thinking a nicely packaged heartless canister of loose-leaf tea.

Tiramisu-flavored milk tea? Oooh, sounds yummy!
Yeah, Christmas is our big gift-giving season. China has New Year's, right? The tradition of getting money from relatives sounds like a nice one, instead of getting something you're not sure you want or know you don't want or know you will throw out or use up or forget about in a few minutes/days/weeks/months.
Still, if anyone in my family just gave cold hard cash (and you can even tell by that expression what the view of "cash" is in English as a gift) it would be seen as a cop-out. Even a gift certificate is cop-out. Though when it's a gift certificate that can be used in, say, a country-wide chain of malls (like the Westfield gift cards) that's pretty nice. I dunno. I go back and forth on what makes more sense.
Part of me thinks that it is a nice rosy ideal, to be able to buy a gift for a loved or liked one and know it's something they'll enjoy. It's kind of a test of friendship. And yet it's not considered un-friendlike to just ask, "Hey, what do you want for Christmas?" Giving money just seems too impersonal... but it's more practical, and I know I'd *like* to just get money sometimes.

Yeah, there are pros and cons to both sides. :) I'd like money, but at the same time I'd like it if others surprised me with something I wasn't expecting...unless it was something totally random and something I'd probably not ever use or be seen with...say, a pink tutu.

CHILI, yum. As much as I love Japanese food, the first thing I'm doing when I go home for Christmas is getting a burrito. The next is getting a turkey sandwich. And the third is... um... *tries to think of more food* A hamburger! A real, proper, home-made hamburger, which we usually make from bison meat. Yum yum yum....
