Nope, they charge you money to rent out the books, unlike a library where it's free.

They're pretty popular here, lots of rental bookstores around. They mostly feature manga and young novels.

I used to spend a lot of time in them back in college, but now that I've started working I haven't been able to visit one as often as I'd like to.

Oh well. At least the good thing about it is that once I'm able to visit them, I'd have a ton of books to be able to go through instead of having to check back at them to see if a new book's been released all the time.
