I didn't hear about the thing about them lying...only about the disasters and how the nuclear plants going crazy.
and I don't get why they did that either....

A lot of Japan's geography is uninhabitable so there's not too many options..
And there are plenty of nuclear power plants near the coast.
It's easier to use the water from the ocean to cool them. And it's easier to just put them right by the coast to accomplish it.

Well, for the first almost week, they were like oh we can handle this. We've got it under control.. But after a bit they stopped and were like, okay guys we lied, this is fucking terrible and we don't know what to do

And Iku, it's the point that if they'd had it elsewhere, seawater wouldn't have been necessary, nor would've dumping hundreds of thousands of metric tonnes of incredibly dangerously nuclear water into the ocean.

-noms the ham from Momo- Thanks~

How else do you cool a nuclear reactor? I figure there are other methods, but for an island nation, seawater is the easiest way.

Like I said, seawater wouldn't have been necessary had they had the plant elsewhere :P

Are you saying that they only needed seawater to cool it down because it was damaged?

Seawater is necessary regardless of whether or not the plant has been damaged. They give off massive amounts of heat and need to be cooled constantly.

I ONLY dream lucidly. It's really weird, I've not met many people at all like me as far as that goes.
Sometimes I lucid dream, sometimes I don't. I don't like to know that I'm dreaming though, because usually when I 'figure out' that I'm dreaming, I wake up instantly and lose whatever good dreams that I might have been having. >_>;

Sometimes I'm aware that I'm dreaming, like the little tiny thought in the back of my mind buried beneath piles of other thoughts, and that allows me to make changes to my dreams. I like that happening because I could add all sorts of interesting stuff (sometimes) into my dreams. xD

I thought all nuclear plants needed seawater or some other sort of cooling liquid to cool the plants down so they don't overheat and explode?

I live in the middle of the United States.
Far from an ocean as you can possibly get..
And there's a nuclear power plant about forty miles from where I'm sitting right now..

Yes, they need to be cooled.. But there are other ways to get water than from the sea. Seawater isn't "good" for the reactors anyways. It's better to put unsalted water in them than saltwater, as far as I've heard.

@Momo: Oooh you did? D: Boooo!
Ham is good enough I guess.

@Clor: There's also power plants littered all along our coasts. I'm not saying it's impossible to put the plant somewhere else, but that it was more convenient and made more sense to stick it near the ocean to get cooled. That's why I asked how else do you cool them. I figure there are other ways, but ocean water is the best answer for them.

True that, the salt damages the metal and makes them rust easily. Usually they filter them to contain less salt I think, but I'm not sure if Japan has the resources/machines to do that in their current state...

The ocean is the biggest easiest resource to use, however damaging.
