I've always thought of it as *over-showy* but in a bad way, such as one wanting attention by being showy.

Ostentatious can be used as a synonym for gradiose...one definition of which being: grand in an imposing or impressive way

The thing that tipped me off, to you being german at least in some way...is the use of the phrase "I find it to be cute"

German's the only language I've ever really seen where the phrase "I find so and so to be" is used instead of "I think so and so is"
