Fairy, you don't do scriptfrenzy too by any chance do you?

I gave up writing, because I hate writing multiple drafts.
That, and my ideas are horribly unoriginal.

I think that writing is a wonderful exercise, even if you never plan to profit from it.

I was considering doing Script Frenzy. I'm trying to decide if I have anything I actually want to turn into a movie/television script though. My sister said she's going to do a web comic script this year.

I love writing I just wish I could finish what I start.

There are certain authors who only do a single printed draft because those people have already written six or seven drafts in their head before pen ever touches paper. Those people are the exception by a huge margin, most people don't really have the data recall to be able to really do this effectively, and sometimes the only way to really find problems or issues with a section of text is to look at how it's written and how it reads.

Maybe it was only one revision? It still seemed like something I could never do. I'm still in the middle of revising my first completed NaNo, from two years ago. It's pretty bad. Last year's is much improved, writing wise. I need to revise that also.

I've never won nano or scriptfrenzy, but I feel like this year I can finish scriptfrenzy. If you like collaborating, you can always have a writing partner for scriptfrenzy, sort of like doing a onexone private roleplay here on mene.

That would be an interesting way of doing it. Do you have any ideas yet?

I've won NaNo two years in a row. I'm not sure about next year though, since I'll be transferring to a harder college. Still, I can hope!

I only have some vague ideas of things that I want to put in my script, I have a feeling my script is going to be very very random, at least the cast of characters will be, so I'll have to figure out an excuse for them all to interact.

Nano, scriptfrenzy and any other similar contest is a nice idea, but honestly, if you are a dedicated writer, you can always find some other way to motivate yourself.

That's true. I have a tendency to get stuck in my writing after the first chapter or so, so I find Nano helps me get over that block.

Random can be interesting, but it can also be confusing.

*rolls into thread* I am going to get a retro looking bike for my Birthday! :squee: we saw a cool Huffy bike and it looked AWESOME! My mo she would get it for me for my b-day since I liked it a lot.

A good way to keep a story going is to have something really interesting happen that will let you show more of your character's personality...have a party, where someone divulges a life changing secret, have someone wake up late, have to hurry to get dressed and take a later bus than normal, where they meet their future boyfriend...sometimes just a slight change from the ordinary is great for making things happen.

Honestly, you should try to work on your story every day, even if it's just writing one sentence or planning what happens next. Then you keep the flow going.

That's good too. I'm really bad about that, my weekends and weekdays are vastly different, I tend to do more homework, socializing online, anything with a computer during the week and then afterwards, on the weekend, I spend time with my mom, catch up on tv shows, read, hang out with my girlfriend and often forget to come online at all.

I'm online a lot, but my computer at home doesn't support google documents, which is what I usually use to write my stories. So it's more difficult to write on days where I'm not at the library a lot.

It sounds like it is time to start saving up for a better computer. Or you could use some open source software for your stories.

eh...when it comes to what I actually write it's usually notes. I have an idea that will be...epic. It'll span at least three books that I know of...I've got like 6 or 7 of 8 magic systems at least conceptually thought up, most of the relative geography without any real geography, a couple of pocket dimensions, a religious pantheon, mythological history, a few characters (some who won't appear until book 2 at the earliest)

I've started problably 10,000 stories in my lifetime (since I was like 4 or 5) and I've finished drafts of maybe two, both of which were in the last ten years. Dark fantasy, modern fantasy, some sci-fi, some horror. If the day ever comes that I can sit down and just get all of them typed out, I'll be submitting to editors for the next five years without ever having to write a new story ever. But there's a lot of ideas and when I try to sit down to write the words just escape me sometimes. Which is something to get around, and I think if Allen Wold keeps giving me hell about finishing stories and submitting them, eventually it'll take.
