Reminders of the Past
Not many remember the incident that happened over 50 years ago at Machida personally, only read about it in the history books, however all know about what atrocity occurred there and what monsters resulted from it....
Machida was once just a regular ordinary apartment complex in Japan where families young and old had resided, at least until the date of June 24, 1994 around the time of 4:15 pm. At that time a large earthquake, that rocked the whole area, suddenly erupted without warning. Streets and buildings were damaged and people harmed from the intense quaking, even though it only lasted for a few moments. However it wasn't the quake itself that ended up doing the most damage, but rather what resulted. Of all the places that had gotten hit, Machida was by far the worst of these tragedies. Whether during the actual quaking, or after the appearance of a large hole in the ground that appeared after, no one can be certain, however what is known is all the residence within Machida were brutally slaughtered...
Soon after the massacre at Machida mysterious deaths began to appear around the city, with the causes initially unknown. As time passed however people began to notice some similarities in the cases, predominantly of people dressed in all black that some claimed carried bladed weapons on them as opposed to things like guns. No evidence other then eye witnesses could prove the weapon claim, however there was photographic evidence of the same four, or at times, five people at the scene. Usually in these photos all but one had appeared to be wearing black, so it was uncertain if she was apart of the group or if her presence was a coincidence.
The police force however knew the truth after some time. The police force in the Shibuya Precinct, known as the Special Mobil Investigation Troops First Division, were the first to learn of a special division group known as the Special Public Safety Task Force, also known as Section 2 or Tokko for short. What Section 2's job was initially unknown, but after a fateful run in with humans that bullets seemed unable to stop, the First Division soon learned that they were there to clean up and take care of murder cases that involved strange 'monsters', or at least that's what the First Division called them.
Initially the First Division wasn't primarily interested in Tokko, however when they found that all evidence from their murder cases inaccessible they began to slowly involve themselves and learn just what Tokko was. What they discovered were secrets that no human would ever believe without some physical evidence.
Tokko was a special organization that was used to take out monsters known as 'Phantoms' that poured out of the hole that had been created in Machida, after the earthquake as well as from other holes from all over the world and from other earthquakes in other areas of Japan that continuously happened throughout the last fifty years at increasing rates, as well as dispose of their 'human faced larva' that took control of humans at the phantom's orders.
As the First Division continued to dig they also discovered upon an ancient story of a box called the Box of Druj. Allegedly in the middle ages a high aristocratic family had ordered a group of alchemists to create a box that would summon a devil. The alchemists had succeeded and created a box consisting of 108 gold pieces and had named it the Box of Druj and had successfully summoned a devil. Incidentally the aristocratic family that had ordered the construction of the box were all slaughtered, along with many of the alchemists. The remaining alchemists, desperate, used the box to force the devil back to the underworld and seal the portal between the human and underworld. Then to ensure no one would ever use the box to open the portal again, the alchemists broke down and scattered all 108 pieces, unaware that during the time the portal was opened powerful phantoms had infused themselves with the pieces and went into a dormant state, which embedded themselves within random human individuals in the human world without their knowledge.
These people later became known as symbionts. They had the powers to awaken the phantom resting within their soul and borrow their strength. These symbionts had an array of superhuman powers and were the only ones that could actually kill the phantoms that came out of the portals that connected the underworld and the human world together. These powers included superhuman strength, speed, agility, stamina, could enter the minds of other symbionts and amazing self healing powers. They could jump distances that were unimaginable to regular humans, and survive falls that would typically be fatal. If the phantom resting within was powerful enough they even had the power to create a sort of dark energy blast. A sort of protective marking, called the 'Mark of Destruction', was placed somewhere upon the upper body of the symbiont, typically looking like a tribal tattoo that usually was found on one or more arms and stretched onto the upper part of the back, that protected these symbionts from being possessed by another phantom or the human faced larva that they commanded. The last known feature of these symbionts was that once they were awakened a bladed weapon became created that suited them best, and that they could call upon or dismiss at any time.
Although the symbionts were powerful beings when they were awakened, when they were unawakened they appeared only as normal humans. The Mark of Destruction is not present on them, so telling if a person was a symbiont or not could only be determined through a special ritual that would awaken the phantom within them. Details of the ritual seemed relatively 'simplistic' as it required for another symbiont's blade to pierce them almost fatally and allow their bodies to fall into one of the portals that connected the two worlds. From there one of two things would occur: either the phantom allied itself with its human host and helped to protect it and the other humans from the phantoms of their world, or they consumed them, turning their human hosted into a rather crazed person that desired only the destruction of the current human kind.
Those that fell into the second option usually believed themselves to be an 'evolved human' and believing that humanity needed to evolve in order to survive, turning a relatively simple scientific theory into a twisted belief of annihilation. There is only one thing that can stop a human turned mad from a phantom, and that is to be fatally wounded, or immediately killed, by another symbiont's blade. Unfortunately the same is true of a symbiont on the side of humanity, as a fatal wound from either a symbiont of the same side or one gone made, can kill them.
However not all that go through the ritual are immediately awake, as in many instances when the newly awakened symbiont returns from the portal that they were cast into, they may return unconscious, putting them in a fairly vulnerable state. From here a phantom itself or a crazed symbiont can influence the person into falling into the same 'madness', although cannot possess the person themselves due to the mark. This even holds true for a symbiont that was originally trying to save the human race and close the portal, proving that any being can be forced to switch from the side of good to that of evil. Whether or not the reverse is true is unknown as it has never been successfully proven.
Another unfortunate discovery is the way that humans are 'chosen' to become symbionts. For this to occur one had to have been involved in one of the many simultaneous murders that occurred around the world where a portal was opened and somehow ended up being thrown, pushed, shoved, ect..., into the open portal, where a phantom would rise up to claim them as their host. Once the symbiont has been 'created' then a piece of the Box of Druj becomes present within their bodies. From there, there is a very very slight chance that the person will be awakened as well during this process immediately, but for most the phantom simply goes dormant until it is awakened.
Because of the fact that the only way to close the portal is to collect all 108 pieces of the Box of Druj, most symbionts come to realize that if they are to close the portal that in the end they will have to give their life in order for their piece to be obtained from their bodies. Incidentally the Phantoms that come through the portal also all contain a piece of the box, therefore until all the pieces from the phantoms are collected, there must be at least one last symbiont left in order to eliminate the last phantom that contains a piece of the Box of Druj.
As First Division continued their investigation of Tokko, and uncovered these truths, they too discovered that Tokko itself is made up of some of these symbionts, with only a handful of normal humans who also knows these truths. They have also discovered that not all symbionts aren't bent on destroying humanity are in joint with Tokko. Since being in the area of murders is one of the required elements to be a symbiont, there are many who were awakened and thirsted only for revenge against the phantoms. Although these symbionts wouldn't hurt a human normally they can still be influenced be it forcefully or not.
In one particular case a symbiont had described his experience as one attempted to influence him. According to his statement an elderly man had invited him to his mansion to discuss about the Box of Druj. After a short conversation the elderly man began to claim radical ideas such as the need for humans to evolve, and that he had the potential to do so. The symbiont male then tried to leave only to be attacked by a black smog like power that seemed to knock him out and absorb into his body. He then felt as if he was transported into a world within his own mind, where he beheld an image of himself, holding an identical sword to the one that he had used to slay phantoms. After a few short exchange of words, it became clear to the male that the identical man to him was 'evil' and the two began a struggle for control and power. It appeared that the original male was going to lose another mental figure came to his aid, one of his female co-workers who too was a symbiont and had entered his mind to help him, and with her help managed to defeat the 'evil' identical 'twin image' of himself.
According to the testimonies of his co-workers, all of whom were discovered being a part of Tokko itself, the male had been left on the doorstep to their 'headquarters' at the time and had been unconscious for three days. Suddenly he woke up and began attacking them, although he had a sort of glazed over look in his eyes and said nothing, which hinted to them that he was in the process of being influenced, and quickly subdued him before he fell unconscious once more. At that moment one of the female Tokko members chose to enter his mind to help him combat the influence, although she risked being influenced herself. After a half hour to an hour the two of them awoke, appearing back to normal.
After discovering this and many other records the First Division began pulling its resources to assist Section 2 in locating the remaining 108 pieces as quickly as possible, as the portal at Machida began to expand and threatened to pull the whole area into the underworld itself. It took close to three years before all the pieces were successfully found, in which by that time the Machida complex had indeed been engulfed and threatened to spread even further, and gathered. After the sacrifice of the symbionts that had worked so hard to destroy the phantoms and protect humanity, the Box of Druj was once more reassembled and the portal closed, however the pieces of the box still remained in the human world, awaiting for the chance to be reassembled and used to once more open the pathway...
Current Day
The current date is June 24th, 2044, and the fiftieth year anniversary of the Machida incident. The world has advanced a fair amount and technology has advanced further than what was originally thought possible. One would think that with the current age that there would be none that would think of using or remembering the old magic that was promised in the Box of Druj, however this remains untrue. Three days ago there appeared to be a massive breakout of intense and high level earthquakes, ones that resembled closely to the one that had occurred right before the Machida massacre. Within that time frame there have also been a massive break out of murders as well as the mysterious appearance of holes where the highest level of damage occurred. However this is not the only strange event that appears to have occurred. A large number of eyewitness and medical reports appear to show a substantially large number of strangely dressed persons, of what appears to be of past decades, that seem to be 'suffering' from a sort of 'delusional amnesia' as they appear to have no idea where they are, when they are nor of anything that's considered 'common sense' in terms of technology or society. It appears that the area with the largest reports of these cases, as well as the town with the most damage and murders, is in Kinsale Ireland. It appears so far that all attempts at a 'cure' to this 'delusional amnesia' as they all seem to still claim ideals and act like those dressed from the era and area they appeared to be dressed as. Many of also claimed that just before seeing one of these persons what appeared to be a dark distorted light appeared, and when going to investigate one of these people are there.
With these people there appears to be quite a few 'murders' in which limbs and pieces that appeared to have been sliced off have been popping up. This of course has led many descendants from the First Division from the Shibuya Precinct have begun to make their way towards Kinsale Ireland to 'question' these individuals. There have also been rumors that a new Section 2 has also been formed and have been spotted around the area. There have been some talks among the First Division that it is believed that these individuals with 'delusional amnesia' are actually people from the past, and since Section 2 appears to have shown an interest in them, symbionts from the past as well.
Rules
- Follow all of Menewsha's rules and ToS
- No godmodding or power playing please
- Don't leave people behind or out of the roleplay
- Keep genders and the number of regular humans, phantoms, sides, and symbionts as equal as possible. Yes we do need people to play phantoms and regular humans. Not everyone can be a symbiont or awakened or on humanity's/phantom's side. Also as a side note normal humans can also be good/evil/neutral or unknowing of the phantoms and symbionts initially. Symbionts also don't all just have to be in Tokko or in the Phantom's main group, they can be on their own to achieve their goals, but they can be influenced just like those on humanity's side, or possibly brought back from the Phantom's side. Eras are one of the things that don't have to be even, however not everyone can be a symbiont from the past, we do need some current era ones too.
- Pm all profiles to me with the title Union of Past and Present and place a Monty Python quote at the beginning of your PM. (Use google if you have to)
- Be respectful to everyone
- Have a way of distinguishing your in character posts and OOC.
- Keep things Pg-13. Violence, gore and romance are allowed and encouraged, but don't post anything that would get you or the board in trouble. If you want to be more detailed take it off site.
- Don't create more characters then you can handle
- Literacy isn't too important, however I do ask that you don't capitalize every word and put a period at the end of your sentences.
- Please please please for the love of all things holy and unholy read everyone's post! If you don't you might miss something vital or might miss another character interacting with your character.
- And try to have fun.

Name: Alastar Ó Murchadha (May accept being called Al or Alex for short)
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Nationality: Irish
Weight: 150 lbs
Height: 5'6
Personality: Alastar is a relatively active, easy going and can be a quite talkative individual. Generally considered a 'nice guy' to most, although due to his occupation of choice will sometimes exploit this 'idea' of him to his advantage. Trusting him can be a bit risky, since there are times he can't help having 'sticky fingers' and doing a bit of pickpocketing, especially towards shiny and expensive looking items. He holds the love of the sea and large bodies of water, and holds great knowledge of navigating them. He's a rather intelligent individual and he isn't afraid to share his knowledge with others, unless it deals with where he stashed his riches from the past and present. Typically trusting of most, though he's not too overly trusting of people as he knows there are those that would exploit that trust to their advantage. He can have a bit of a temper if his buttons are pushed just right, but he generally keeps it in check. One however would know when he's extremely angry from the fact that his accent starts to heavily come out in his speech. Although he's fairly lax and easy going, when push comes to shove he can be quite serious and deadly with his blade and thus should not be underestimated.

Bio: Alastar was born ironically in Kinsale in 1318, twenty two years before the Black Plague ravaged the world. His family wasn't the richest family, with his mother helping in running a fishing stall, while his father was out plundering treasures and catching a few fish here and there for the cover of a fisherman. In truth his father was a pirate, which perhaps was what led way to his own occupation as an Irish pirate, and had taught him to love the sea and oceans, as well as the treasures it could lead him to. There were times his father had even gone so far to teach the boy as to take him on a few of his more minor and less dangerous pillages.
As he grew his knowledge of maps, charts, navigating and sea faring only increased until he was able to acquire his own ship and crew at the age of 21, as he chose to be a part of his father's crew until then. A few months before what was known later as the Black Death hit, Alastar had set out to sea to make a name for himself and left Kinsale Ireland.
It was during his travels that he had his first encounter with what would later be known as Phantoms. One day a message had come to him that his parents had been brutally murdered while he had stopped at a port town to refresh his supplies, while discovering that an illness had started spreading throughout the country. Once he heard the news of his parents demise as well as the rampaging sickness that was coming, he quickly gathered what he and his crew needed and started boarding everything on the ship. He was just about to load on the last of their supplies when the ground began to violently shake, destroying the loading dock in the process. Once the violent shaking had subsided and the dust settled, Alastar found that he had been thrown from the bridge, losing the supplies he had been carrying as well as a few crew mates, and was once more on the ground of the port town. The sight that greeted him as he looked back at his ship was a gruesome one. Aboard his men were getting slaughtered by strange looking creatures, and although they tried defending themselves it appeared no use.
Alastar had chosen to take out the crude pistol he carried with him and attempted to get the creature's attention, which after finishing off the last of his men worked. He was outnumbered by far, but still he attempted to fight back, not noticing the large gaping hole only a few steps behind him, and doing rather well until the bladed arm of one creature pierced his chest. This had caused him to stagger backwards and fall into the hole that was the portal that connected the human world and phantom's world, and incidentally became what triggered his phantom's awakening.
When he awoke moments later, he found himself alive and a new blade in his hands though still surrounded by the murderous creatures. It was then that he understood what he needed to do in order to kill the creatures and began to fight once more, however this time coming out the victor. Since that moment he had sworn to hunt down the creatures that had taken the life of his crew.
It was during a time that he was hunting that he had seen a rather bright light. He didn't know what exactly it was, but figured it had to have been a trick of the creatures and ran towards it, sword drawn and shouting his vengeance, not knowing that the light would be a portal that would throw him into the distant future.
Other: Alastar has now been in the present time for about three weeks or so and is one of those deemed having 'delusional amnesia'. Although his time has been short here in the present time of Kinsale he has learned that not many speak with the same accent, or the same tongue as him, and has learned in order to communicate he needed to suppress his accent. He can almost speak without it completely, however when he's either extremely angry, upset or excited he has a tendency to slip back into his native tongue and accent, making it a bit difficult to understand him during those times.

The Pirate's start
A resounding crash and the shout of what sounded to be curse words in another tongue seemed to erupt from the room of 213 in the mental ward of the Kinsale's most reputable hospital. At the shouts a few of the staff nearest the room glanced over towards it, hesitant on whether they wished to see who it was that upset their 'pirate' patient Alastar Ó Murchadha. Judging from the rapid apologetic voice of a female it was clear to the others that it was a nurse that seemed to upset the rather strange male. He had been there three weeks now, claiming he was a pirate and that the year he had last remembered originated in the 1300s each and every day. And of course everyday a nurse or doctor would have to try and tell him otherwise, causing the daily rage outbursts that was now echoing through the hallways.
At the sound of another crash the attention of a particular female doctor was caught, and with a sigh made her way towards the noisy room. She had become Alastar's regular doctor, and was probably the only one that was able to reenter the room after angering the red haired male. As she entered she noticed the broken glass shards of what had once been a rather simple clear vase on the floor as well as a plastic casing that had been covering one of the few machines in the room. Glancing on further beyond the wreck she could see the nurse that had caused the male's upset on one side of the bed and the patient on the other side in a corner, pointing and angry finger at the nurse and letting loose yet another strange curse at her. The nurse didn't seem too terribly frightened, though she did seem a little shook up at being cursed at in a strange language, signifying that she was probably new to the hospital. 'I suppose I better 'save' her...' the doctor thought with a sigh, knowing that physically the 'pirate' male wouldn't harm her, but his strange rantings and what was assumed to be curses, did create a sort of mental uncertainty. “Miss...Yolanda that'll be enough for today. I think it's best to leave Mister Murchadha alone for today ok?” the doctor said with a smile as she searched out the nurse's name from her badge.
Turning the nurse almost nodded hesitantly, almost uncertain if she should leave the doctor with the raging cursing man, before slowly leaving the room.
Once the nurse was out of the room the doctor then turned to the still raging red haired man. “How many times have I told you not to throw glass things? That's the fifth vase this week that you've broken. If that had hit her it would have really hurt her you know? Glass isn't exactly the softest substance to be hit with” the doctor said with a sigh and shake of her head as she extended a hand out towards the man. From day one Alastar had made it clear that he much preferred to be called by his first name, or a nick name such as Al or Alex, rather than his last when speaking to him directly.
“ Devour gráinneoga drochaigeanta Bealtaine do undergarments!” Alastar said in a puffed up rage as he directed a glare now towards the doctor. He wasn't exactly angry with her at the moment, but rather the nurse, but since she was no longer here it was the doctor that he would have to direct his rage to for the time being.
The doctor let out a sigh at the phrase, not entirely understanding it, but then that was rather normal. “Yes, yes drochiganta, drochiganta...Now would you please return to your bed for me?” the doctor asked, as she attempted to repeat one of the words he had said, though not exactly succeeding. Despite this her words seemed to have some sort of slight impact as the red haired male slowly and begrudgingly made his way towards the bed, though refused to cease his glare at her.
Once he was in the bed the doctor approached and calmly took his arm to see if he had ended up harming himself in any way. She attempted to pull up the sleeve of his shirt, as he had refused quite vigorously to not wear one of the hospital gowns but his own clothing, though found the arm immediately wrenched from her grasp before she could see under. With a sigh she decided to cease her attempt, knowing no matter how hard she tried she would not be able to let the male allow her to examine either of his arms or upper back in the least. She wasn't entire sure why, but for now she would let it be. There didn't appear to be any pain or injuries when she touched the area through the clothing so there wasn't a too urgent need to persist in seeing.
Her gaze suddenly diverted to his face as she heard him mumble something along the lines of “Go mbeire an diabhal ort”, which she was sure was probably another curse of some sort. With a laugh and slight pat of his shoulder she gave a small nod. “Alright, alright I'll even leave you be for the time being. Oh and just to let you be aware it is currently time for visitors. Maybe someone you recognize will come to visit you today and help somewhat cure you of your amenisa” the doctor said with a smile and a slight sigh, before exiting the room and leaving the male alone.
“ Someone I know?...That isn't exactly likely there lassie...” the male mumbled to himself quietly, returning back from his native tongue to one that most others could actually understand, although his accent was still relatively clear. Turning his head almost sadly with a sigh, his gaze directed itself out of the single window in his room, and only current view of the outside world at the moment. Later he knew that he would be allowed to get some fresh air, after all aside from him claiming to be the pirate that he was, the era he came from and his native tongue, he seemed almost normal.
