Enter Sin City. A world of beauty, drugs, and crime. Paranormal Detectives Sione Grimshaw and her ghostly partner, Russel, have been working the beat for a few years now, successfully solving case after case and earning themselves a name within even the most exclusive inner circles. But nothing can prepare them for their next case- A poltergeist who would do anything to get them out of the scene.

Can they find her first, or will they be so much dust in the wind?

[I'm glad you liked it! <33333]

Sione sighed and leaned her elbows on her desk, rubbing the bridge of her nose in irritation. This case was being a pain in the ass- she really wanted to go home, or maybe go out for some scotch.
"Duty, my ass," she grumbled, leaning back and flipping through the file lazily. She was alone in the office, and the lights were out save for a small desk lamp and the street light outside her window. The sounds of the city buzzed past outside her window- the laughter of a couple drifted up from the busy street below.
"Russel," she called lazily, wondering just where her ghostly partner-in-crime (or partner against crime, as it were) was.

The yellow eyed ghost had been lazing around the building and snooping, as per what he was best at. He had currently fled from an office. Some things were better meant to stay in the office. He made a small face and made his way toward the familiar room. Hearing his name, Russel smirked a little. "You rang?" he asked as he went through the door and inside the office. "You really should turn up the lights. Seems like you're just trying to blind yourself." he commented. Glancing down at the desk, he raised an eyebrow and made his way around the desk to peak at the case. "Same one from earlier?"

Sione rolled her eyes at Russel, looking over her shoulder at him. "Hey, if I'm blind, I'd never have to look at your ugly mug again," she said casually. Of course, she didn't think Russel was bad-looking; he was cute, as ghosts went. She leaned back in her chair, frowning as she eyed the file. "Yeah," she said, her voice serious. "This is irritating me. This man had a completely spotless record, and then one night just unloads in a casino full of people? Not likely. But unless I can find another culprit, their going to close the case on me." She sighed and rubbed her eye, looking like a sleepy child. "Times like this I really want to smoke," she muttered. She'd been trying to kick the bucket on the habit, but sometimes it was just so hard, especially with the stress of work.

Russel laughed, shaking his head. "Ah, but then you'd be useless in the crime area." he reminded her in a slightly teasing tone. Once she leaned back, he leaned over and picked up the file. To anyone that walked in there at the moment they'd probably see the floating file and Sione sitting down in her chair. Unless he wanted others to see him. He frowned, flipping through the pages a little. "That won't happen this time. Remember, you have someone who has connections in other places." he offered with a wink. He knew she was most likely tired from all the day's work. Times like this when she seems more like a child than anything. "Smoking is bad for you and will destroy that pretty doll face you have. You can get a drink however."

She managed a tight, strained smile, shrugging her shoulders. "Right, I forgot," she admitted. Russel could be extremely human sometimes. She snorted, shaking hair out of her eyes. "I wish I could get a drink, but I get some nasty hangovers. And I don't feel like walking home tonight." She leaned back, reaching up to take the file. "Speaking of, are you crashing at my place tonight? I'm gonna head out in a few minutes, but I'm taking the file home and any help would be awesome." She stretched languidly in the chair, yawning widely.

Russel laughed, letting himself float above Sione's reach. Sure he was already taller than him, but he wanted to make her really reach for it. If she even took the bait. "One of the things I don't miss. Hangovers. You poor poor human." he teased then floated back down, handing her the file. "I suppose I can go with you. Nothing much else to do. There's a few newbies around though.. Some from the casino I can check out once you've crashed." he muttered. He meant that there were new ghosts. He had briefly seen them around, but hadn't really thought much of it. "Which by the looks of it, you're due at any moment. Let's go before you crash in the office. ...Again."

"Yeah, yeah," Sione said, swatting at him with the file as soon as it was back in her hands. "If you get anything on those ghosts, though, or if you see something, you better wake me up immediately." She yawned again, like a sleepy lioness. "Hey, my chair is rather comfortable," she said, playfully defensive as she got to her feet and grabbed her jacket. She was dressed sensibly- dress pants, a white blouse tucked into her pants. Her boots clicked against the tile as she crossed the room, snatching her keys from the key hook next to the door. "Come on, you," she said, pausing to look over her shoulder as she pulled open the door. "I want a coffee before we get back." She reached up and pulled her hair out of it's bun- most of the hair had escaped from the loose hairstyle anyways. "You think anyone's going to mistake me for a prostitute again," she asked with a mischeivous smile, shaking her hair out until it framed her face. It had happened a few times- that was why she hardly wore skirts to the office anymore.

"A bed more so than a chair." he retorted with a light grin. "As for waking you.. We'll see." It really depended on how long she had slept, and if she really needed it. No way would he wake her up if she only had an hour of sleep or so. The girl still had to work the next day. He knew she needed the rest. He walked after her and nodded. Making a small face, he stuck out his tongue. "How can you stand coffee? It's just, gross." he stated in a slightly bitter tone. Giving her a once over, Russel smirked. "Maybe. You're dressed somewhat more conservatively today, so chances are low." he assured her. "Though you might be hit on."

"Beds are for schmucks," she said casually, locking her door behind them. "And if you don't wake me up, there'll be consequences," she said, making a mock angry face and shaking her fist. She began down the hall, hoping that they'd fixed the elevator already. She couldn't help her sigh of relief when she saw the light winking at her, the caution tape taken away. "I live on coffee, Russel," she reminded him, pushing the button to call the elevator off. "I don't think I could make it through all those late nights without it." The elevator came up, the doors sliding open; she stepped on, waiting patiently for him before pressing the button. She cracked a grin at him, rolling her eyes. "Oh gosh, I think I'd rather deal with a drugged-up mass murderer," she said. Sione wasn't exactly the type for dating- in fact, she'd had one boyfriend her whole life. She revolved around her work, and everything came second, if it came at all. Men just weren't her problem.

Russel rolled his eyes once they started for the elevator. "Beds are for those who have common sense. And as if you could threaten me." he stated, a light smirk playing on his lips. He just shrugged at her statement about living on coffee. He was personally a known coffee hater. He never did stand the taste or smell of the stuff during his life. "There's other ways to have all nighters, but whatever floats your boat, doll." he teased, stopping once he reached the back of the elevator. Once there, he leaned back, but fell through the wall. With a small groan, he reentered the elevator, cautiously putting a hand to the wall before leaning against it again. He gave her a warning look not to say a word on the little slip up. He sometimes forgot to maintain a somewhat physical form, but he had gotten better at it as time went by. "Ah, I'd rather stick you on a blind date and enjoy the show." he joked. "I'd say that would be much more amusing, and worth paying."

Sione rolled her eyes at him, shaking her head. "I have my ways," she said casually. She kept her lips carefully sealed when he fell, pursing her lips to surpress her laugh. "Yes, well, I bet none of those ways are as convenient as coffee," she replied, for the sake of arguing. She leaned casually against the railing, her eyes narrowing as he mentioned a dating show. "Someone tried setting me up on a blind date in college," she reminisced, tilting her head up to look at the ceiling. "Suffice to say it didn't end well. For the guy or the restaurant." She turned her eyes to him, one eyebrow raised daintily. "Try something, tough guy, I've got connections with a great excorcist," she said sweetly, an angelic smile touching her lips. Her eyes glittered mischeivously as she winked at him, before looking up to see what floor they were on.

Russel smirked, shaking his own head. He was glad she didn't say, or laugh at his little blunder. "They sure were healthier. And didn't need to cost so much at every cafe or Starbucks." Even though he'd been rather young when he died, he tried to maintain himself in good heath when alive. Never done any horrible things, and kept his body in decent condition. By no means was he a heath nut however. Just, rationed himself fairly. Needless to say, some habits passed on with him. Raising an eyebrow, he glanced at her. "Did it?" Now that perked his interest. Unable to resist it, he asked. "What happened?" He tried not to seem a bit wary about her threat with the exorcist. He wasn't sure if she was playing around or telling the truth. "You wouldn't dare sell me out." he said, narrowing his eyes a tad. Once the elevator reached the third floor, he smirked. "You'd miss me too much, and you wouldn't compromise your ace in these cases."

She rolled her eyes at him, pushing her blonde hair back. "You couldn't force it out of me, even if you tried," she said, glancing at him. She stared at him for a second, and then a grin broke out on her pale pink lips. She had to admit, he was right; he had her ace. "I could probably manage without you," she said, as the elevator came to a stop. "But I wouldn't have anyone to mess with. Don't worry, I don't plan on getting rid of you anytime soon." A small thought ghosted across her mind- what if he had to leave her? His presence was never guaranteed- she'd woken up in a cold sweat more then a few times at the thought of him suddenly disappearing. She came to a stop a few steps away from the elevator, placing her hands on her hips and looking around the dark foyer for a moment.

Russel sighed softly before giving her a sly look. "Damn it.. I'll try to get it out of you yet. Could always possess you and get you a date." It was obviously a joke though. He had never really tried to possess anyone, nor wanted to do it. Her last statement made him smile a little. "Good. Cause then it would get awfully boring without anyone to talk with like a civilized person." She had been one of the only people that had actually talked with him. Instead of running away or calling some exorcist to try and shoo him. Since she had been so nice to him, he had helped her out with any case that was troublesome. It was nice being useful even now. Lately there was a surge of them though. He gained a slightly thoughtful expression as he followed Sione out of the elevator, not noticing someone walking through his side as the male walked out. "I wonder why all of a sudden there's so many crimes.."

Sione rolled her eyes at him again, knowing he wouldn't possess her. Especially not for something so trivial. She waited until they were alone to turn and face him, a thoughtful look on her face as she tried to figure it out. "I'm not sure," she said, her voice soft so that the night janitor wouldn't overhear. "Something is definitely going down in the spiritual community, I'm sure of that." She couldn't help a small frown- while she was convinced she was right, others weren't. They wanted hard evidence that Sione simply couldn't provide. Kind of hard to bring in a ghost that didn't want to be captured. "Come on, let's go," she said after a moment, turning back around. "My car is parked in the upper level." It would take forever to get there, but the upper level was the only place where she could park in peace during the day. She hated that place at night- it gave her the creeps. But at least she wouldn't be alone (technically speaking.)

The pale haired male sighed softly. There had been continuous unrest these past weeks with the other ghosts. Even he was feeling a bit off these days. Something nasty was going on. He did keep a few things hidden from Sione, since he was positive she would just blow it up out of proportions. There were some things better left hidden from the living. "I'll try to find out some more things, but.. No promises." Russel relented with a smirk. Giving a short nod, he started down the way. "Why must you park there when you Know you'll stay late at night?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Sione sighed, rolling her eyes at him. "I park all the way up there because the level closest to my office is where Ellison parks, too, and my truck barely fits past the entry way to the lower levels," she told him, changing the subject. God, Ellison was such a creep. He meant well enough, but she'd never liked overly touchy, overly cheery people. Well, you do hang out with the dead, she said, with a glance at Russel. She chuckled softly and shook her head, spinning her keys around her finger. "What, you getting to old for all those stairs," she asked, smirking at him.

Russel raised his other eyebrow before shrugging. "Maybe you just need a better car. As for Ellison, I told you that you should let me have a crack at him. A little spook might help put him in place." He didn't know how someone could be so, unbearably cheerful all the time. He was convinced that it was something of an act. Of course, he'd been forbidden to mess with him. Almost like a child. He didn't really know why he listened to her. Technically, he was the older figure of the two. "Oh shut it. You know me, always trying to catch up to you young 'uns." he joked, faking an old man tone. "But at least I can just float. Leave you aaaaall alone here and wait for you up there."

"For you're information, it's a truck, not a car. And I like it," she said defensively. It was a real monster, a big blue bronco that she'd gotten a few years back. "If someone tries to crash into me, I'm pretty sure I'd walk away completely okay." It was a well-known fact that Sione hated driving; a bad accident when she was younger had left her leery of the roads. "And you shouldn't use your powers for evil, and all that jazz," she said, sounding amused. "He only has the guts to try and bother me in the parking garage, so as long as I park up top, he can keep his throat." She pushed through the front door and out into the cool night air, a breeze tousling her hair slightly. "You wouldn't dare leave a poor, defenseless maiden all by herself, now would you," she said, in a mock maiden-in-distress voice.

Russel gave her a look of disbelief. "It is a car. You drive it, it has four wheels, a steering wheel, and you need gas to run it." he stated. To him it was mostly all the same. She just deemed it necessary to remind him just what she drove whenever he made the mistake of calling it one of it's smaller counterparts. Not that he needed reminding. The thing probably ate up any extra money she made just on gas. She was right though.. It did seem like it would survive a crash while the other car was unfortunate enough to be completely destroyed. "Well.. Just be careful and don't be reckless. How the hell am I supposed to stay around for you to get a date if you drive something so, unladylike?" he asked, amusement laced in his voice. He almost pouted at her telling him not to act evil. "Ah, but I've always fancied trying to become a poltergeist. Just to see what it feels like." He had been a bit of a troublemaker the first five years, but he'd gotten some common sense and figured out that it wasn't the way to go. That was when he'd decided to try his hand in problem solving. As they stepped outside, Russel smirked deviously before giving Sione a wink. "I see no such girl, sooo. I'll be off." And with that, he disappeared from her view. He was still close though, just out of sight to see what she would do.

Sione rolled her eyes at him- it was a truck, dammit, and she refused to let anyone acknowledge her baby as anything less. She couldn't even begin to count how many times Russel had made the mistake of calling her bronco something so insignificant as a car. She scoffed at his next remark, flicking a piece of blonde hair over her shoulder. "See, that's another great thing about my truck," she said. "It scares away all the fools who would even consider asking me out." She flashed him a wickedly sweet smile, then brushed her bangs out of her eyes. "Then I'd really have to excorsize you," she reminded him, crossing her arms against the chill of the night as she walked. "I would do it, too, so please don't go all Harvey Dent on me." It was a well-known fact (by Russel, anyways, who'd actually been in her apartment) that Sione was a geek at heart. She had a heavy metal keychain in the shape of the batman sign hanging off her keys, not to mention a thousand other little things she had lying around. She jumped, startled, when he disappeared, then cursed sharply. "Russel, I swear," she grumbled, then turned her back and began heading for the parking garage. "Fine, whatever, I can take care of myself anyways." It was hard to believe it when she was only 5'2" and maybe a hundred pounds when soaking wet, but Sione was actually a tough little cookie.
It was kind of a spooky night, if she admitted it to herself. At this time, this sector of the city was usually empty; people were out wasting their money on the strip or dancing in whatever club. A cold breeze whistled softly over the ground, causing leaves to skitter about. A full moon hung heavy on the horizon, obscured by the highway ramp that circled right next to the station. She crossed her arms even tighter and refused to think about it, looking both ways before crossing the street.

(I sense a perfect time for a kidnapping O.O)

Russel resisted a laugh as he followed her. However as he did so, he heard something from below. Giving a quick glance at his friend, he sighed. Good thing he was already invisible. she'd freak out if he suddenly left her. Again. Making up his mind, he quickly went to go check it out. It was not meant to be a long excursion but he didn't want any nasty surprises later.

Watching from the background, the brown haired male was quick to take action. He knew he didn't have much time to nab the girl before her friend decided to come back out. He quickly stepped out from his hiding spot, and once Sione crossed the street and passed an alleyway, he reached out from behind and pulled her into the alley by her arm. A piece of cloth soaked with formaldehyde being pressed against her mouth and nose. Sure, he felt slightly bad for doing this, but he was told to do so. If he consented, his reward would be beyond worth it. If not, then he'd pretty much be screwed.

Sione continued on to her car, digging through her jacket for something. "Hey, Russel, did you see where I put my gum," she asked, then waited for a reply. Silence met her. "You're so ridiculous," she said, rolling her eyes. She figured he was just playing a game on her- trying to make her believe that he was really gone. She didn't believe it for a second. "Fine, but next time you ask me something, don't be surprised if I somehow don't hear you." She passed a small alley, hearing the sounds of club music wafting down the dark brick alley- and then something went over her mouth as someone grabbed her arm and dragged her back, her eyes widening as a strange, chemical scent filled her nose. Before she could even scream, the world had grown hazy, and then things went dark as the world tilted up to meet her. Her body crumpled against the man holding the cloth to her mouth, her head lolling to the side.
