It is unfathomable the crisis that many people in Japan are dealing with now on a day to day basis. With cold weather, lack of basic necessities, and some hardly any shelter. I really hope that things will get better -- an ungodly quake, tsunami, and then radiation leaks-- ( they are lucky the didn't have a melt down) Poisonous water from radiation leak has a water crisis in true turmoil.

I just wanted to say, to all the people in Japan right now who are suffering, I hope somehow things get better. With 2012 coming soon and rumors of big solar flares happening world wide catastrophe could hit many other places. I don't want to spread fear but if someone has and knowledge scientifically what could be cosmically taking place-- please post it.

My heart goes out to all the lost and poor souls of Japan. :(
I don't have any of the information you are looking for, but if I find/hear anything, I will make sure I post it here.

I have heard all sorts of rumours about 2012 varying from the sun switching poles, to a mass spiritual awakening, to a world ending ect. Should this warrant panic? No. The 2012 drama stems from Mayan calendar which will be ending in 2012 which has kinda of snowballed into the weird and the ridiculous similar to what happened in 1999 when folks thought the end of the world would be upon us 2000. The end of the Mayan calendar does not signify death and destruction any more the end of my Grandmother's Cliff Richard calendar. Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions ect are natural phenomena. The only thing we can possible attribute to the odd weather we are having which has caused wide spread flooding is climate change. I would be more concerned about how man's actions have impacted upon the environment and what we can do to reverse the effects.

I think there's just some unrest going on in the plates Japan happens to unfortunately be sitting on.

It happens. I think we forget sometimes how frail and miraculous life is. Here we are, walking on what feels solid to us which is actually solidified surface rock over a constantly moving ball of molten magma. Add to that we have a superthin shield of air protecting us from the radiation of space.... it's terrible, but disasters happen.

There do seem to be a lot of strange natural disasters lately, but I don't believe in 2012. If you actually research into it, most of the books about it are actually claiming some kind of spiritual awakening... The problem is, though, that the same people claimed the exact same thing about 2000. A lot of the sites about it literally just changed the date when it failed to happen then, to 2012.

My heart aches for those in Japan. Dealing with the clean up, the loss, and everything they are going through right now is something unfathomable to me. I could never imagine in my wildest dreams having to go through what the Japanese are going through. In my life I have only experienced one earthquake and it was a baby compared to what Japan experienced and continues to experience. The earthquake on the Richter scale I experienced was a 3.5. Granted around here that's a pretty big earthquake but to them it is nothing.

I am very amazed at how they are handling the situation with such grace and such beauty. The way they handle their natural disasters are something everyone can learn from, in my opinion. As far as this being a precursor to 2012, I do not believe in the end of the world. I think that natural disasters happen, it just so happens that this one was on a very catastrophic scale.

Personally, I think the Mayan calendar just stops there because they could not chart any further. Not to mention they weren't known for being mathematical geniuses. What I think we should all be worrying about is the global warming that is causing this. We have ripped one too many holes in the Ozone layer through sending rockets into space. Yes, I know space has to be explored but you can imagine the kind of damage rocket fuel has done to the ozone.

Also, if we didn't have the massive amounts of technology we have today, do you honestly think we would have known about the disaster in Japan? Probably not. Think about all the natural disasters that probably happened even in the USA alone that we don't know about due to a lack of technology at the time.

Thanks for all of your responses, yes, the Japanese are a very proud nation and are very strong willed. My heart still aches for all of those poor people and souls stolen away by such a catastrophe. To everyone else about the 2012 issue is that scientifically I have heard there could be a lot of different activity such as alignments and different astronomical happenings. I'm not quite sure, but I have heard of some.

It is true that man is ruining our planet and while the rich 2% of the world control it and pollute it with whatever because they have the power of executive decisions, we all will be the ones who will suffer from greedy individuals who only think of themselves and not of our existences as a whole.

...Actually, they stopped there because foreigners came in and slaughtered them all.
And yes... they WERE known for being mathematical geniuses. xP

Thank you so much for the logic.

All this 2012 whoo-ha is just ridiculous. This isn't to offend the op or anyone else, but the Mayan calender's ending does not symbolize the end of the world. In fact, I hear that it meant something else that dealt with starting over or something like that, I can't remember at the moment, but I find that everyone getting stirred up over 2012 is just...dumb (For lack of better words).

The worst thing that can happen on that day, is riots, because everyone is scaring each other with the rumor. Even if that day were to happen, what could possibly be done about it? Nothing at all. Plus, I don't like the fact that everyone is so adamant about it, that they're scaring children and everyone else into thinking they won't live life past next year and whatnot. It's like we're getting ready for something that won't be survivable in the first place, just like Y2K.

I know a lady who has moved to France to prepare for when in 2012 the sun's magnetic poles change which will render electricity useless and bring about a golden age of eco-friendly living. Crazy.
I don't think many people will take much notice. It will just another year that comes and goes...

That's actually a very logical explanation why the Mayans stopped the calendar when they did-- the outsiders killed them off. It would make sense... aren't there other calendars that end on pretty much the same date from other ancient societies?

@Moogle ~ Well, I'm not sure I believe if its going to be appocalyptic or not one way or another-- but it seems to suggest some kind of change-- but what -- I'm not sure if anyone truly knows.
