So, I was watching Nickelodeon today because nothing else was on, and an advertisement came on for those Polly Pocket dolls. I had SO many of those things when I was a little girl. They were cool back then! Come to see that a few years later they've destroyed them and Polly Pockets now look like overpriced McDonald's toys. Ugh.

So my question is this: what have they ruined for you? What used to be better and now sucks? It can be anything. From food, to old toys, cartoons, car models...etc.

Feel free to post before and after pictures!

Ah, see I grew up with the first Polly Pocket that was even different from that:

To me, your "good" version is the ruined one.

Everything changes over time, so it doesn't particularly bother me when toys/food/shows get a make-over. These things appeal to a very specific demographic, so they've got to continually stay young and fresh. Styles change (and in this case, safety measures get stricter too.)

When I was a kid, polly pockets didn't even look like that...they looked like this;

They came in little "house" things you could actually fit into a really big pocket.

So like the ones Knerd had. I think the "new" bigger ones are garbage, if I wanted a bigger doll I could dress up, I'd have asked for a barbie. At least her clothes were cloth and I could modify them as I saw fit.

But shit changes, especially stuff like toys, so I'm not surprised--I've been seeing advertisements for the "new" polly pockets for years. Never really liked them anyway--I wish I could find my old ones (in the picture, I had the one on the left, and the one in the middle, and they were AWESOME...But I can't find them anymore. xD)

The only thing I really think of right now is the Disney channel. There used to be great shows like 'Boy Meets World', 'Even Stevens', and 'Lizzie McGuire'! I miss them so much! I also miss the movie nights, they'd always play a movie at 8pm and on Friday they would play two movies back-to-back... all this new crap 'Hannah Montana' and 'Wizards of Waverly Place' can't compare to the old Disney.

It pretty much goes for most leisure/entertainment pursuits -- one generation loves it, the older generation thinks its inferior trash to the stuff they had, and the younger generation thinks it's old fashioned and goofy. It's like Bratz dolls to me -- they look like streetwalkers to me no matter what, but to the generation who had those, they are just great, but to each her own...

Haha. Yeah. I remember those, too. But I discovered the Polly Pockets when they came out with the rubber clothes and the bigger dolls. I probably would've been obsessed with the original Pollys if I'd known about them when they were in that style.

Let's see...I can only think of a million times that my favorite product lines got rid of their best products. St. Ives got rid of my favorite hydrating lotion. Ruined it for me. I can't use their stuff anymore.

----------

Wait?! Disney Channel got rid of their movies? *seethes* horrible.

Oh, how I miss those Polly Pockets!

And I was a huge Barbie girl back when I was younger. And honestly, I hated when they changed the body type. The new Barbies had a smaller waist and a bigger bosom. >.> They, to me, were trying to make her more sexually attractive. And her measurements would be unreal. If I believe correctly they would be something like a 20 inch waist, 27 inch bust, and 29 inch hips. Below is a link to an image of the old body vs. the new one. Mind you, the dolls' bodies are nude.

Most tv shows now a days. More specifically, reality shows and cartoons.
I can't stand shows like american idol or any of those shows centred around a certain family or whatever.
And today's cartoons are just terrible.

Here's one for you...and I'm sure a lot of you will role your eyes.

When I was a kid growing up, I recall be ever so delighted to wake up early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons, I grew up with The Orginal, Scooby-Doo, Johny Quest, Flintstones, Jetsons, etc...now...we've been completely overwhelmed by entirely moronic shows like Sponge-Bob, Misadvntures of Flapjack, Adventure Time, and other such filth.

She is supposed to be, but I don't know sometimes. I remember a few years ago they had a "College Style Barbie" -- with crayons for her and a coloring book. I never had any of those classes...:rawrmayor:

Wellll, yeah. They've done some questionable crap--but, she is just a doll, and you can only take it so seriously. xD

The thing is that little girls don't understand what to take seriously and what not to take seriously.

I do find this interesting, however:

Barbies have always been a bad role model for normal body types.

Am I the only one just noticing the Giraffe neck?

Some people consider a long neck a sign of beauty...

I don't know -- her neck doesn't bother me. She's cute when it comes right down to it. I never was much into barbies except when I played barbie baseball with them, man when you throw one up in the air and then whack it with another one, they can fly clear right across a field like nobody's business.

Actually, I do not have a good track record with dolls -- I threw my Superman doll out the car window as a little kid thinking he could actually fly and then threw a fit when mom would not turn the car around a busy highway for me to save him. Go figure. ;)

And I don't want to even go with the Ken doll I got for my birthday as a toddler -- he had some sort of wiggy facial hair and I just flipped my lid...

@Alexandra: Hahahaha. I'd never even heard of a Ken doll with facial hair. That's...wrong...just sooo wrong.

Honestly, I think they're attractive too. I thought the original ones were *cough* hideous...so you won't see me complaining about that transition here.

I do recall seeing some unacceptably skinny Barbie dolls on the market, recently, however. I just can't find any pictures that show what I'm talking about.

I also think they ruined the show "American Dragon: Jake Long" when they went from

this style:

I've hated the new age polly pockets. What happened to the days when you could take her with you ANYWHERE, and her home...IN YOUR POCKET. Did you know that they also have movies? My daughters were watching Barbie...something or another and there was an advertisement for a Polyworld movie, she plays in a band called...Polly...and the Pockets. lulz.

I had the poly pockets like Knerd and Monstahh. Man, I loved those things. I even had the shoes from payless with the poly in the little plastic capsule...and when the shoes were worn out I cut those suckers up and had a new doll! xD

FUCKING YODELS. There are also the Little Debbie version for those of you who don't have Drake foods.

they used to be big and you could peel the chocolate off and eat it...now I could put the whole thing in my mouth, they aren't as chocolatey and they chocolate won't peel off the cake.

Those old Polly Pockets were AWESOME...i had sneakers with the little dolls inside them.

Wow, you must be really young. :gonk: I had the small ones that had the little houses, like some other people posted. I was going to come in here and say something to the effect of, they changed Polly Pocket a long time ago because I remember years ago seeing that they were huge now. To me the ones you had are the weird changed ones. I didn't know they had changed them yet again. Though to be honest, the newest ones don't look all that different from the first one you posted. They're both huge and have clothes which is totally different from what they originally were. >.<

Actually, I'm almost 19. I guess I didn't really realize that Polly Pockets existed until I was about ten and by then they had changed. Lol.

To me, the two that I posted are extremely different. I loved the weird rubber clothes and the fact that the doll was actually a doll, but she was small enough to fit in your pocket! Like a miniature Barbie. =3 The new ones look like little girls, and they're hideous. To me. Anyway.

Anywhoo...you want a HUGE Polly Pocket? How about this one?

There ain't much pocket sized about that thing.
