Reaching over, Naomi touched a finger to the reconstituted leaf. A soft-looking fuzz of frost formed on the surface, although she took care not to let it spread to Osanna's skin.

Thomas blinked and leaned in for a closer look. He'd never seen anything like that before. As far as he knew, it wasn't possible to revive anything like that.

Osanna grinned, holding out her hand for him to inspect the leaf. She was proud of her accomplishment, however small. It was hard to revive plants, dammit. Especially from withering.

Harry whistled softly. "Hell's bells."

Thomas took the leaf to look at it more closely.

"Empty night..." he murmured. That was something that definitely had possibilities.

You look entirely too smug, Naomi teased Osanna. Although that was kind of impressive, before I completely undid all your hard work.

Osanna just grinned. Hey, I don't mind. You're allowed to show off too. Besides, the poor thing probably wouldn't have lasted the night.

Harry turned and looked at the two girls with new respect, his eyebrows shooting up. Well. He was officially impressed.

Yeah, this place doesn't seem like it would help plants thrive, Naomi agreed. They seem a little speechless.

Thomas handed the leaf back. It was already wilting and turning brown in a few spots.

Osanna nodded, taking the leaf back. It's always fun to do that. She grinned, knowing that Naomi liked to do that too.

Harry looked between the two of them for a few moments. "So that's what you do."

Osanna nodded with a big grin.

"Like I said, Osa plays around with plants," Naomi said. She grinned. "I just tend to give them frostbite."

Osanna rolled her eyes and shoved Naomi playfully.

Harry shook his head, watching as Osanna set the leaf aside again. It had revived a little with proximity to her, but when she set it next to Harry, it started to wither again. Harry was clearly going through the implications in his head. Although he was rather surprised Thomas hadn't tried hitting on them yet.

To be honest, Thomas was a little surprised himself. He'd considered flirting with the girls, and had, a little, but he didn't take it any further than that. Something about it just didn't seem quite right.

Naomi rolled her eyes and gave Osanna a playful shove back, then poked the wilted little leaf.

"What was this in its past life, anyways?" she asked. They all looked about the same to her.

Um. This one was nightshade. Osanna shrugged. It should be more potent now, too.

Harry looked at Naomi for the translation.

"Osa, it's half-dead," Naomi deadpanned. It didn't make sense that whatever-it-was would be more potent while being less alive. Shaking her head, she still translated to the others.

Harry shook his head. Well, that could be useful next time he needed to use nightshade for something. Bob would probably love to interrogate those two.

Osanna just shook her head at her friend, curling her knees up to her chest sitting on the couch.

Naomi sat down next to her friend. Now that the pleasantries were out of the way and they were all now well-informed of how supernatural the others were, an awkward silence was starting to stretch out.

The next day, Harry's head jerked up from a book he was poring over. He'd felt someone cross over into Chicago from Fae. And he wasn't sure who it was. He got up slowly, glancing over at the girls and motioning for them to stay.

Osanna blinked, looking up from where she was playing with Mouse.

Naomi looked up, too, wondering what was going. There was a tension in the air that wasn't there a moment before. It wasn't all that strong, but the relaxed feel that was there was gone.

Harry looked up and grabbed his staff and rod when something sizzled against his wards around his apartment. Then someone knocked on the door.

"Really, Godchild," Lea said, sounding disapproving. "Need I let myself in?"

Harry's eyes narrowed but he went over and opened the door. "Lea."

Naomi looked over at the door, and moved back just slightly when she saw the person there. There was something about the woman that set her teeth on edge, and it made Naomi very sure she didn't want to get on the woman's bad side.

"Your... pupil has wandered into Winter," Lea said, looking both pleased and mildly annoyed. "I'll tell you that for free."

Harry's eyes narrowed. Hell's bells. He nodded though, watching to see if she had anything else to say.

"You'd better hurry, Godchild," Lea said. "Before she gets into more trouble." And then she left, apparently done.

Naomi glanced over at Osanna. Whatever was going on, it wasn't good. She still wasn't sure who the inhumanly lovely woman was, but it seemed like now wasn't the time to try to figure it out.

Harry let out an aggravated sigh before he turned to the two girls.

"Come on, we're taking a little trip." He didn't feel like he could leave them there alone, so he would just have to take them with.

Naomi blinked. She got the feeling she was missing a lot of details, here.

"Okay," she said. "Am I allowed to ask what's going on?"

"My student," Harry said with a little grimace. "She got somewhere she's not supposed to be. It's a place called Faerie. We have to go get her. Just stay close to me and everything should be fine."

"Interesting..." Naomi murmured. Looks like it was time for a field trip. And it looked like it was going to be a learning experience, too. A sudden thought occurred to her, and she glanced at Osanna. Am I the only one who suddenly thought about The Sorcerer's Apprentice?

Now you're not. Osanna couldn't help but grin, even as Harry got his rod, his staff, and tucked his gun away in his pocket.

"Come on, Mouse," he said. Mouse went over to Harry instead of by Osanna, as he had been for the past day.

I thought so, Naomi said. She was sure she'd be able to make a few more jokes before all was said and done, but for the moment, she was fresh out of smart remarks.
