"We're trying to figure most of that out ourselves," Naomi replied, watching the gun. "Really, we're harmless, no need to point that at us."

"Right. I'm sure you'd just love that." Duo kept the gun aimed at Naomi, looking them both over swiftly. Well, they definitely weren't dressed like anyone he'd seen before. And they didn't seem to have anything overly unusual with them; no tools, no equipment, no bags to hide things in...

Worst thieves ever.

"Really, I would," Naomi replied, still watching the gun. "We have no idea where we are at the moment, and we were here for about thirty seconds before you showed up." She didn't say that she had no idea how they got there, because she knew exactly how they got there and intended to threaten the book with fire if it didn't take them home again after this whole situation was resolved.

Duo eyed them suspiciously. "Yeah, I'm sure that's the truth." Because it wouldn't be the first time someone had tried to steal his work, and he wasn't about to let that happen. "Over there. Slowly." He pointed to a blank wall so he could keep an eye on them more easily.

Osanna moved over obediently. Hey, she wasn't about to argue with the guy with the gun.

Naomi did, too. She wasn't stupid enough to argue, just like she wasn't durable enough to survive it if she did.

Duo looked at them for several moments, frowning. They didn't look normal. He couldn't pinpoint why, but something seemed off about them. He just couldn't figure out what.

"Where are you from?" he asked after a few moments. Their clothes were odd enough that he should be able to place the colony, but he couldn't.

"That's a really difficult question to answer," Naomi said carefully. "It involves a little magic and a lot of irritation and you probably won't believe me if I tell you."

Duo snorted. "What colony are you from?" Because they had to be from a colony. Or Earth. And really there was no such thing as magic.

Osanna blinked. Colony? What?

"...What do you mean?" Naomi asked. "I really have no idea what you're talking about." She glanced at Osanna. "Okay, neither of us do."

Duo frowned. There was something really wrong with that. "If you're not from one of the colonies are you from Earth?"

Osanna nodded. Because really who wasn't from Earth?

Naomi, however, paused before answering. Somehow, there was something about the question that didn't seem right.

"What are the Colonies?" she asked slowly. "And how are they different from Earth?"

Duo snorted, thinking they were just yanking his chain. Then he realized that they looked genuinely confused, and people couldn't just fake that sort of thing. Plus he didn't find any weapons on them, and they didn't have the same look as the people in the colonies did. Slowly he lowered his weapon, moving back a few steps.

"You're serious. You don't know."

"No, we really don't know," Naomi replied. "And I'd really, really appreciate it if you could explain it in small words easily understood by the average person."

Duo blinked, looking between the two. "We overran Earth," he said after a moment. "Moved out into space, into the colonies. That's where a lot of people live now. That's where you are now, actually."

Osanna blinked, too stunned to do more than that. Because seriously?! She was going to light that book on fire.

"Out in space?" Naomi repeated after a moment. "You're telling me we're in space. Right now." She blinked for a moment. "That doesn't seem possible."

Duo snorted. "You're definitely not from here," he muttered. "Where are you from?" His eyes brightened with curiosity as he moved over to one of his precious machines.

"If I say another dimension, would you believe me?" Naomi asked, watching him.

"No way." Duo eyed her, clearly wondering if the two were crazy. Or something. Because another dimension? No freaking way.

"You've got floating space-bubbles and giant robots, but you don't believe we're from another dimension?" Naomi asked. It was all about the same level of weirdness, for her.

"No," Duo said, his voice flat. "I don't."

Osanna pulled out her pen and paper. Maybe you should demonstrate, Naomi. Pull something over from our world.

Duo had to blink at that. Pen and paper? Really? No one used that anymore.

Naomi nodded, and reached into her bag for the Book.

"I will put a torch to you if you don't behave," she muttered to it. "I'm not amused." She opened it to the blank pages. "Bring me my iPod, please. I think people here might actually appreciate what it is. Or my laptop, either one. But only those, and set them carefully on the floor right in front of me." Because she wasn't giving the Book any leeway, after this stunt.

The Book was clearly not pleased either, but it set both items in front of her.

Duo blinked at that. Okay, yeah, he'd never seen that before. This was very weird, even for the gundam pilot.

Closing the Book, Naomi put it back into her bag and picked up her iPod. Turning it on to check the power, she grinned.

"I missed my technology," she sighed, putting the thing in her pocket. Then she picked up her laptop and examined in quickly to make sure it had made the trip okay.

"...Is that actually a computer?" Duo looked slightly horrified and slightly fascinated. He hadn't seen one like that in years. Sure, computers still existed, but not like that.

"It is," Naomi replied, a little defensively. "It's only a few years old. I might not be all that kind to my hardware, but it serves me well."
