Well really, I'm not. I just feel behind when everyone seems to talk about the newest console or PC games that everyone's shelling out tons of money for. I just can't get the absolute hang of a lot of this new stuff, what normally appeals to me are "old school" and indie games these days. In fact, sometimes even PS2 Era graphics sometimes make me go "This is pretty awesome," and when I look at things like the latest COD, I blink my eyes and say to myself, "Is this really necessary?" It just seems to feel that the biggest games today are getting a tiny bit too far ahead of me.
Now, I'm not completely out of the loop, I'm not just some nostalgia nut. I know there are exceptions to the rule (Portal 2, although I can't play it due to computer restrictions, I'm looking t you). I play around on Steam, I have a bunch of games along with it too. Open source too. I try to get whatever I like and such, and try to get different looking titles whenever I can. Maybe I'm looking the wrong direction, I don't know. But a lot of the biggest games you see advertised are either:
1. 3D effects that hurt my head. Now, I know that you can turn it off almost every time but having a system with that as it's main selling point is just a bit too much for a gimmick. (3DS I'm looking at you)
2. A copy/paste scenario that feels tried too much, and almost jarring in some cases when you think about it. I know I shouldn't care that much for a story and games like mega man were the same exact thing over and over, but this kind of takes me out of the game as a whole if it's a completely different game with about the same story.
3. Graphics that are so realistic that they leave nothing to the imagination at all. This, when it comes down to it isn't exactly a bad thing. However, in some cases it feels like the designers skimp on originality a bit when the flashy awesome designs of the same person imo.
4. Remakes, again and again, or just something that only banks on bringing old gameplay back and nothing else... I like having the originals OK? And I would rather play those instead of the same game with better looking pixels and one feature.
Anyone agree with me or not?

That's what they said about FMV games way back in the early nineties....

A lot of people prefer older games to newer ones. It's really nothing special or out of the ordinary.

I wasn't even around when some of my favourite games where made xD It's nothing weird. I too find that quite a lot of games now-a-days are pretty terrible and gimmicky :/ (with a few exceptions)
I myself love the old King's Quest type puzzle/adventure games! I love the graphics; so old... xD

Well, I agree on some points. I myself prefer older games to newer ones- their imperfections is what makes them preferable and so loveable. Plus, it seems like with modern games all it takes to get a good rating is good graphics- plot and good gameplay is no longer a requirement. Yes, there are some new and original games that are and have come out that are great fun to look forward to and play, at the same time though, the popularity of newer games has gone down. Also, with graphics I've noticed that sometimes the graphics are too good- like for example in a first person game the graphics are so advanced that you can see the wrinkles and veins on the back of someone's hand.... That's just a bit too much for me. I like to have a game that concentrates on other aspects of the gaming experience; graphics are nice, but overall not the most important thing.
Recent Final Fantasy games aren't selling, same thing with recent Zelda games- and those are only a couple examples. I think the reason why they're going back and remaking oldies is because they know that they've lost something in their newer games that their older games have. So I can only agree halfway on remakes, because I think in some manners they're necessary. However, completely redesigning a series, as they have done with Tomb Raider and Devil May Cry, takes away from the great feel and love that gamers have come to expect, and I disagree with that being necessary.
As for the 3ds, I agree that it's murder on the eyes. However, the system still has some great fun features otherwise, and I have to say that the 3d concept is not it's only selling point. Plus, when you consider that all the other DS systems have essentially been shoddy remakes of the original with one or two added features, you have to admit the 3DS is a really amazing system that nintendo actually didn't have ass.
So I sorta agree with you.

I'm with you. I don't mind watching other people play newer games but for myself, I rarely play anything beyond my ps2. My favorite games are all psx, ps2, or snes remakes for the psx/2. I love me some old turn based rpgs.

I remember when I started gaming.
The first MMO I played was Ragnarok Online. For those of you who don't know, the game has pretty simple graphics. It used to give me the worst headaches. .___.;;
Nowadays, I can play those 3D suckers no problem.
... Well. Some problem. /eyes shitty computer with distaste

A lot of the graphics now are a bit too dark (literally, not thematically) I think but otherwise I'm loving the newer games and I am OLD.
Recent Final Fantasy games have been poorly developed, which is a great shame, because I can always go for a nice colorful fantasy rpg (regardless of which game company puts it out.)

I am old, and I prefer the simpler puzzle games mostly because I'm low on time. I wish I could have the time and money to get into the latest and greatest. I wish I could get the wii system, but when would I have time to play? There's only so many hours in the day. Too many games, so little time! I'm usually falling asleep by the time my twins are in bed.

I'm wondering if that might be attributed to designers picking their color palettes with flatscreen T.V.s in mind.
