In the lush valley at the foot of Tyrmanhal mountain lay the bright, flourishing town of Tyrsal, well known for it's unique goods and endless hospitality. The town, however, is overshadowed by the better-known legend that lay under the mountain: The glorious tale of the defeat of the Lich King Salhae and the monstrous Dracolich, Gurgrenon. The legend draws in adventurers from across the lands, all seeking to the win endless fame and fortune of finding the resting place of the evil Warlock and his "pet".

~The legend~
Centuries ago, the town of Tyrsal was known as Eitridalur(Valley of Eitri), ruled by the Dwarves that inhabited the mountain, then known as Brokkfjall(Mountain of Brokk). They lived in peace with other races,(even the occasional Elf) sharing the town and Valley below their precious mountain, but the peace was short-lived.
After barely half a century, the sleepy town was torn apart as a man that had gone missing a year ago returned, flanked by a huge zombified black dragon, the terror from across the mountain range known as Gurgenon. The Dwarves holed themselves away in the mountain, claiming the humans were trying to take rule over their lands even though just as many of them fell to the deadly magic of the man and beast.
The take-over was easy for the warlock and his Dracolich. The town fell under the shadow of the beast and the mountain was cracked as easily as an eggshell, the Dwarves forced to surrender. Salhae, the warlock, enslaved the Dwarves, forcing them to dig him a fearsome maze into the mountain, taking all the bounty of the stone for himself and hiding it throughout, filling the rooms with hazardous traps and spells to kill any that came near his treasures.
to further warn against intruders and rebel uprisings, he gathered the surviving spellcasters from the town and forcibly turned them into a powerful form of the undead, making a small Lich army to terrorize the people into doing as they were told.
The evil tyrant ruled over Eitridalur, which he called Saldalur, for over a hundred years, falling only when a young Paladin, Lord Tyr III, rallied the strongest of fighters from across the region. Salhae sneered at them, arrogant in his belief he and his stone labyrinth could not be taken.
Where he had arrogance, the small army of Lord Tyr had faith and burning will. They stormed the mountain stronghold, Killing the Lich forces of Salhae and freeing the dwarves, adding to their forces until they chased the Warlock to the deepest cavern, the home of Gurgenon. There, the Paladin and his followers fought the warlock and dragon, many a fighter falling to the ground at the clawed feet of the Dracolich before he and the wicked mage were destroyed.
Lord Tyr was crowned king, the mountain and town named after him as he ordered the labyrinth sealed, the final resting place of Salhae, The Lich King, was to never be disturbed again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was not to be, however, for a greedy decedent of the paladin, Lord Tyr XI, allowed a group of adventurers to enter the labyrinth, charging them with a percentage of the spoils. The adventurers were shocked as the stone corridors proved to be no where near as desolate as was thought, a plethora of strange creatures and warped animals hiding in the shadows and crevices.
The King took even more advantage of the mountain halls then, offering "rewards" to young and old adventurers alike, challenging them to delve as deep as they dare, the ultimate prize being the one to find the final resting place of the Lich King. Eventually, at the insistence of his queen, He employed mages to set up glowing crystals in certain spots as safe resting places within the stone halls, and to create special portals, allowing those who need to retreat quickly and safely to get back into the town's temple.
Many have tried, only to turn back and many tried, only to have lost their lives to the trials of the chambers below the mountain. To this day, there are only two known to have reached the last chamber. One lived their life out to the fullest, bathing in the glory and riches for years, only to mysteriously die, clutching a small gold idol he had supposedly taken from the chamber. The other victor had come out of the caves in a state of shock, shaking and mumbling incoherently for three days before dying at the victory celebration.
The current king, Lord Tyr XIII, still offers the reward to any who dare to enter the maze, though he is found to be much more earnest than his Grandfather, offering any who survive the dangerous pilgrimage of his ancestor fame and fortune as a hero of Trysal.
Will you, brave adventurer, dare to enter the Labyrinth? Will you come out as a craven dog, tail between your legs? Will you succeed, to be given the highest of honors as a hero? Or will you be overcome, and perish in the hazardous catacombs?
~The town of Tyrsal~
As you follow the hardened dirt road past the fields of green and gold crops, the lively atmosphere and clean mountain air are the first things one notices about the town. The road leads past a scattering of houses with waving people and giggling children and into the town square, the loud and colorful open marketplace welcoming strangers with warm smiles and the lowest prices of the kingdom.
From the square, you can see the closely-placed stone and wood houses that spread in every direction, the divisions dotted with the odd shop or two. To the right of the road, on the edge of the market, is a warmly lit, well kept tavern, a popular stay for the visitors. Down past the shop stalls, towards the looming Mountain, lay the back-streets, littered with shabby houses and unscrupulous-looking, yet interesting shops. Along the road there is a smaller, cheaper, but more dangerous looking tavern, for those who like to take a gamble.
Beyond the low houses, to the west, you can see the stunning manor that is the home of Lord Tyr rising out of the low, rocky mountains that encompass the town. The path up the rocky hill is lit by the same beautiful crystals that mark safe spots in the labyrinth, giving it a beautiful, almost unnatural glow.
To the north, beyond the patch of dense forest at the foot of the mountain, the winding path that cuts into the mountain can clearly be seen. Huge pillars that mark the entrance to the labyrinth stand out of the rough stone for all to see, either as a welcome, or a warning.
Come, stay a while and enjoy the sights while you rest your legs. Take a gander about the market too, you never know what marvels our shaded stalls will hold.
Zenfoid stood against a wall looking around at the towns people. He sighed, All of them seem so happy. If they only knew how curial life is. He thought as he pushed off the wall and made his way to the center of the Market. When he got there he looked around the next thing he thought he said aloud. "Do I go to the Palace or straight to the Mountain?" Zenfoid hoped somebody heard him so he would not have to go and really talk to anybody. He stood where he was and waited.
The weather wasn't agreeing with the silk and organza clad woman. Yuukana felt like she would melt, much like the snow from her native home. Everywhere the greens and golds of the fields reminded her how very far she was from the snow capped mountains. Unladylike sweat beaded upon her forehead in weather that others would have considered nice and mild. Her sturdy harp banged against her hip, reminding her that she needed to stop and pause in order to gain the coin she needed to survive. A village, seemingly filled with cheerful happy people welcomed Yuune. The market was in full swing with vendors eagerly yelling out to sell their wares.
Amethyst eyes searched the throng for a clear spot , and sparkled when one was found. Quickly Yuukana stepped forward in her soft leather slippers to claim the area between a jeweler and a pastry vendor. Unhooking her harp, she set a bowl in front of herself and began to draw a sweet melody from the instrument. Somehow the music carried over the surrounding din in an unobtrusive way. A few kind people came forward to drop a copper or two into the bowl, while others simply watched and listened. Of course there were some who were not interested at all in such display.
"Come ON Franky! Get up!" A small girl kicked at the dirt road that her large bird had sat down on. She prodded him with a solid wooded staff, holding it in only one hand. The other hand couldn't be seen, it appeared as it it was tied into her sleeve, if she had one at all. Lifting its head off the dusty ground, the beady eyes blankly stared up, a thick duck-like bill opened. "GRONK!". The girl threw her arm up in defeat, "Fine you dumb bird. Just sit in the middle of the road, see if I care! I'm sure one of these merchants would love to try to cook you."
The said merchants looked at her and the bird and continued to ignore them both, they had seen stranger people come through the village because of the mountain. Despite the weather she was dressed in heavy layers of sweaters and jackets, the bird had a harness and several large packs strapped to his large body. The bird looked away from his owner back down to the road, seeing several rocks he picked them up one at a time and moved them three feet to the left, as far as he could. No longer paying attention he didn't see as his human moved around to his side and sat on his thick body. "GRONK!!!" startled he stood up, the girl still sitting on his back, riding him like a pony.
Music filled the Market and this peaked Zenfoid's attention. The woman playing the harp had an odd color to her eyes he walked forward to get a better look. As he did he realized her skin was very pale and many layers. Zenfoid just stood, watched, and listened. For the first time, in many years Zenfoid smiled. Zenfoid reached into his pocket and gave the women some change in her bowl, he didn't even look to see how much. Then he backed up and listened some more, smiling.
Yuune paused in her playing to stretch her fingers and smile at the white haired man who seemed to be enjoying her music so much, and had been so generous. She began again, a lilting tune full of leaps and twists that invited those listening into a world of blizzards. The sounds were as soft as the snowflakes that they tried to imitate. A smile was plastered on her face the whole time slightly obscured by the, nearly black, blue hair that flowed around her visage. Her white skin was tinted blue across Yuukana's cheeks with a blush she did not know she displayed.
Silthryk stepped out of the dingy tavern, blinking as his eyes were suddenly reintroduced to the bright sunlight. He took a deep breath, stretching his arms as he stared up the road towards the mountain. He sighed a little, and tightened his belt, a couple of his various pouches jingling as he did. "Alright, so I have to restock, and I should probably rest a night before I try going back in there." he said to no one in particular as he raised his gaze to the carved pillars on the mountainside.
Whistling a light tune, he made his way to the market place, stopping only to give a roguishly charming smile and wink at a group of young women, who giggled and blushed appropriately. He slid into the crowds with practiced ease, quickly arriving at the first of his stops.
After purchasing a few replacement items from a weapons stall, he heard a commotion over the sweet music that had started. He was a bit drawn to the sounds of the harp, but the sound of a young woman yelling was more intriguing, thus he found himself towards the middle of the square, looking at a human woman atop a strange looking bird. "Quite the steed you have there." He said, giving a smile as he studied her with his sharp eyes. She seemed quite eclectic, her belt and the saddle of her bird littered with various bags and shiny things.
Zenfoid waited for the next harp piece to end before walking forward. "Hello," he said standing about a foot in front of the women, "You play very nicely, May I ask where you learned that skill?" His smile was still on his face and he noticed a change in the color of her face that he assumed as blushing. Great she likes me Thought Zenfoid and the smile shrunk a little.
Naem walked up the road, green eyes taking in the town as she did. She resettled her cloak about her, hiding her weapons and buckler, as well as her small bag of necessities, before she entered the square. Looking around, she noticed the large bird and rider, raising an eyebrow before following her ears to find the music player. The tune somehow reminded her of the few bad snowstorms she'd been stuck in, and she wanted to see what kind of person could capture such a thing with a harp. Catching sight of the silk clad woman, she slid to one side of the crowd to watch her play, left hand reaching into a pouch to produce a silver piece and flip it into her bowl.
Yuukana took an hesitant step back once her song was finished, bringing her harp up to obscure the lower half of her face. She wasn't used to any stranger approaching her. It was only the beginning of her travels, and as yet nothing like this had happened to her yet. "M-my adoptive mother taught me, many years ago." She regarded the man a little suspiciously. He wore no shirt, and carried a few weapons that she could see.
Yuune had no idea what to do next, her leg muscles quivered as she prepared to run like a startled deer at any sign of danger or trouble. So absorbed was she in her plight, she did not even notice the young woman on the strange bird entering the market. Rather her eyes latched onto a late arrival in the crow. A red- headed woman who looked like she could take care of herself. Yuukana decided that it was behind her she would run, if something dire did occur.
(Can you work with this Kina?)
Naem's eyebrow twitched up a little when the harpist's eyes fell on her. She looked troubled, as if the man in front of her was someone to run away from. Taking a better look at the two, she decided that, to someone as seemingly soft as the harpist, the bare-chested warrior would be someone to run from. She tugged her cloak open a little, watching and waiting to see if someone would need to step in, though the man didn't seem to fond of something, either. Perhaps this would only be one of the many misunderstandings she had seen happen, and turn out better than most she had witnessed.
Zenfoid held up his hands slowly treating the women like a scared animal. "I am not going to hurt you, your music just reminded me of my mother is all I was coming to thank you for that." Zenfoid's smile had left his face by now, "Sorry to scare you." he said a little quieter turned on his heel and started to walk away.
A feeling of guilt seeped trough Yuukana. She lifted one hand and reached out. "Wait!" It was a hesitant word, that seemed to tremble for a few moments upon the yuki onna's lips. "This is my first time away from my home, I am easily frightened." It was as much of an apology for her assumptions as she could manage without knowing the elf. When he had turned, Yuune had glimpsed a pointed hair peeking out from his white hair." I am glad my music made you smile, truly I am." It was one of the things she loved about music. It brought people together, and reminded them of happy times. It let people live their emotions freely trough songs, without hurting anyone. Turning her gaze to the nearby red-head she smiled, to show that she was fine. Yuune had noticed that the other had been willing to help.
Naem smiled back at the pale woman, glad that it had indeed turned out better. Nothing could ruin a day as fast as a fight in a market over nothing. "I am curious, where do you hail from, and how did you manage to play up a snowstorm in my memory?" she asked, letting the cloak fall back to being almost closed. The heat from it didn't bother her in the least.
Turning to the woman with a smile, Yuune bowed her head in greeting. "From the high mountains where snow is abundant and the people are few. My mother always taught me to translate what I know best into music, and that is what I attempted to do with that song. It is heartening to know that it worked with this one melody at least." Yuukana eyed the cloak, and could feel more sweat beading upon her at the thought of wearing something of the sort. The weather was mild for those used to it, for her though it was far too warm. Turning her head she glanced at the nearby mountain longingly. Perhaps there lay relief from the heat.
"Hey there mister!" she waved her free arm at him as a greeting. The arm only went so far as where the elbow should be, the jacket she wore was tied off at that point. "Were you talking about Francois? He's not much of a steed per say, just my Gronk bird... No Franky! Stop that!" the bird dropped his head to pick up another rock in his rubbery bill. He stomped over to the explorer and dropped the rock at his feet. The bird gave the man a dead pan and stupid stare. "Looks like Franky here thinks you're a fine person." the girl laughed from atop the bird's back, her head tilting slightly to better hear the music that she had heard earlier when the dumb bird had sat down.
"You are from the high mountains?" Zenfoid had turned back around. "I have heard about people living but i thought it was just a rumor." his voice trailed off at the end so that he would not insult the women. "I myself hail from the deep woods. I again apologies for scaring you young woman." Zenfoid smile and turned his head so he was facing the other woman, "Where are you from?" Why is it so easy to talk to these two women? he thought to himself then he remembered something. "I feel I am being to formal. Please call me Zenfoid or Zen if my name is to much of a mouth full for you" he gave a low bow like he would if he were home. "May I also inquire your names?"
A smile flitted across Yuukana's face at the mention of rumors about her home. She listened avidly to what the man said, more curious about the world that she'd never seen then anythign else. There was so much inspiration for new songs. "Yuukana, but if that is too complicated please call me Yuune." Her delicate eyebrows plummeted down into a frown as she tried to imagine what living in a forest could be like.
She looked up to Zen, and posed the question on her mind. "What is it like, living in a forest? " Turning to the other woman excitement filled her voice. "Yes please! Do introduce yourself!" There were so many new things to discover that the woman knew not about! Many of those things could be translated into music, and brought back to her sisters in hte mountains.
Zenfoid thought for a moment about the question he was asked, "Well Yuune, it is hard to describe living in the woods. If you want to see the sky you must walk into a small field and laying the grass. Fruit and plants are all around you you can just go out of your home and pick your meal. Animals are also very abundant in the woods so meat is another popular meal. My village made it's own mead, witch is an alcohol made of honey, and wine, made from grapes. Nothing made by the race of humans comes close to the tastes. That is all that can be put into words of normal speaking" at that he smiled. Zenfoid closed his eyes and started to sing in Elvish. some people stopped and listened to him. He did not notice more coins going into the bowl behind him. When he finished, "That is the only way I can describe it to you. In Elvish song...I hopped it helped"
Eyes full of wonder she listened to the image he weaved. It sounded like such a wonderful way to live. Even though the woman couldn't understand the words of his song, the meaning was still clear enough. "It sounds like a wonderful place to live. Full of wonders that I've never seen. Rather in a wintery place, I have needed to learn how to find beauty on even the most barren of places. But, to see the place you describe so would be, truly an amazing thing that could inspire many songs indeed." Already she was planning something new, like the scurryings of animals in the trees and the thrill of the wind weaving trough the trees. Perhaps someday she would visit that place, and compose a song about it. Yuune was rather enchanted by her new acquaintances, both of them.
Sil waved back to the girl, not even looking twice at the stub of an arm, partially to be polite, and partially because it honestly didn't bother him in the least. He watched the girl and bird with an amused look plastered on his face, and let out a hearty, boyish laugh as the Gronk "approved" of him. he reached out and gave the large fowl a pat on the head, and picked up the rock. "Well thank you very much for the gift, Francois, I'll have to return the favor." he said, reaching towards a pouch with both hands, looking as if he was digging for something. "Lets see here... Ah! Here it is! For you, good Sir." He said as he gave a slight bow and with a flourish of his hands, offered.... the same rock. He gave a wink and a grin to the girl, knowing the simple-minded bird would not be able to tell the difference.
Naem smiled. "I'm from a little town, though I think it's gotten bigger by now, somewhere south of here. It didn't have a name when I left, and I'm not entirely sure I would recognize it now. It's been three decades since I left," she told them, shifting to be more comfortable, leaning against the stall behind her. She looked to Zenfoid. "I do like traveling through forest, once I learned what was edible, I didn't have to worry about rations." She looked back to Yuukana. "Mountains also have their bonuses, in the caves that lead to natural treasures, like raw gems and metals, and water-carved caverns." She didn't really want to explain living in a small town, it had been utterly boring.
((BTW: she doesn't know for sure that she's half dragon, just that she's not entirely human. Her father was the dragon, and her mother a one-night stand.))
