I just finished a very stressful day at work after a long stretch of equally hectic days and I just have to say I have noticed a lot of things that just bug me. I'm sure everyone has those pet peeves or just things that make you want to scream and sometimes even hit people in the work place. So what things annoy you at work? Feel free to rant it out!
I work at a gas station and have numerous tasks I must do so I have a number of things that bug me:
- We have one fuel pump but it does happen to have TWO working sides, with nozzles for the customers filling pleasure. So it drives me absolutely bonkers when people will sit and start a line up on the one side, when the other is clearly free for the taking. What makes this worse is some people will roll down windows and complain about the customer who is currently being served at the pump or complain when they finally arrive for their turn. Really is it so hard to drive around, instead of idling wasting more fuel? I hate this in the winter especially.
- Unfortunately I do not have the ability to read minds, no matter how much customers may wish I could. So it is annoying when they won't get out of the car, open the window or signal in any way what they want. So I'm left guessing if it's a fill or $20 fuel. The worst part is when people look at me like I'm stupid, it's like hello I cannot serve you what you want if you don't tell me. Today I waited 15 minute with the nozzle ready for this lady to finally open the door and ask for a fill. It wasn't like she didn't see me, she kept glancing in the mirror as she proceeded to make 3 phone calls and yell at her kids numerous times.
- We have a sign with our hours posted in clear view so customers know when we open and when we close. for example when it says we close at 8pm it means that after that time we are not going to serve you because we are closed. when the lights are off, including the open sign it should be a clear indication we aren't open for business, and yet people will still come in or stop and try and fill their cars. It makes me want to yell when people try and argue for us to reopen the till or turn on the pumps for them. We value our customers but that doesn't mean special treatment. Closed means closed.
- It's a noisy place when our drivers are in between loads or just when they are chilling out gossiping. Actually it's just plain noisy, by a highway and all. So sometimes it's hard to hear people talking, especially when they mumble. It is ridiculous when customers come in mumbling what they want and then looking at us like we are idiots for not understanding. Please speak up.
- Regular customers are pretty cool, because you can usually tell what they want and get it done quickly and sometimes small talk with them. But it bugs me when people come in every day asking for $5 of fuel and always want their oil checked. Honestly I'm sure if your oil was fin yesterday or even sometimes a few hours earlier, it will be fine now. If you're that worried go to a lube and get them to check it.

A lot of my income comes from watching kids. And kids, wonderfully enough, are always good-- even when they puke on you, you can't really fault them for it. There's just so much cuteness going on. Plus when they hug you, sometimes they can only reach your legs. Who doesn't like having a tiny person hug her legs?
Parents, on the other hand, are sometimes woefully inconsiderate and just plain emptyheaded.
Dislikes:
1. I show up at 7.30 in the morning and my employer announces, "Oh! I forgot. I have a friend who really needs a babysitter today for an appointment. She has three kids-- they're coming around 10, is that okay?"
Really, what can I say to that? I don't mind at all so long as I'm given advanced notice.
2. Same for when the same employer, during the summer, announces on Friday that the kids will be gone for the next two weeks, "And we won't need you. You get a break!" Actually, I get hundreds of dollars fewer with which to pay for school next semester-- it's too late to schedule other work to make up for that-- and if you'd told me a few months ago I might have planned a vacation. Gar.
3. "By the way, I think she's sick. She might be cranky today." No, she wasn't just sick. I'm pretty sure she had the plague. At least, that's what it felt like I had 4 days later.
4. Picking up and dropping off the kids from everywhere-possible, without any extra pay for gas costs. Also, when they begin having you watch their second child ("She's off from school.") without increased pay.
Actually, this is all the same employer.
Most of the parents for whom I sit are unspeakably angelic, and I love them. :)

Ok, I'm a teacher so here goes....
Parents who can't understand that their kid is just as mean, lazy and self centered as the kid they are complaining about.
Governments constantly changing their minds about what children need to be taught.
Governments who think that all of societies problems can be fixed at school e.g. dog bites, P addiction, binge drinking, road safety, pollution, credit card debt....
Parents who still carry their kids bag into school when the child is 12
Parents who make excuses for their kid being an arrogant self centered brat who never has to face any consequences.
Enthusiastic Principals who haven't been in the classroom for 12 years and have a really cool idea...
Children who can't clean themselves at the toilet properly at 6 and smell of poo all day (not the special needs kids, just the ones who's parents don't teach them to be clean....)
Consultants who are only concerned about their subject and can't understand why you don't do maths or whatever for 1 and a half hours every day and spend your entire school budget on their products.
That will do, thanks for the chance to rant!

Yes!
Also, administrators who develop an "us vs. them" mentality with regard to teachers. And parents. And everyone else.
People who become administrators because they weren't good at/ didn't like teaching very much. What??

@colorsbold I can honestly see how that's annoying because I too used to babysit a lot. Parents can get a bit annoying sometimes especially when they don't seem to see what might not work for you even if it will work for them.
@carzeemumbear From a students point of view I am also bothered by some of those things, especially your points on the Government changing their minds about the curriculum and thinking everything can be solved by the school system. And you're very welcome, everyone needs a chance to blow off some steam from work.

At the moment I don't really have a solid job. I'm a freelancer and I work on contract at different businesses for a couple of months at a time.
The place I'm at right now wasn't really prepared to have another person come in and start working, thought that wasn't their fault (large amount of people had to laid off). So I work in a cubicle that, up until I started working there, was used as storage for office supplies. Which means from time to time I have people coming in looking for folders, pens, paper clips etc while I'm working. Kind of annoying, but I don't mind it too much really. The computer I work with is super slow and has no power to it. I often have to use photoshop to edit images and do batch files and that often ends in the computer freezing and sometimes even crashing. Oh and my chair is really uncomfortable >.>
But hey, the pay is good.

I work at a tattoo shop. I swear, some people are just so ridiculous.
1. Every single day I get multiple calls asking me to price things over the phone. Simple answer, if I can't see it...I can't price it. I don't care if it's the size of a quarter or a fist or your entire back, I can't price it over the phone. Would you like us to tattoo you over the phone as well?
2. I understand that no one wants to wait around all night, but I'm not going to harass the artists to rush through their tattoos to get to you. Do you want him to rush through yours and give you mediocre work? No? Then sit down and wait just like everyone else. A tattoo is not an in and out sort of deal.
3. Kids. I love kids, I have a 2 1/2 year old myself. However, they do not belong in a tattoo shop for long periods of time. Kids are kids, they want to make noise and run around. I don't blame them, but the artists need to concentrate. I hate when families with like 5 kids come in and both of the parents want tattoos. I get how hard it is to get anyone to watch them, but why can't one of you take them to a playground or the mall until the other is finished? That's what I did when my daughter's dad was getting tattooed and I work there.
4. People asking what our shop minimum is. Honestly, it's not at all relevant. It costs $40 just to set up, so that's our minimum, but you can't get much of anything for that. Tattoos aren't cheap, as they're a convenience item that is on your body for the rest of your life. (if it's done right) I just can't stand how cheap people are when it comes to something so permanent. Look through the artists work, don't just price shop. I understand not having money, but you don't NEED a tattoo. Saving up the amount to get what you really want is worth it.
I could go on forever really...so I'll stop now.

I work education in a museum. School Program workshops.
I HATE when teachers just stand there idly as their hellish students eat and throw sand. Talk over us, give us purposely STUPID answers to simple questions. "What changes can you observe on the Earth?" "Indigestion" .. Oh and did I mention these students are in the EIGHTH GRADE?!
I love my job, I hate my students.

I don't exactly have an actual job, but I am a student employee at Job Corps, so that does account for something I suppose.
But I've been going to school at Job Corps for two months now, and I've been SO frustrated by how people act, students AND staff.
I had to fill out a rec sheet to get hours in the rec done, and go to different meetings and whatnot. And whenever I'd ask a staff member who I'd expect would be able to give me the correct answer, they would say that they didn't know, and would send me to a different person. This would go on for a long time before I would finally get the correct answer for something. It's rather obnoxious that the staff there aren't very well connected like you would expect in a school.
There are tons of obnoxious people there who think that they are so much more superior than others. It's just like high school all over again, but with older people. There is one person in my class who keeps being a bitch to just about everyone, even her teachers. I know that I'm going to have to deal with a lot of frustrating people in the workplace, but this girl is really stubborn and thinks that SHE is in charge more or less. Being a bitch to others does not and will not make you little miss popular.
Also in my dorm we have lots of girls who are really messy and like to make a huge mess in the bathroom. And the things that they do are VERY disgusting. Those of which I will not mention due to the fact that I don't want to totally gross out others. I mean, come on ladies, you are all over 16 and older, I'd expect 'em to know how to clean up after themselves.

I work at a fast food place right now. There's not much that bothers me aside from people not keeping things organized. It also bothers me that the store manager doesn't know how to order things from the distribution center so half the time we do not have the food or supplies that we need. Part of that is her allowing people to be disorganized. I like to be able to know where things are and just go grab something rather than searching for it and wasting time.
Sometimes the customers annoy me. People try to get free food all of the time and they don't get that we're not just going to give them something then they get mad over it. It's like every other business, if you want something then buy it.
