I see, but you got all the big medieval castles and greenery!
---------- Post added 07-29-2012 at 04:21 PM ----------
...And tartan kilts and bagpipes, you can't forget the tartan kilts and bagpipes!

Yeaaah! Eilean Donan Castle is my favourite out of all of them. If you've ever seen the film Highlander, it's the castle used in that film.
Kilts are the greatest thing ever! You mean bagpipes?

I see, I'll be sure to visit it even if I did not see the film.

For now I will start with New Scotland (Nova Scotia) though, it's nearer and I don't need a passport :3!

The oldest buildings we got here in Canada are pretty much only forts and houses.
This one is Fort Chambly, it's an old fort renovated into a museum and it's kinda close to my city:

It is, it's full of artefacts like an old canon and got quite a few portraits and reproductions of people and everyday lives of that time.

That's what Eilean Donan is like! My favourite room was the kitchen. :') There's also like actual dresses of the time and things too.

That's cool :3!
I don't remember if the fort had real clothings of the time but it had wax figures wearing clothes like those of the time put in various poses showing what they did.

Aw, well, more reason to go there one day!
I love genealogy, too. I even have a (probably not so dependable and not completed) scrap of my grandma's family tree going back to the very first citizens of Montreal :'3. I should really get to it and put it together to form my own family tree...
From Wiki:
Quote:
Adrienne was born in 1626 in Corbeny, Picardy, France, a daughter of Antoine Du Vivier and Catherine Journe.
In 1646, in St. Bartholemi, Paris, at the age of twenty, she married a soldier Augustin Hébert (1623 – 23 November 1653) who had just returned from Canada.[3] He was a son of Guillaume Hébert and Marguerite Meunier of Caen, Normandy.
|
My ancestor:
Quote:
|
Leger Hébert (19 April 1650 Montreal – 28 April 1719) St. Francois-du-Lac, Canada). Married Marguerite Gamelin (b. 1664), by whom he had 13 children, at least seven of whom survived childhood. Leger's direct line continues to this day (2011).
|
We're not from the direct line anymore, though :c...

Yeah, my grandpa was adopted and I will never know my full roots, though I AM attached to the Daignaut family by adoption through him...

To be honest, I could probably only get to my great granny on my mum's side of the family haha. There are some people in my family that I don't even know where they come from. As in, what side of the family they're from.

I only really know who my direct family is, aka all my first cousins, my uncles and aunts, my parents and my grandparents from my mother's side as my paternal ones were dead before I was born. I know a few of my little cousins names but not that much as I don't see said first cousins nearly at all anymore, so... ^^'...

All my actual grandparents are dead now, but my mum's granny is still kicking about. My dad's dad I think died before I was born, then his mum when I was around one. When I was five my mum's mum died and then when I was either thirteen or fourteen (I think fourteen) her dad died. I have a few second cousins I don't speak to, and all my first cousins are under ten.
