So, a few days ago my mom called me immature and it made me wonder... what IS mature? What makes someone mature or immature?
Personally, I think someone who is mature would be honorable and respectful.
What about you?

I've always thought maturity was something that was open to personal interpretation, and being honourable and respectful is only one part of it (though a large part, in my opinion). Maturity and what makes them mature is mostly different for everyone. There are also different ways in which people can be mature.
My sister, for example, has really mature in that she's very independent and strong willed, but very immature in the way she handles herself. At only sixteen she thinks she's ready to live on her own but she still isn't responsible enough to take care of herself completely.
Then there's me, where I can hold down a job, be responsible for myself and my surroundings while still finding time to do my schooling. However, I love video games and cartoons and I act like a complete doofus most of the time.
So yeah, in my opinion, maturity is something that's really hard to properly quantify. People may be mature in one way but completely immature in another.
...heh. Well that was longer than I thought it would be XD

I think that mature people know how to be responsible. And I also think that people who say out loud "I'm mature now, I do what I want" or "I'm not watching cartoons (or dong anything that's meant for kids) because I'm not a kid anymore" are not really mature, they are usually immature people who just want to act mature. Usually I heard this kind of statements at preteens or teens.
It's not a rule, but it certainly has a lot of truth to it.

I think "mature" people hold the elevator when they see someone else coming.
I'm immature, I press that thing faster than Takeru Kobayashi with a plate full of hot dogs.
Kidding x:
Uh, I guess maturity really depends on the person you are. Things you consider mature and things you don't.
To simplify my two cents in a way. I think being polite and having manners, taking responsibility is being mature.

Being able to make wise decisions, knowing that others deserve respect, achieving the goal of taking responsabilities no one could handle, and doing your best to make it right, and knowing when is the right time to express your opinion.
That's what I see as maturity.

Whatever it is, don't listen to your parents if they say you're immature. They're your parents, that's just what they do.
