I'm getting another tattoo as soon as I find an artist. I just finished the colours and finalized the design so I just need to find an artist since the person who did my other one isn't working around here any more.

Ooh, Mystic. What are you getting?

This is my largest tattoo. Sorry for the terrible picture! It covers most of the left side of my left thigh.

I'm also designing another tattoo from myself written in Tengwar. It's the Sindarin translation of "Not all those who wander are lost". The phrase has a lot of meaning to me and it's a phrase that I think I'd like to keep with me for the rest of my life.

Also, the question asked. I think some tattoos can be unprofessional and ugly.. People who just run out and get a tattoo because they can seem reckless and silly to me. Do they not know this shit is with you forever? D: I watched a friend of mine get a DRIPPING PENIS on her arm. Classy.

Well guys, one of my friends is having a Tattoo Birthday party. (Where he gathers a bunch of friends to come with him to a tattoo parlor and if he has enough people get something, his tattoo will be free). So I guess this is a good time as any to get over my fear of tattoos. :D

I'm planning to get my Star Wars tattoo like this. But I have a little tummy problem. It's not so much fat, just not rock hard abs. So I have to work out like crazy for the next few weeks so I can show off my tattoo when I get it.

That is going to hurt like hell.

I got mine done last Saturday and it hurt...A lot. When the guy began the shading I was cussing and clenching my teeth like crazy. I even scared my boyfriend with the faces I made. XD
This is it. For the ones who don't really see it: it's a horse head.

I personally think like most of you guys here, that tattoos are a proper form of art and that it has to be done properly. Where I did my tattoo they normally talk to the customers and draw some things up for them, to get the perfect design. I was lucky that my design was good enough to work with and have some meaning to it for me.
Which is the second thing I think a tattoo should have. Sure you can slap pretty pictures on your body, but it is better to have it done with more meaning behind it than: it looks pretty.

HIM's thinking about getting a dragon or a Kuroshitsuji tattoo for the next tattoo. Probibly a Kuroshitsuji tattoo for the 21st and dragon when I either pass the driving test or for when I'm feeling compleatly better.

I love tattoos.. Have one, on my left arm of a devlish heart. I have plans for one of the angelic version of the heart for my left arm..
They're symbolic for like, being good is my right hand man, but everyone succumbs to their demons sometimes..
I also have plans for a Sol/Luna design that I've drawn, probably for between my shoulders.

I dislike tramp stamps, and do not think they are tasteful at all.

I also think that tattoos should be perfectly acceptable in most situations as long as they aren't ridiculous, like on your face or something. That to me, is unprofessional. But other than face/neck tattoos (not including back of neck/those cute little symbols people like to get behind their ears, those are small and/or not too noticeable). And as long as the tattoos (on arms, shoulders, et cetera) are not obscene or could be interpreted as offensive, I don't believe they should have to be concealed at work.

The only head tattoo I've seen that I've thought that's really good is the biomechanical tattoos because it's had a hell of alot of work put into it.

My next one is probably going to be a lighthouse in stormy weather on a few rocks, with waves crashing all over and an anchor at the bottom of the piece.
Mainly focused on my boyfriend, who is a sailor. But can also be used to tell family and friends that I will be there to guide them in dark hours and their anchor if they need stability.

I honestly have to say tattoos are one of the biggest wastes of money you can invest in. Besides illegal drugs and tobacco, I think this is up there. My mom always told me that writing on yourself with a marker or pen is bad for your skin, and the inks can seep into your bloodstream or something like that. That scared the hell out of me, so I stayed away. I'm still not sure if she's correct or just trying to make me pee myself, but she's a nurse, so I'm not taking any chanced xD

Anyways, tattoos are basically engraving ink into your body. Well I guess everyone knows that, but back to the whole marker and pen inkt thing, I'm assuming this is far worse than that.

This is just my opinion... I may try and find an article behind the truth of the marker and pen ink tales...

I've never, ever heard of anyone having a toxic reaction to a tattoo.. A properly done one, at least. I've heard that skin can allergically react to certain inks if you're allergic to particular metals... But otherwise tattoos are completely safe, as long as you take good care of them. They CAN become infected if you don't wash them and take correct care of the tattoos.

Tattoo ink is designed to be safe and non-toxic. It wouldn't be legal to tattoo if the ink wasn't safe.

Also, tattooing has been done culturally for thousands of years - ancient cultures used to use naturally-produced dyes and bone-needles that they tapped into peoples' skin, put dye in the holes, and then it healed into a tattoo. Certain cultures embraced tattoos as honored signs of maturity, courage, manliness, and other such things within tribes.

I daresay, not a waste of time dear FlyerBro: - As long as they're meaningful.

Also, HIM_ROCK: I LOVE biomech. My tattoo artist, Micah, he specializes in it. It's his current forte, haha.

Well yes, but I don't like them in general xD I had forgot about the non-toxic ink until I read an article on it last night, so I was about to edit that post xD

Well to make my opinion clear: I think they're pointless.

In fact, the oldest tattooed subject dates back to 3300B.C, and the man they found had 57 tattoos.

And hey, if something means something to you, and you wish to carry it for the rest of your life, a tattoo would be a good way to symbolize it. Hence why so many people get their children's names tattooed on them, or things symbolizing their children. I mean, even if your child dies before you, you're carrying something symbolic of them with you, on your body, at all times, for the rest of your days.

I guess that's just one example of how a tattoo wouldn't be pointless xD

Yes, I know about it being a symbol, but you're marking your body for the rest of your life, and to some people it can send the wrong message. I've known a few adults who are real kind with tattoos, but when they meat someone new sometimes that person will assume that they think they're "Mr. Tough Guy" because of the tattoo, when they're an average joe.

Yay, stereotyping.
Not really, though.

It's like, tattoos are for ruffians, guys who talk in a certain tone of voice are gay, women who have short hair are dykes, if you wear short skirts and low cut shirts you're a whore, et cetera. All unnecessary and unfair assumptions about people. It seems like the hype around tattoos being "bad" is getting less and less extreme though.

I'm glad that in the industry that I plan to take part in for the rest of my life, the cooking industry, generally accepts tattoos and body art. A lot of chefs are all tatted up, and I'm happy that I'll be able to get the ink that means something to me and generally be able to let it be exposed, without being berated for the art upon my skin.

More "professional" businessy situations I guess, aren't too into it still.. But I dunno, I think things will change as time passes.

Last I heard my cousin was planning on have a biomech tattoo but he might have changed his mind on it and gone for V8 engine mechanics insted. He deffinitly wasn't going to do that one himself.

Getting inked is far more socially acceptable than getting a scarification tattoo, with the exception of some tibes where scarification tattoos are seen as making a woman more beautiful.

I was going to have one done but my mummeh said why not just get inked insted because it's going to heal faster, plus I showed her pictures of what they do for scarification. We didn't even get on to the subject of branding before she came out with just get an ink tattoo.

Tattoos, with the exception of tribes, were for sailors and prostitutes.

I'm not saying this will ever happen, but if I ever were to get a tattoo... I'd say it would probably have to be of some sort of insect. I don't know why, I just think it would look cool. Like a centipede or something :D

So, you say that tattoo's are a waste of money and time. That they make the human body ugly, but if you'd get one in theory, it would be a bug that has no meaning or special purpose to you?

Yes. Exactly my point... which I don't have. But like I said, I don't plan on getting a tattoo, but if I did, it'd be pointless and a centipede. A long realistic centipede that wraps around my right arm.

Hmm...maybe a little butterfly on my lower back? And tribal tattoos are always in.

Truthfully, I think it would be awesome to get a huge colorful dragon one that winds around my entire body. I'd never do it though. With how much detail I'd like it to have, it would cost way too much. Plus, I think it would be a bit too extravagant. >.<

A friend once told me that... She's also convinced that you can get lead poisoning from pencils.

TECHNICALLY the marker and pen ink thing is true. However, writing on your skin will NOT harm you at all. That's an urban legend. You can only get ink poisoning if you ingest ink or if it gets into your bloodstream. Your skin won't absorb any ink if you draw on yourself.

Now if you slice your arm open then draw flowers all over the cut with a sharpie...you might get ink poisoning. But don't do that, k? .___.

@Yaks and Bucket: I'm getting a phoenix either on my ankle or on my side. I'm still debating on placement. It's really detailed to I may go for the side since it needs to be pretty big. I'm just kind of afraid of getting something big because it would, be hard to cover up if I needed to but I love the design so much though. I added way too much detail on it though so I may just do a smaller not so detailed version of it.
