I was thinking a fantasy place with a lot of kingdoms and mythical creatures, maybe. Unless we're trying to avoid anything Harry Potter like the plague XD

Dungeon Punk would be.. Hmmm.. In anime, if you know then, you could call One Piece / Fairy Tail Dungeon Punk although that's mostly my personal perspective, in gaming you could call quite a few of the Final Fantasy games Dungeon Punk as well, if not indeed all of them.

It's similar to steampunk, at least roughly in era. But not so much about clockworks, gears and steam engines. Instead the driving force of early technology is Magic. Ranging from simple things like guns firing magic-based ammo, or fire crystals/spirits being the core for an early form of transport like trains or cars.

The fantasy elements can be as broad or as thin as we like, I dont mind you bringing up something you truly love, so long as the RP itself is enjoyable for both sides (although I think we'll hold on the boggarts and dementors.. xD)

And magic can be as common or rare as we like, or there could be varying levels of rarity and power as people who use it progress (our characters are likely to have rare or powerful magic potential, which would make their training as Court Wizards make sense).

Dungeon Punk is my favorite genre because it allows a great deal of freedom to express ideas. We're even allowed to dip into Sci Fi and Modern elements if we desire since it gives us such a broad range to work with.

Hm, I guess if I were to delve more into how rare magic is...
Maybe everyone can use it, but it's very limited with most people. Say the below-average person, who was never taught how to use magic, might have little bursts of it when they're angry or upset, but they're unable to call upon it at will or do anything predictable with it. Average people, who were maybe taught by their parents or simply read about it, can do small magic, like making a small flame, or making a book float. Above average people can have a greater grasp of magic, and are more likely to push their boundaries and see just what they can do. They can do greater things, like crafting potions for a profession, or enchanting armor and weapons. Then there are people like our characters, that are trained all their lives in magic. They can do things like summon beasts, healing, combat, control of elements, etc. The older they get, the greater their power is, and the more they learn. So, say the oldest of these is like...200 years old because they have enough power to stay alive for longer than the average person. They can summon dragons or something...overpowered, due to their age and diligent training xD

Also, dungeon punk makes more sense to me now that you brought up Final Fantasy. I could go for that.

LoL you pick up quickly, that's a reasonably fair outlook for magic. I hope you don't mind me using anime style pics for characters though, that's about the vast majority of my library xD

So to recap.

We have two students of magic being trained to become members of the council to their respective kingdom/s(or queendom/s / empire/s) living their lives in seclusion while they are trained, their kingdoms are at odds, perhaps even on the verge of war. By some twist of fate, they are secluded just close enough that the two end up crossing paths.

The world itself has magic that scales based on how much it has been integrated int some-one's life, further enhanced by modifiers such as personal emotion, weapons, or other forms of mediums to help focus the magic, or provide magic in some cases.

We might include further DPunk elements if it helps the plot.

As for the character in question, he's going to have two kinds of magic, the one he uses openly and a secret kind that he's not allowed to (pfft who am I kidding? he's totally gonna have to use it! for plot!)
Probably be a neutral personality, not too broody but not too happy either, secretly very angry but he keeps a lid on that. Seclusion hasn't left him very chipper, lol.

The kingdom he's from is probably the least pleasant of the two unless you wanted to claim that, XD concentrated on military strength and keeping a superior standing to their neighbors who have so far been placative, but now things are getting pretty bad with your girl's kingdom, since they're standing up to his people.

At least that's what's in my head so far.

Oh, he's very Soul-Eatery xD I'm sketching my character. She's very...original Final Fantasy...-ish. Like inspired by Final Fantasy 7/8 :P she's all whimsical and...sort of on the natural-looking side? I'm not sure how to phrase that. Final Fantasy has some crazy hair colors, outfits, and gravity defying hair, but they aren't very out-there for their world, I guess? XD

Her magic is going to focus on healing, enchanting, and protection. She has some side magic, like creating wings to move around easier, 'cause she has bad ankles or...something XD

All well and good, if you understood the pretext behind me saying it. Besides the fact that I'm not afraid to tell people I'm disappointed by them, if they don't like me being blunt; then that's too bad. I'm sick of being disappointed after having my hopes up.

Making a first post and then having the person I intended to rp with miraculously vanish for an extended period before we've even begun the rp is very disappointing and I don't appreciate people doing that to me. I wasted my time writing something that isn't going to be read.

And now there is another empty thread on the site that has died after the first post, not even the first reply. I'm sure you recall me mentioning I was disappointed at how quickly our own RP died so long ago.

Down girl! I wasn't actually chiding you. I admire how frank you tend to be. I've always preferred things to be a a bit less...sugar coated.

That being said, I wasn't the one who caused the death of our last joint venture, so here's to hoping that you don't plan on chasing me off just yet. ;)

To be honest for the last couple of months I've had new players fail me one by one, so while I am craving mass Effect, I'd rather wait until I know you're an established RPer who will actually stick around and not vanish all of a sudden. No offense meant dear, but I've just been horribly disappointed too many times now :(

Its cool, I plan on staying on the site. I also rp on Gaia and I just felt that I needed a change for a bit.
